Someone explain to me why the hell do soldiers wear shades?

they obstruct your vision, make everything seem blacker, therefore making spotting 1000% harder.
>>
You know what else obstructs your vision? The fucking sun.
>>
>>29746298
man that was a hard thread
>>
>>29746292

Shrapnel is hard, eyes are squishy.

If your eyes get squished by hard things then you can't do soldier things.
>>
Because shrapnel in your eye sucks
Also if you were to ever go outside of Mom's basement you would see this big bright thing in the sky we call the "Sun"
>>
>>29746298
>>29746303
So what if it's sunny? someone would rather see 75% of his viewport than 10%
>>
>>29746317
Have you ever worn sunglasses??
>>
>>29746292

The ME is sunny and has many naturally reflective surfaces.

Also because of bitch niggas who cant maintain eye contact and want to act hard. I make people take them off before doing anything business related.

>all those soft, squirming eyes on people with giant beards and sleeve tats

I nominate this for the most autistic thread on /k/
>>

I think this is legitimately the dumbest post I've seen on this forum
>>
OP is confined for never having an outdoor job in his life.

Boat captain here. Not exactly analogous to a combat soldier, and I'm not trying to say that I am. But my job entails (among other shit) sitting in a wheelhouse trying to read day shapes of a other boats that can be miles away. And navigation markers. And landmarks. Basically, I gotta look at a bunch of small shit far away all the damn time.

Good sunglasses are part of my essential kit. Without them, you lose a ton of detail on a sunny day while you squint because the earth is I've giant reflective asshole. If it's raining and I'm using a tug that requires me to use the outside controls, I can't not have something protecting my eyes from the elements. Even when it's cloudy and raining I need my sunglasses to see (if it's dark out in that scenario I bring the same eye pro I use for indoor shooting).

I couldn't imagine doing my job without them. And I wouldn't think of working in the sandy desserts of Buttfuckganistan being shot at without something shielding my eyes from shrapnel, sand, and the sun. It's a non-starter idea.

I'm not sure where you get this idea that shades are the same thing is blinders, but it's wrong. Your criticism simply fails to hold water, OP.

Unless you chose to wear these in the middle of the fucking night or in a dark room like an autistic twat or a 70's action hero, you'll see fine.

Also visors make great eye protection against debris and ballistic objects.
>>
>>29746572
Yes. Good sunglasses are more than just tinted glass.
>>
>>29746630
I agree eye pro is vital, but what about the skull wearing them when you are face blasted with buckshot? If those Guardians include a repulsor field sign me up!
>>
>>29746706
>middle of the fucking night
I've taken to wearing polarized glasses at night when I'm driving. I can actually see the road better, and it cuts down on a helluva lot of glare from oncoming headlights.

Your mileage may vary.
>>
>>29746737
At least you'll still have pretty eyes for your closed casket funeral.
>>
>>29746292
Because ESS goggles aren't a welding helmet.
>>
>>29746737
I think the idea behind it is that your eyes are much more vulnerable than the rest of your face, so while your face might get a little fucked up, at least you'll still be able to see properly.
>>
>>29746754
True. Mama said I always had pretty eyes.

>>
>>29746737

So you genuinely don't mind having dust, dirt, smoke, and debris blasting into your eyes? You can just shrug that off and still see better than the guy next to you who... Didn't have that happen to him?

I swear, 4 Chan as a whole is getting dumber, this board included.
>>
>>29746737
If you get hit in the face with buckshot, gg, you're dead.

If you get hit in the face with dirt and rocks from an ID blast without your eye pro on, you lose your eyesight

Just ask my good buddy who decided to dismount and ground guide our vehicle without his eye pro just one time. We hit a pressure plate, he lost one eye, and the other had to be taken out, cleaned, and popped back in by a chick doctor that he eventually married.

Wear your eyepro.
>>
>>29746781
Look, it's obviously not going to save you in 100% of situations, but MAYBE if you're lucky it'll save your eyes. Sort of like a ballistic mask, most calibers will fuck you up or leave you horribly injured, but MAYBE it'll save your life or reduce your injuries in certain situations.
>>
>>29746292

>wearing eye pro while using guns.

I was making a joke as I read the ad where they shot it at 10 meters with a 12ga. I then envisioned someone wearing them while being shot with said 12ga. I wear eyepro while shooting, my daily glasses are ANSI rated.

>>29746835
You still don't get the point. If you are shot in the face with buckshot you are almost guaranteed dead at a range of 10 meters.
>>
>>29746888
Yes, I'm well aware of that, I'm not arguing that, I'm just saying that this would be better than nothing because in SOME situations it might save you from permanent eye damage

Because the sun in the desert sucks donkey dildos. Dust, dirt, and shrapnel in your eyes suck. They arent that fucking hard to see through either. They are usually just polarized versions of ballistic eye protection.

Also sunlight can fuck up your vision anyway. UV and what not.

This guy knows what's up.

I'm a racing crew chief, and shades are an essential part of my kit too. I spent much of my time up on top of the trailer looking across a mile-wide track with binoculars, and it's often bright as hell, but they're also fine to see with when under our awning or on overcast days. It's also worth pointing out that the drivers wear dark tinted visors while driving and don't have any trouble with those.

>>29746861
Haha, so the question is whether Miller or Lincoln would be the operator choice.

That's not even buckshot genius, it's just shot. And the point is to demonstrate that it can take a lot more abuse than it would reasonably be expected to, it's not meant to imply that they somehow save your life from a close-range shotgun blast.

I dont think people who wear eye pro, especially that guardian pair, wears them with the goal of protecting themselves from getting shot in the face.
Debris, shrapnel, brass, random ricochet, etc, pretty sure that's what they're going for.

Also, high tech earpro with small HUD on battlefield data, when?

The sun is brighter in the desert. In fact, practically every protective item a soldier has is to adapt to harsher desert conditions. Earpro only came into use in the middle east because the dudes in the mosque towers yell really loud and can burst your eardrums
>>
>>29747688
You're bullshitting.

Ear pro is for big guns and shit ranges too. Not for allahusnackbar towers.
>>
Its eyepro, its required at all times anyway.

Having it for day ops makes seeing / shooting easier and makes the sun hella dim. And no if doesn't make anything too dark like you think. We carry a second set of eyepro either a whole set or just clear lenses for might ops.

I am infantry, I wear eyepro almost all the damn time while working and deployed.
>>
>>29747823
As a EASed pog fueler, I agree. They're handy in all environments; no matter the MOS. Shit will always find a way into your eyes. Best to cover up.
>>
>>29747084
>Buckshot to the head (which is where my face resides at least) I an almost certain kill shot.
No it is not. There is many places in face that can be penetrated without inflicting life treating wounds. Also buckshot will struggle to penetrate such vital part as spine. Surviving face wounds is common thing.
>>
OP, I found your sunglasses for you
>>
>>29747644

I like tinted shades for rain and snow.

Also because it's like having a filter for the occasional depression. Sepia is way better when it's overcast.

>>
>>29746292
Modern polarized glasses don't really make things significantly darker, they just give your vision an odd hue. It's not like the tint of car windows where you can barely see through. Try on a pair of high-end sunglasses if you want to know what I mean.
