I'm really liking where this plate carrier is right now. My gear in general is in pretty good shape. All that's left is to get out and use it more, get it dirty, see what I do and don't like.
>>
my shoulder's starting to heal up really nicely, so I'm able to get out in the woods now and wear it.

My training plan involves doing what I do on every training lane in my unit: Walk in through the woods, take a knee, walk some more, take a knee, simulate the gps and compass both breaking, take a knee for 15 minutes, walk some more, and as an added bonus, because it's my property and there's no one else out there, shoot some live ammo at some targets once I reach an objective, which would be a point where I'm on elevated ground shooting at an area with a good backstop.

can we talk about training in this edition?
physical fitness, shooting in gear, how to move through the woods, that sort of shit?
No first aid, because that shit really really needs professional instruction.

bump.
I've done enough squad movements to understand my position in a battle drill movement, and I can practice it. But a lot of you guys are solo acts.

If i was alone, break contact would be my go to. I wouldn't try anything else. Anyone know how to break contact as a solo?
>>
>>29600059
As dumb as it sounds, I almost feel like a pair of smoke grenades and a firecracker could decently cover a singular break from contact.

probably. For what I plan to do, I intend to go out into the woods and wing it for the most part. I have a good handle on what I need to be capable of and what I need improving. But if any of you guys had advice, I'm all ears.

>>29600181
people don't like all cotton pants, but the dickies I'm wearing in all my pictures have held up great. They don't get too hot, and I've worn them for hours on end in the hot sun digging holes and planting trees.

I wear tactical research flyweights, but only because in needed a good ar670-1 compliant boot.

>>29600216

I think they're cyre precision field pants with some sort of gaiters. I have some thick woods, and I might add that to my gear.

qb looks a lot like adam driver
giddy is a little short, but a good medium build. not fat or skinny.
Dr8c0's still tubby. He isn't obese anymore, but he's still got a bit of fat.

pathsofglory has that middle age man build of slowly losing the battle against cake. He's not larry snickers tier to be sure, he's still in pretty good form actually, but in one of his pics you can see pretty well he's starting to bulk a bit.

Operator as fuck is skinny and tall

curious george is an autistic skeleton.

I feel like MSD is a little chunky, but that photo might not of been him.

that's all the tripfags I know off the top of my head. Suprisingly lack of hambeasts.
>>

Skeletor is a scrawny ginger manlet.
>>
What sort of gear set-up for a "DMR" rig?
I was thinking about having 6 20 rounders on a battlebelt.
>>
>>29600342
totally forgot about skeletor. he doesn't post in /arg/ much, not like he does here. same reason i didn't include chimps, even though I know exactly what he looks like.

>>29600357
exactly as you would set up any rig in the same caliber. A dmr is still part of the fireteam. Setting up your rig for comfort shooting from all positions because extra important however, so single stack mags up front is just about essential.
>>
>>29600193
Are you a girl/trap?
>>
>>29600357
That sounds like a reach with nothing but or an unbalanced load and diversity. If you want to stay light, micro rig with 2x1 and a warbelt with 2x2 sounds like a better setup.
>>
>>29600525
>>29600525
The other option I was thinking was a mixture of 20s and 30s, with the 30s on the rig and 20s on the belt. Its an AR, not a BR, just for reference sake.
I would like to keep light if possible, hence why I haven't planned on having any kind of plates. If I ever do, it would only be a front one.

just go for 30s. maybe not from a table, but you can shoot prone with 30 rounds fine. It's more efficient. No plates. Fuck one plate shit. Look at bfg ten speed. A very slick fucking chest rig. 4 rifle magazines is more ammunition than you think.

