Fine folk of /k/

I will be moving from Western Pennsylvania to Lower Michigan in a few weeks.

What I wish to know is how gun laws/culture are different there. I know Michigan reciprocates PA carry permits but will I have to get a new one? What is NFA like there?

For reference I'm moving to an upper middle class neighborhood in the Detroit Metro Area.

Some parts are lib-tards.. the further north you go the more gun boners you encounter.

This.

Michigan is a pretty decent gun state, just general stuff regarding limitations. No auto, need licensing for carry and concealed, tax stamps for suppressor, SBR, AOW.

As for whether or not you'll need an entirely new license, I'm unsure. I wouldn't think so, but hopefully a more informed anon can assist.
>>
>>29535894
I think you will need to get a new one once you get a driver's license from Michigan. I could be wrong though. Our gun laws are breddy gud, no complaints really. A lot of people in the Detroit Metro area own land up north for hunting/shooting. Just to warn you, you're moving to the worst part of our state.
>>
>>29536718
I believe if you are a new resident you need to take the cpl class and need to wait 6 months after your residence change... prior to taking the cpl class. Hopefully you are in macomb or Oakland county for quick turn around. Wayne county has an awful turn around...like 6 months after your app is submitted.

>im moving to an upper middle class neighborhood in detroit metro

so im guessing livonia/farmington/plymouth/novi?

You should like it here. Gun laws are similar to PA, although we have to register handguns, which is dumb. We're shall issue CPL, castle doctrine, cops are cool with 2A stuff, never had a problem, SBR's and SBS's are legal but must be registered as a pistol if under 26" i believe.

Can't carry in most bars which is dumb. The law states "if the establishment makes the majority of their revenue from the sale of alcohol carry is prohibited" or something to that effect. WE just streamlined our CPL process. Remember to declare your CPL and whether or not you're carrying if stopped by the police.

Honestly IMO SE Mich is the worst part. Move to Western MI or up north eventually if you can.

You can buy machine guns in MI. It used to be limited to curio and relics, but it was decided that the federal tax stamp constitutes a defacto license and is enough to fit the state requirement that all machine gun owners be licensed.

Yes it has changed. The DNR put concrete blocks out there to represent a shooting line. They were totally cool about it. They even improved the backstop using a land mover. The locals still dump trash there though.

>I'm moving to the Troy/Royal Oak area because it is close to my new job. Unfortunately moving any further outside the city is not in the cards though I could move from North to West at some point since I'll be working in Dearborn.

Not sure about about cpl reciprocity, but once you are a resident for 6 months you can apply for a cpl and will be issued one in 45 days. They changed the law recently and now they now have 45 days to confirm or deny your app. If they don't respond in 45 days your receipt becomes your defacto cpl.
>>
>>29537790
I was there around 2012 or so, they already had the blocks. I heard something about it being shut down or people trying to get RO's there but I guess not.
>>
>>29536782
Lenawee here, got mine in 8 days
>>
>>29537805
OP here, I did some digging through my state law and MI state and I'm still a bit fuzzy. PA claims their permits are fully reciprocated by MI, but MI also says you must be a resident for 6 months to apply to carry. This seems a little odd.

Also I see that classes are mandatory? I don't necessarily oppose that but I live near Pittsburgh and walked right into the city courthouse, got my permit, and walked right out in less than 5 minutes. Seems a little more arduous.

And one last thing. Michigan requires registration of purchased handguns but PA does not. Does that mean I'll have to register mine once I get there? Or that I won't be able to carry guns bought in PA?

>>29537777
I know Dearborn has a high muslim population but I haven't heard anything about it being a bad area. At least no complaints from other employees.

Michigan thread?

Okemos here. Moving to texas at the end of July, and MI is a decent gun state, just stay out of Ann Arbor.
>>
>>29537777
I live in Dearborn.

Gun laws in Michigan are not too bad.
You'll need a MI license to buy.
No ban on scary guns or mag caps.
No registration for long guns, but their is a bullshit pistol registration.
You'll need to drop off a copy of your purchase permit to your local PD within 10 days of purchase.

CPL laws are pretty atrocious, and I unfortunately don't carry for this reason.
You can see the ridiculous list of prohibited premises here:
http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,4643,7-123-1878_1591_3503_4654-10947--,00.html

Hunting in Michigan is beautiful and awesome.
I like it here.
>>
>>29537988
They also recently allowed suppressors for hunting as well

>>
>>29537904
>Does that mean I'll have to register mine once I get there? Or that I won't be able to carry guns bought in PA?

