Is the SKS still relevant in any way?
Wouldn't this rifle be the perfect choice for insurgents due to availability, accuracy and reliability.

Any gun is more relevant than having no gun. In practical terms it is outclassed by an AK if one has access to an AK.

It wouldn't fall apart like most AKs in the US, but if it doesn't accept detachable mags besides shitty duckbills it kind of sucks.
ARs are plentiful enough to not need to use them.

The short stroke gas piston system and the longer barrel make it slightly more but the differences are negligible. The AK is a much more practical gun IMHO, that being said, a cherry Russian SKS makes me moist.

It is obsolete compared to a modern rifle. or less modern rifle. Its magazine sucks, and its heavy for what it is. It is not particularly notable for accuracy or anything else when compared to its contemporaries.

It is not the best, but there are still a lot of them, it probably wont break anytime soon, and there is still a surplus of its ammunition, plus what makes it still relevant is that its ammunition is still made.