I have a AAC i bought marked as a medium. I found that it was to fit medium esapi plates which are 9.5"x13"(?) and most plates sold that are marked medium are about 10"x12" or so... the plate pocket is also really thin so.... Fuck. have you found this problem? Its like i have to buy a plate pocket marked large if i want to fit non esapi medium plates! anyone wanna either sell me some medium esapi plates, or wanna buy my AAC? lol
>>
>>29600691
I was thinking of buying an HSD3 for that purpose then. I considered the Ten Speed back when, but I think Nutn noted they would stretch with use

>>
>>29600757
Funny, my "10x12" plates are smaller than medium ESAPIS. There's not a standard out there for these manufacturers. I had to add some cardboard to fill out my PC, but for the most part it's fine, don't worry about it.

it's a baofeng uv5r with an extended battery.
my personal experience with it is limited. It picks up the repeaters and all the local public safety signals wish no problems. It has a good reputation as the cheapest ham radio that isn't absolute shit. you can look up a ton of videos about it.
>>
>>29600836
It looks like a baofeng. $30 shortwave radio. Cheap, PITA to program, technically illegal to use, unrestricted channel use in the spectrum without modification, and nearly a toy but it gets the job done.

I have a yaesu ft-260, waterproof, easier to program, and more durable but costs 5x as much, and can't TX on as many frequencies without modding. I have a baofeng as a backup/loaner. The baofeng is a nice entry point to comms but they are not meant for hard use. Even my yaseu is questionable bit it has held up well thus far despite me playing in the rain.

It carries load a little better than if you were just using platebags. I have a JPC and the points where it annoys me are coincidentally exactly where the AVS harness lays. The JPC is a great carrier but it really annoys me to wear it for a whole day, especially if I'm hiking or standing the whole time.

The load is carried with the whole back rather than just the shoulders. It also keeps the plates off your spine.

>>
>>29601237
No it's Iraqs lesser special force (the obr that had a bunch of personel switched around because of the corrupt military leaders and not the one trained by delta) surrendering to Isis like 3 years ago.
>>
I think the whole carrier weighs something like 1.3 pounds? I can't remember, it's inconsequentially light on its own though. I've been told the harness has a mix of HDPE Plastic and Carbon fiber in it to keep rigidity. I'm not going to rip it open to find out, but I do know the two and three band cummerbunds have carbon fiber in them.

This is Squid's, mine wont have any of the same stuff on it but you get the idea.
>>
>>29601292
So like a plate pannel mounts to the harness?
>>
>>29601234
It's /k/, every conversation seems like an argument because of the shouting over the tinnitus. Not everyone gets that.

What antenna you running on your baofeng? I have a Nagoya 8".
>>
>>29601328
I'm taking a dump right now and I can't remember the brand name. It's some chinkshit 14 inch. I have no idea if it's any better then the one the radio comes with but it seems to help with the am/fm signals. I don't talk on the ham channels because I don't have any one to talk to. I just listen to the ems/fire/police channels
>>
>>29601321
Yep, they are attached in a loose way to allow lots of flex and breathability, plus there is no weight falling directly on your back, it's buffered somewhat.
>>
>>29601385
Almost anything is better than the stock one. Supposedly the newer baofeng have a halfway decent antenna, I got the uv-5r5 and could barely get the next county. With the Nagoya I am picking up shit 15 miles out on a good night.

You aren't missing much with the ham chatter, I stopped listing on the public repeaters outside of storm watches because it is usually a few middle-aged dudes talking about their day.

the length of a hand helds antenna doesnt really matter.

you can buy slightly better antennas that are more sturdy and have better connections and that WILL improve signal clarity, but unless you're planning on having a 1/4 wavelength or longer antenna, then going from a 5 inch stock antenna to a 14 inch nagoya isnt going to give you any extra range whatsoever.

my suggestion is to buy a stubby antenna of better quality so that it doesnt get caught on other gear and poke you annoyingly, and then buy or build a 1/4 wavelength roll up wire antenna for long range comms

On the off chance you're not shitposting, I don't think putting pistol mags on a PC is a smart idea. If I were to get a pistol, I'd get a battle belt.
>>
>>29601705
I should add that if you go with a roll up wire type antenna, then go with a full or quater wave length for 2 meters 144mhz and either a stock 6 inch regular antenna or the full 70cm which is 440mhz

Red to mark casualties is pretty common. Outside of that there is very little standardization in chem light usage.

I like to use red to mark my tent/hammock (because medic) and my unit uses green for leadership personnel. We mark cleared rooms with amber.

Of course, that is training thing.

I suggest developing a system and sticking to it to avoid confusion. Maybe see if the local FD or PD have a system and use that.

