Why is it that AR rifles feel so dull to shoot? They aren't

Why is it that AR rifles feel so dull to shoot? They aren't bad, they work well( at least mine do), but they feel to me to shoot the same way a Honda Civic feels to drive... like a lifeless appliance. Maybe that's the reason why like the Civic, both can be riced out, but even then fail to be as fun as say, an AK. Not bait.

I have no idea what your are talking about. Do you equate felt recoil with fun?

I hate when a firearm has manageable recoil

its you not the car/gun thats a boring person. getting a more powerful toy wont increase your enjoyment
>>

Go gucci or go home.

/arg/ tier shitposting aside, do you feel connected with the gun? Did you put work into it?

Alternatively you aren't setting yourself objectives to improve upon when you go shoot.
>>
>>29555706
Not just related to recoil. And as I mentioned, I have ARs, and I like them. This sounds stupid, but maybe it's because they are good at what they do that they feel dull. They have no interesting flaws, they are comfortable to shoot, no recoil, etc. They are just unremarkable, and for what we expect from a rifle that's a very good thing. But doesn't make for fun shooting.

Not connected the way I feel behind even a .556 chambered AK, or M1A or SCAR. Maybe it's just me. Not saying I'm operator level or something, by any means, I'm speaking by comparison of other rifles under normal range type fixed target shooting scenarios.

nah
>>

I have fun shooting it. When I hit what I intend to hit at least. I think a lot of fun with it is just how fast it is to accurately shoot quickly and transition on targets. Malfunctions are easy and quick to fix.
I use to dislike AR's before I ever used one now I'm not sure if I could ever love another rifle the way I feel about ARs.

What other guns do you own and shoot regularly?
>>
>>29555757
lest be honest, most people buy guns to shoot them at range for fun.

Not every gun has to be 100% super efecient black salt rifle killing machine with irons and backup irons.

I like unreliable guns, because clearing jams and changing mags is just as fun as pulling the trigger and hearing a distant ping
>>
>>29555865
I don't shoot regularly.
Kicking around the idea of picking up a keltech p32, keep getting really close to the store and finding a reason to put it off.

Although I'm just going to be honest, I think AR is the best rifle in the world unless you have a very specific intention like extreme long range, or rapid fire, concealment, whatever.

I think saying it's the best rifle sold in the US is still a bit of a stretch, but def not world's best rifle, caliber being a huge issue as well as the questionable quality of some parts sold for them to the civilian market, as well as "muh direct impingement gas system" . What truly makes all these things forgivable is cost, and good ARs are cheap as fuck. When your budget exceeds $2000, a lot of better options start to open up.
>>
>>29555697
Agreed. You can feel/hear the springs inside it. It's like shooting an airshit gun.
>>
>>29555930
I'm not going to fault the rifle for it's caliber because I think that is part of the intention for the weapon. Honestly any fault you can find with the AR grab your favorite rifle it's probably going to have the same or worse fault with a lot more drawbacks in addition to that one.

>Why is it that AR rifles feel so dull to shoot?
It's marksmanship on Easy Mode. I've got a 16" barrel on a High Standard M4 style rifle with an older EOTech on it (no zoom), and out to 100 yards, it's the easiest thing in the world to shoot. No challenge, no misses. Normally I want to dickpunch anyone who says "it's like a videogame!", but that thing's so easy it takes all the fun out of shooting. I probably need a longer range.
>>
>>29555752
I feel exactly the same way. I sell my ars every time I finish a build

That has been my experience too OP. They are very underwhelming to use. Almost no noticeable recoil, good accuracy without trying. They are good for vaporizing groundhogs but that about it. That's why I love the SKS so much. The effort of using the iron sights, the inherent personality they all have make it a much more enjoyable experience.

Nice to see others who share this unpopular opinion. totally agree OP, I've got a early 90's colt HBAR that eventually I'll use for some HP match shooting, but I just can't get that excited about it. I just have so many more interesting rifles I could shoot, like my Swedish mauser that I'm probably gonna use for the next match in a couple weeks. both it and the AR will shoot sub MOA with irons, but it feels way more satisfying to be able to shoot well with a 92 year old gun then a sterile, highly developed piece of modern warfighting equipment.

>>29555952
this can be fixed, check out JP Enterprises Silent Captured Recoil Buffer Spring. got one in my HBAR, it's fantastic. sadly, the rifle is still boring as hell.

the thing is like a Honda Civic the AR is a shitty platform until it gets riced out. out of the box in the hands of someone who knows how to shoot an AR perform it's task but not in any way better than a stock AK. Once you start ricing the AR though it can be tuned to outperform an AK and the work can be done at home in your own garage. The AK can also be tuned but you will need a lot of special tools and equipment to do it and most people won't have that in their garage unless they build AK's.

>>29555697
The civic analogy is perfect. The civic is a damned good car, is like fucking legos to repair/work on, and is an all-around incredible piece of elegant engineering for the price.

Which is why AR's always felt boring to me. If I'm going to have a battle rifle as a range toy (because let's be honest, scatterguns are the GOAT home defense weapon unless you live somewhere with tons of open space), then I want it to be something a little less common and a little more sexy.

It's like driving a SAAB instead of a Civic Si. Both are very capable FWD sports sedans, and the Honda is easily the better car objectively, but the SAAB just has that special "something" that the Honda will never be able to match.
