Not sure if there was a thread about this. What's your thoughts of Japan's X-2? USA won't sell them an F22 so they built their own stealth ninja

This is a 5th generation stealth fighter jet. It's a replacement for the F2, an F16 variant, it has twin engines, it's almost a guarantee that it will be cheaper than the F35 and F22
>>
>>29736356
Our military should buy some and publicly use them as target practice
>>
>>29736356
Hey, if they built this anything like the old Zero's, they will put a huge fuel tank and massive cargo bay to fill with explosives, so they can stealthily Kamikaze aircraft carriers.

Also, at the speed they are going, some of the aircraft may actually puncture multiple decks.
>>
>>29736356
Without knowing anything about it, the japs are some competently industrious sons a bitches. Probably could swat chicom 5th gens out of the air.
>>
>>29736356

The US should join the project and jointly develop an F-15 replacement to be used by both countries. The F-15 Eagle is too old. A replacement is badly needed.

Holy shit, stop.
The Mitsubishi X2 is a demonstration test bed for the technologies that will eventually be used in their stealth fighter.
It is not a stealth fighter.

the f-22 & f-35 already exist..
>>
http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/everything-we-know-about-the-x-2-the-future-of-japanes-1755710322

It will most likely be able to launch from a carrier too. Japan says the plane will be exported as well. I could see this being a popular product for our allies around the world. Maybe USA should have talks
>>
>>29736451

The F-22 is out of production and the F-35 is not an air superiority fighter. Now before y'all start posting your fancy bingo grids I don't have any particular problem with the F-35. But the F-15/F-22 needs a replacement also. The USA could partner with Japan on this project and then maybe get a new air superiority jet in service in 2030.
>>
>>29736451

This might be able to down an F35 when all is said and done in a close engagement. Japan will also learn a lot from the F35 technology before the product is ready as well since they're confirmed operators. Did I mention also way cheaper?

Canada would love this plane
>>
>>29736485
This won't be coming out any sooner than the US's F/A-XX program
>>
>>29736485

>Implying that Canada will ever buy new jets
>Implying epic marijuana dude isn't going to disband the canada air force on the grounds that the jet noise is triggering for refugees
>>
>>29736451

The F22 is sold out and it's only available to USA.

The production version of the X-2 would be available to Canada , Australia, Jordan , Saudi Arabia , ext and it's geared towards Air Superiority.

No sense in making it as versatile as the F35 , that job is already filled
>>
>>29736514

Boeing is actually trying to sell them Advanced Super Hornets because they undercut the F35 in price
>>
>>29736427
Fucking this. It's not even a prototype for fuck's sake. It's a tech demonstrator.
>>
>>29736401
Totes, and with the build quality inherent, it will be a good spanking fighter.

Boeing is actually trying to sell them Advanced Super Hornets because they undercut the F35 in price. Canada Millitary is poor
>>
>>29736547
Citation needed on the Advanced Super Hornet being cheaper than the F-35A.
>>
>>29736582
>>29736547
I doubt the advanced super hornet will be much under the F-35 cost, and it isn't stealth nor does it have all the advanced electronics, ALIS, whatever

I don't think they will back out of the F-35 deal, liberal voters are cucks, they don't need to fullfill campaign promises.
>>
>>29736534

The X-2 is going to be more expensive than the F-22 if Japanese plane prices hold up.

You really think the Canadians and Aussies have the money to buy a plane that's more expensive than F-22 if they already bitch about F-35 prices?
>>
>>29736514
>Implying Canada needs a serious military, especially air-force, in any event.
The only people positioned to attack them (other than the USA) are such a noteworthy threat that the USA would have to come in and save them anyway. (or such a joke that a literal coastguard ship could do away with them.)
>>
>>29736356
Gotta admit, that plane looks pretty slick. I'd fuck that plane... I ain't even mad.
>>
>>29736780

I actually agree so let's dispense with the fantasy of Canada actually buying new jets.

No, it's likely replacing the F-15J.