It's a baofeng. And despite what some people might say it's not a "toy". Go on YouTube and look up reviews. There is one video of a guy who takes his, runs over it twice, freezes it, sets it on fire and partially melts it, then puts out the fire by drenching it with a garden hose and it worked. Give me a few and I'll try to find the video. For 30$ you can't beat it, just get a longer antenna for better and longer reception and you'll have a nice comm for the money

Can anyone recommend a company that makes a decent OD plate carrier

agreed. PC should be the bare essentials. Also it is better to use space for primary ammo than secondary.

How operator are you that spray paint isn't working? I redid my stuff maybe every 6 months after actual day in day out use, and I only repainted because I was an aesthetics queer, not because it was needed.

Most companies will have od as a color choice. Good brands are skd, mayflower, tactical assault gear, warrior assault systems, first spear, lbt. Obviously there are big price gaps in between companies. Decide what you want in your pc then research the brands listed as well as others and find one that fits your preference
>>
>>29605237
Why would you wipe it down with rubbing alcohol. I'm not saying that's the cause, but I've never seen anybody do that, and never seen anybody have issues with painted gear.

Just a quick run with a dry rag to get the dust off is enough. You're spray painting a helmet, not making high art.

Paint it again. Let it dry completely. Apply matte varnish.

Not the guy with the helmet, but rubbing alcohol acts as a cheap degreaser to clean the surface of whatever your painting. And since most people have a bottle of it lying around their house it's convenient

To break contact solo, you'll essentially be doing bounding drills as you would with a buddy/in a team, only you won't have anyone else to cover you. Basically, you get down in the prone facing your target, pop off some well placed shots, get up when there's no lead flying, run opposite your target ~50 meters, get back down prone facing them to pop off more well placed shots, and then do it over and over until you're clear of your target.

It's big from fat currently although when I'm actually in shape it's still fairly large, same with my thighs. Even when I'm in shape and don't have a lot of fat. I've been trying to work it off and was making some progress but since I have this hernia I can't do too much physically. I go back to the doc next week to tell then the meds they gave me haven't done anything. Probably need a surgery to fix it but should hopefully be active again.
>>
>>29599848
I don't have a carrier to train in currently for shooting. My PIG finally died. So I've got plates, but no way to wear them.

I've been slacking a bit physically because my job hours have sucked, but that will change. I'm trying to get motivated to go hard again on PT. Did some working sets of clean and jerks, and then burpees last night until I couldn't feel feelings anymore. Finished with some pull-ups which l like doing as hauling one's own weight is a good measure.

I've been eating like total trash, and switching back to eating more decently past week or so. Going to switch from alcohol to kava, been having more protein shakes, cut way down on caffeine, and no more heavy HFCS foods.

Doing casual rucks at a ~3mph pace innawoods with a 50lb (45 dry, 5 wet) pack twice a month.

I haven't been to the range in almost a month (REEEEEEEE). Trying to stay reverent with snap cap malfunction clearing drills and using a rubber duck rifle to clear my hallways.

Going to be going out this weekend for 100 yard shots with my .308 and AR-15. Hoping for sub MOA and 1.5MOA groups respectively.

So I've got my Emerson combat pants for the kneepad integration. Pants themselves are decent but not the best. They are definitely a lot better if you swap out the shitty kneepads for the Crye ones they're a lot better. In the last thread someone had just recently acquired Proppers ACP pants for cheap. I asked how he liked them but the thread died before I could get a response. Does anyone know where to acquire these pants and if they're any good. I have some propper BDUs and if they're anything like those they'll be good to go. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have never seen a white PC, only white concealable vests. You could get an airshit carrier and bleach it. No idea how much worse the bleach will make it but outside of expensive PCs in snow camo, that may be your only option.

A few companies will do custom patterns, but you will be way over $50 for one of those because they are quality and American made.

There is no list of gear everybody needs. Everybody has a different intended use for their gear so what you have now may be fine for one use, but entirely inadequate for other uses.

What you have, including plates and IFAK, would be fine for home defense or an uparmor kit for a cop.

Hanks Amish or 5.11's kydex reinforced leather. I have had the 5.11 for a few years and it has held up well aside from the kydex breaking where the eyelet I use is, but that doesn't cause any problems.

