I don't think he was necessarily a terrible person, he suffered from the typical SEAL mentality where he's convinced he's a superhero and was trapped in the pattern of selling that persona to the public once the book came out. It didn't help that he had a million fanboy worshippers. That kind of shit makes people do and say stupid things.

Well Simo wasn't a proven liar who tried his damnedest to turn his service into a lucrative media career.
Simo was in an incredibly target rich environment he was familiar with during a total war so no restrictive ROEs.

I've never seen any official confirmation of Kyle's 160. He told other easily disprovable lies. Honestly I'd be shocked if the number was legit.

>>29552414
The WWII vets set the stage though. You really think pic related wouldn't be selling shirts and shit if he were alive today? The culture is different now.

Look at Alvin York and Audie Murphy.
York was offered celebrity status for his role in WWI and wanted nothing to do with it. He eventually went along with the movie because he believed in WWII.
Murphy mean while was offered the same deal and said hell yeah, becoming a movie star. Other stars, notably Jimmy Stewart, served in the war despite being stars before it broke out.
But the biggest difference between York and Murphy was that Murphy wanted to be a war hero. The propaganda made it a desirable thing.

In Kyle's case (and Luttrell and Bissonnette) they became SEALs hoping to do cool shit and become famous. (I actually think Biasonnette write his book partially thinking it'd keep him out of prison but that's for another thread) Part of the issue is the misuse of special operations but that is also is a topic for another thread.

He wasn't only winning, he won. And my understanding is that defamation cases are difficult to win in the US, so this is especially damning to Chris Kyle.
>>
>>29559291

An agreement to build a nuclear facility was signed with France on 17 November 1975.[12] France was to supply two Osirak reactors, each fueled with highly enriched uranium. The project was conducted by a French consortium called CERBAG, with the member companies Technicatome, Société Générale pour les Techniques Nouvelles, Comsip Enterprise, Constructions Navales et Industrielles de la Méditerranée, and Bouygues Offshores.

When France became concerned about Iraqi diversion of bomb-grade material, the French tried to convince the Iraqis to accept a much less enriched form of uranium. Iraq refused, so the French shipped the first reactor core in June 1980.

The CIA judged that France (and Italy) were unlikely to default on contracts, as they wanted to keep the good will of a major oil supplier. Iraq's leverage, however, was assessed as having less oil capability as a result of the Iran-Iraq War.

Libel/slander suits are hard to win especially as a public figure (like Ventura) because you (specifically public figures) have to prove there was actual malice behind the person's statements.

Jesse Ventura won a libel case against the estate of Chris Kyle the same year the movie came out.

Winning a libel suit against the widow of a nationally-famous war hero whose movie had just been nominated for 6 Academy Awards and won 1.

That's what a lying shitbag Chris Kyle was.
>>
>>29559536
That claim is what caused the defamation suit against Kyle. Ventura won because there was enough proof that Kyle just made that shit up to make money.

The Kyles (both of them) also lied about donating all book proceeds to veterans organizations. During the trial it was revealed that at most 2% was donated, and the real number was probably 0% due to shoddy book-keeping.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills.

I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words.

You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands.

Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue.

But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it.

>This shit

The "WWII Generation was the Greatest generation" shit needs to stop.

It's a meme. A literal fucking meme that's been running for decades.

Most soldiers and marines during WWII never saw combat. Objective fucking fact.

Those that did saw it in much lesser proportion than the Vietnam and GWOT generation did. They also had much lower operational tempos than the Vietnam/GWOT generation. Put aside emotion for a second and you'll see this is exactly fucking true.

The notion that the WWII generation caused no problems in society when they returned is a joke. Explosions in organized crime, motorcycle gangs, and other criminal elements were laid almost completely at the feet of WWII veterans.

Complaints about modern veterans being welfare queens and wanting handouts is a fucking joke. The WWII generation was handed everything without asking and when they weren't they modified the entirety of the US system to cater to them and are largely the ones responsible for the mess we're in now. If anything it was the Vietnam generation that ate it the hardest in terms of coming home. I would say Korea but that was a case of nobody knew what the fuck was going on, the Nam generation was actively discriminated against.

Fucking.

Meme.

Generation.

This isn't wrong. They grew up during FDR thinking the government should take care of them and are directly responsible for the mess we're in today.

That said the GWOT vets aren't any better, particularly the later ones. The sense of entitlement is every bit as big, if not bigger because they all chose to join up whereas a bunch of the WWII vets were not there of their own volition.