>it has twin engines
Yes

>it's almost a guarantee that it will be cheaper than the F35 and F22
Do you know nothing about Japanese procurement? Their domestic aircraft tend to be absurdly expensive due to short production runs and an insistence on domestic manufacturing. You're going to be lucky if it's even close to the unit price of the F-22.

It might actually end up being more expensive than both planes combined. Before the F-22, the F-2 Japanese fighter was the world's most expensive fighter jet.
>>
>>29739074
>Before the F-22, the F-2 Japanese fighter was the world's most expensive fighter jet.

How? Wasn't the F-2 just a modified F-16?
>>
>>29739265
Becuase small production runs means higher cost per unit. Kind of odd coming from a country that practically invented just in time large scale manufacturing but that's how it is when you want to go your own way.
>>
>>29739265
A bit more than that
>New wing planform
>AESA radar
>shit ton of composites
>major structural changes

Of course, the big problem was that it had an absurdly low production run and Japan had to create a lot of the infrastructure to develop the design in the first place.
>>
Now they need to develop Itano Circus
>>
>>29739074
This, the Japanese economy is a black hole system. For the F-2 they insisted on producing it all in-house too. Dat sexy marine camo though.

I live right to the Gifu JASDF airbase so I'm hoping to catch it flying sometime. I already get to see Phantoms every day, it's pretty glorious. They're really running those airframes into the ground in terms of flight hours.
>>
>>29739416

Gotta be ready for China, after all.
>>
>>29736356
>This is a 5th generation stealth fighter jet.
It's a tiny cuck'd island nation's first attempt at an indigenous V/LO airframe and the aviation suite required to support such doctrine.

The F-22 is a 5th generation stealth fighter, the X-2 is a prototype and nothing more.
>>
>>29736483
>the F-35 is not an air superiority fighter.
kek, please, enlighten the rest of us.
>>
>>29736427
>>29736550
But will it go into production? Seems like if they put in the effort it could become a replacement for their F-16
>>
>>29739847
no
>>
>>29739760
Even as a tech demo, the X-2 is already better than Chinko ripoff jet and Russia meme Paki Jet.

It's interesting. Knowledge wise, I find them to be more credible than China, they already produced fighter locally and are the first users of things like the AESA radar after all.
Now the problem is that it's just too costly for them. They will probably seek help of a USA company for the engine, my fear would be then that the USA take pretty much control of the project and that it end up to be another US fighter who happened to be build and used in Japan.

Or some nazi jet fighter.

I'll concede she would be a highschool senior.

The principle would be a F16 or something.

Only the "replacement for the F-2" claim is even close to accurate.
>>
>>29736401
The F-2 was a failed clusterfuck barely better than a Block 30 F-16C.
>>
>>29736427
Looks like a yf-23.
>>
>>29736469
....

This is a tech demonstrator. If the F-2 was such a failure with no exports, then we can expect this plane to follow a similar fate.
>>
>>29740778
>one tech demonstrator flew for 12 minutes before landing
>already better than the J-20
>>
>>29739800
Is this bait? The f22 was always the air superiority fighter and the f35 was the multirole.

It's just like the f15 and f16. If they ever got external drops working well on the f22 it'd be a great strike fighter too I'm sure. That would be secret sauce though so we won't know for decades.

The f22 is done with production because we pared our order down to nothing because we always fight the last war. Not because it's old or bad.

F-4 is a senior. F-14 isn't, but is in the retired EC club. F-16/F-18/etc are still in active service (in clubs), they certainly aren't seniors yet.

As far as I know, family (beyond same manufacturing conglomerate/nationality sibling students) and educators have never been shown. All planes are students in various states of activity. B-52 and Tu-95 are active students, for goodness sake.

I mean, you could write your own, because "How do you do, fellow kids?" F-14 sounds pretty rad, but it's not the timescale anyan uses for flight highschool.

Pitot tube.

It's only there because this is a prototype aircraft. It will be hidden somewhere else in the final version.