I've had a pair of Propper bdus in 65/35 polyco non rip stop I've used for work a couple days a week for about two and half years almost. I do tree work, outside all day, clearing brush. The only major rip I had was at the crotch when I stretched really far to climb up into the bucket on the boom of our work truck. Got it seed up and it has been fine, going on three months now. There are a few small holes where a lot of wear and briars. They've faded some, but keep in mind I wash then after every use so about twice a week for two and half years almost, plus being outside all day with the sun. I'm at work right now, but I promise I'll post pics as proof when I get home from work. If not this one, I'll post then in the next gear thread

I built my own. I feel like if you build your own you can go for a mission specific set up. The pre assembled stuff seems to be Jack of all trades but not optimal in any of them. If you build your own you have more options. Like in mine I have 2 CAT tourniquets, an Israeli bandage, a bunch of gauz, gloves, some pain pills, and medical tape. That's all I really need in mine and it probably cost a fraction of what a preassembled IFAK will cost you. It all depends on what you'll need and your budget.

You can buy kits from a few places that have the pouch and/or essentials like chest seal, decompression needle, hemostatic bandage, etc., but you are better off buying the individual pieces yourself as you will tend to save money and be able to select parts like hyfin vs halo.

Remember there are different types of kits like a blowout vs an IFAK which have some crossover but if you try to put an IFAK in a blowout pouch, you are gonna have a bad time as you pull a magic hanky of medical gear just to get a motrin.

Depending on the setting the kit won't be as modern and high tech. Contemporary kit would be like what you saw here. Ruined future would be more ripped shirts for bandages, duct tape and plastic bags as a chest seal, inner bark of a willow as aspirin, etc.

With no training, major wounds will result in quick or slow and painful deaths. They wouldn't know how to spot or treat a tension pneumothorax, treat amputations or catastrophic injury to limbs, etc.
>>
>>29617174
setting is current day give or take.

if you've read the web-novel Worm, it's that setting time is before the last few arcs.
>if you have NOT read Worm, but like super hero stories, and enjoy well written settings (if not a well written main character) I might recommend it. it's VERY LONG

>They wouldn't know how to spot
character has "weakness detection" and can see physical damage and weakness, spotting the problem isnt the problem
>or treat a tension pneumothorax, treat amputations or catastrophic injury to limbs, etc.
thats the problem...

>>29617099
what is the difference between an blowout kit and an IFAK(Integrated First Aid Kit???)
>>
>>29617262
IFAK actually means Individual First Aid Kit. They can range from general first aid kits with only enough stuff for one person to kits with more specific purposes. Blowout kits are built with life threatening injuries in mind. In the military they're primarily used for gunshot wounds. So they'll have more specified items for that kind of thing. IFAKS are more generalized.
>>
>>29617421
so, cuts, scrapes, unspecified bleeding is IFAK

and any injury featuring the following words is a blowout bag
>internal
>gushing
>dismembered
>big hole
>>
>>29617516
Basically. IFAKs definitely can have the tools needed to treat more serious wounds. But blow out kits are designed specifically for those major injuries.

assuming a purchase of a pre-built setup, how much would a good IFAK cost, and/or weigh? character equipping small gear for urban combat against organized criminals

that compared to a Blowout bag.
nice simple estimate ranges, nothing too fancy needed...
>>
>>29617629
I don't know honestly how much pre assembled ones cost. I probably dropped $40-$50 in mine if you include the pouch and everything I put in it.
>>
>>29617691
gonna give it a 25% price hike and it should probably pass muster.

yours could be considered an IFAK or a blowout or some combo of the two?
>>
>>29617629
IFAK would weight up to about 2lbs and cost $50-200. There is a huge variation because it may just be bandages coupled with a blowout or by itself with no blowout.

A blowout would be about a pound and cost about $150.

To give you an idea of a blowout's cost:
Chest seals are $35
Tourniquet are $30
Israeli bandage is $10
Medical shears are $15
NP tube is $10
Decompression needle is $10
The pouches run $20-80 or more depending on who made it, if it is a tear-away, etc.

