Any thoughts from K on a Ruger American vs Savage Axis?

Narrowed it down to one of these two in 308 as my first centerfire rifle (primary purpose is deer hunting).

Axis 2

No contest.

Well out of those two yes, but he'd save money by just going for T3 or somesuch. 'Cheap rifle -> regret not getting a better one -> actually good rifle'-route is more expensive than just getting a decent one straight off

You won't regret buying an Axis II

My brothers is pretty crap DESU.

Shit tier trigger that can't be adjusted and it's heavy as fuck to pull.

In comparison a friend has a Remington and his father has a SAKO both in .223 and they are miles better. Also more expensive. But if you like hitting things further out avoid the AXIS

OP here.
I prefer to buy American, so am inclined against the Tika 3

Realistically, I am not going to be taking shots over 200 yards, maybe 300 yards max.

Mostly hunting in timber lands out here.

Do they cost the same? If so the American is built cheaply but handles like a premium.

I still haven't gotten to shoot the axis yet, but holding it in the gun store I liked the feel of the American a bit better (mostly the bolt function).

Lucked out at the range the other day and shot one of the Rugers and rather liked it. Had heard negative things about the trigger but it seemed fine to me.

Locally seem to see the American for $75 less or so.

There is a time and place for patriotism, supporting a company producing subpar products over getting better value for your money is not it.

Axis II has an adjustable accutrigger familia, he has the axis I.
