Just had a massive range day and really need to clean my rifles but i'm out of gun oil
what can I use to replace it? I have a whole heap of cooking oils and there is a hardware store just down the street which should have motor oils
nearest gun shop is nearly an hour away :/
>>29562144
I should clarify that I'm also out of motor oil
>>29562144
Go to Auto parts store and pick this up. Its works fucking great, and costs less than gun oil too.
Just use canola oil, OP.
>all this shit that causes cancer when vaporized and inhaled after firing
>not using mineral oil from the pharmacy as a stopgap before going to gun store for a nontoxic gun oil
just use cum.
Kroil.
Motor oil inside BCG and barrel.
Cheap Crisco coconut oil on all other surfaces.
>>29562285
Any specific motor oil?
Automatic transmission fluid and kerosene... Carb cleaner also cuts carbon very well because that's what it's designed to do.
>>29562285
>Crisco coconut
*any refined non-organic cheap brand.
>>29562285
also will motor oil fuck up a wood stock? I use G96 usually due to it being really good with stocks
>>29562346
Using motor oil and acidic chemicals will definitely lead to wood discoloration.
>>29562144
>what can I use to replace it?
more gun oil
>>29562180
doesn't last very long though
I had a firewood bundler and I used that and I had to constantly respray
"Gun oils" are all either repackaged food or automotive oils, don't waste your money.
A quart of synthetic oil will work better and last forever for $6
>>29562433
okay, I only really need the oil, I use hoppes 9 anyway
just means I need to be careful
>>29562487
>Hoppes 9
Save your money and buy a gallon of kerosene which is what 80% of hoppes is.
>>29562316
>kerosene and carb cleaner
That is pretty dry and penetrating.
If OP uses this, he have to re-lube after drying the gun.
IMHO it is better to just wipe away carbon/dirty lube and apply new lube.
>>29562316
>>29562613
>kerosene
Kerosene is not "dry" but it has poor friction coefficient.
>>29562144
Solvents clean
Lubricants lubricate
>know the difference.
>>29562613
>>29562692
I should also mention I'm an ausfalian so I wont need to worry about semi auto's
>>29562479
This.
The good ones adds a little PTFE.
>>29562512
> missing out on that banana smell
Nigga, I hope you are joking.
>>29562692
That's why you mix it with the ATF which persists and has a lot of detergents to keep working...
The other bits aren't really necessary...
>>29562760
> 1oz Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey
> 1oz Banana Liqueur
> missing out
>>29562831
TL;DR
OP here,
Should be fine?
>>29562991
Yeah, lol you asked for help, just to get whatever you wanted anyway
>>29563006
Ths guy gave me the answer
Ive never used motor oil
>>29562479
>>29562991
yes, i use synthetic motor oil. it works just fine.
>>29562144
Just buy some fucking 3 in 1 machine oil. It's the same exact base as gun oil, just not marked up 400% for a chemical you don't really need.
Coconut oil
Rape seed oil
Moble 1 full synth
Olive oil
>>29563217
Too drippy.
>>29562213
>memes: the post
>>29562316
carb cleaner is for cleaning out deposits from old/shitty gas fucking retard
>>29562144
There's a Walmart within 20 minutes of everyone in the fucking country, which all have a sporting goods department. They will have multiple options for gun cleaner and or lube.
>>29563615

>>29562715
Walmart is american cancer
>>29563655
OP here
Speaking of which i got it from Bunnings :D
They even had a snag sizzle
>>29562144
Just spray some fucking brake cleaner on them.
Easy as shit.
3 in 1 oil
>>29562831
personally i like to keep ATF as far from my guns as possible.
>>29563583
Are you fucking kidding me?
I just use 3 in 1 oil for all my metal cleaning/preserving stuff
It's cheap
It doesn't smell like shit
I can buy it at stores really close to me