If there is no medic, then there would need to be a backpack worth of stuff ranging from aspirin to IV kits.
>>
>>29611570
Would be doing training too the woods I hike is BLM land so AK hike and shoot is good
>>
>>29617741
Yeah now that you mention it my estimate was a bit low balled. I probably spent close to $70 on the whole thing now that I think about it. To be fair though I did pic up one of those generic first aid kits you see at milsurp stores. The bigger one in the green plastic boxes. I pulled a good amount of stuff from there and filled in whatever I needed separately.

The newer Stowe shorts have an updated fabric blend that's much softer than the older versions which were kind of crinkly/newspapery. The front pockets are much deeper which helps prevent stuff from sliding out thanks to the slick material. They're so soft now they feel like gym shorts.

I have a full length pant version coming as well from moosejaw to use as a lightweight breatheable hiking pant this summer.

The backpack is really just a camel back, but it has a small amount of room in it. I keep extra helmet pads in there. My electronic earpro won't fit under my helmet unless I take some of the pads out, so if I don't want to wear them, I can put the pads back in. I can kinda reach over my shoulder to unzip it can grab them if need be, or I can just ask someone else to do it.

For the other pouches, one is a IFAK, the others contain my eye pro, a compass, emergency blanket, zip ties, 550 cord, and a wire saw.

It lasted about 2 years, but mind you that one of those years was a deployment where it was worn day in and day out and dragged through all kinds of conditions with way too much gear hung all over it. It continued to hold up well in training. It started wearing a bit, so I rotated it from being my military vest to being a for fun vest. I dyed it green (pic related) which I think hastened the death of the velcro.

Overall, a solid and well designed product. Would buy again. You won't wear it out with trips to the range.
>>
>>29621574
>You won't wear it out with trips to the range.
I laughed.

Solid though. Glad it held up. My only complaint is no quick release system to drop the plates immediately.

I know how long it takes. I had reclasses from reserve in basic, and a guy just transfered to active from my unit. Took 10 months. But I'm not starting the transfer till I have a degree and a 300 apft on paper. Should take less than a year for both of those things, maybe by the end of 2016. Start the transfer, be inb4 the end of 2017.

Primary (Larger) and secondary (smaller) IFAKs.

Which one goes on the belt and which one goes on the plate carrier?

I always just had the one on my plate carrier on deployment but one of these trendy range magpul ninja video youtube instructors faggots said primary goes on the belt and a small one on the carrier.

Any merit to this? yes no? Is he wrong? Am I wrong? Why. Convince me. Also, anyone got any opinions on ITS Tactical Fatboy/Tall boy med kits?
>>
>>29623784
the idea is that you always have your belt on you at all times, so the primary goes there.
anything more is additional insurance.
personally, I just keep them stocked with the exact same things.
>>
>>29623784
Blowout kit goes on your PC, towards the front. This is so you can be put on your back in the recovery position and access the supplies you have to save you. An IFAK would go in the same position if you don't have a blowout.

An IFAK in conjunction with a blowout would go on your warbelt because the belt would be worn at all times. So if you are in the wire without armor and you get hurt, you can still be treated.

This can be reversed but IFAKs are bulkier so they may get more in the way but if you want a slick belt for comfort or vehicular consideration then it may go on your PC.

The IFAK should have duplicate critical gear so if your blowout gets hit with bullets or shrapnel, there is still the most important supplies to save you and the reverse as well. Two is one, one is none philosophy. It also gives you the opportunity to save someone else and still have supplies to save you.

If you have a medic, then you can totally have just a blowout and depend on doc to have the rest.

The double medical gear is from a decentralized medical support philosophy where everybody may be treating anybody so you or anyone else has the supplies to treat themselves and one other, theoretically giving the capacity to care for twice as many people.

TL;DR: sound concept but not a universal truth.

Since this is a gearqueer thread...

How bad is camo mixing?
I live in a high desert, and found that ATACS actually works pretty damn well out here..
The problem is, I can't seem to find any high speed combat shirts in that pattern, only multicam.. which is fine, but there's too much green... Coyote would be... okay...

But I have ATACS pants, Chest Rig, bag, etc... I just can't seem to find an ATACS combat shirt (aside from one of the super long sleeved buton down ones from Propper)

So...

There in lies my quandry