You have to register your "pistols" via a pistol sales record (RI60 form). You basically sell the pistol to yourself.
>>
>>29537988
>You can see the ridiculous list of prohibited premises here

The restrictions suck but at least they shouldn't impact you carrying a majority of the time. Unless you go out to a bar everyday.
>>
>>29538210
A doctor from Oakland County told me in a message that I should arrive prepared to be polite, receptive and astute. People from Michigan are intelligent and they expect you to be intelligent.

Geez Louise, I felt like I would be defending my dissertation.
>>
Michigan has breddy gud gun laws, lot of people conceal carry, land up north is cheap so you can easily set up your own personal shooting range.

A few areas to avoid, but even downtown Detroit has changed tremendously since the early 2000s.

I had an office job downtown Detroit for many years before moving on to work further north.

I think you'll end up enjoying Michigan, I love the state simply for the fact you can do so much and visit really great places like West side, Grand Rapids, Meskegon, Traverse City,, Mackinaw Island, the UP including Marquette and Houghton... really an amazing State that has a great deal of stuff to do.
Also, we have dogmen in central Michigan, so be careful if you plan on buying land up there, especially if people trying to sell cabin + land for a too good to be true price, chances are you will get visitors at night and end up selling the place as well.

For a 0$ fun range experience you can find some state land that is not designated as a recreation area and that is away from private property.

There was this one time that a group of 6 or so upstanding urban gentlemen came out and ghetto fired their pistol at the 10m range and literally did not hit the target a single time in like an entire box of ammo with all of them trying.

was pretty lulzy watching them all agree with each other that the gun was broken.
feel a lot better about driving around in detroit after that

This desu. And to all the fags crying about the front plate, can you honestly say you have never seen a vehicle with a vanity/sports plate saying Michigan? Really.

Also fuck ohio

I understand if you can't make it to Virginia. I try to spread event locations around a bit so more people have a chance to make a NuggetFest. Michigan is pretty out of the way for most other states but we'll see what happens next summer.

>>29540565
naw I'm just complaining

I think what you're doing to try and build some semblance of community is great. I hope arkadia exceeds all your aspirations, I would love to be a part of the build crew but again . . . way to expensive away. Nothing but respect for you, anon

>>29540557

Ah, top gun. Bought so many glocks from there. Nice store with nice employees, but they aren't very knowledgable unless its a polymer wonder 9, 1911 or AR.
>>
>>29540493

I've done that before.

That wooden setup they have is incredibly irritating
>>
>>29540816
Yeah at the 50 and especially 25 yard range it can be annoying to shoot depending on if your standing and how tall you are.
>>
>>29540493
>>29540816
>>29540871

weird, ive never had a problem with the set up at island lake.
>>
>>29540941

Pistol range is a bit fucked for shorter people because of how the wood beams block your view.
>>
>>29540952
Its good if your ~5'5"+ else you better go to another range. They just kept the same structure for all 3 ranges they have. It works well if you shoot from the bench.

Could someone make sth like for Sterling Heights?
Kraut reporting in.
Married to an american qt and moving next year.
I am a mechanical engineer- would like to stay in the 30 miles radius.
Would like to buy a small "town house" first and move late to a cottage/farm.

Has anyone experiences with the german-american marksmanship club?
Thank you= Danke
>>
Man, this thread reminded me how much I fucking love Michigan
>>
>>29544131
I'm in Sterling Heights at the moment, stay north of 16 Mile/metro parkway/Big Beaver road and you'll be in the better neighborhoods.
>>
>>29539465
Suppressors are legal to hunt with

Only pellet pistols with rifled barrels are considered firearms and need to fill out the registration slip

Caliber restrictions only apply to deer hunting. And only applies to people south of M-46 minus the thumb. which was the old "Shotgun zone"
you can use any straight walled cartridge with a case length no shorter than 1.18 inches and no larger than 1.8 inches and above .35

Also Fuck Ohio. Doesn't Ohio still ban any mag that holds larger than 31 rounds?

Did I say Fuck Ohio
>>
>>29544131
Sterling Heights is filled with Chaldeans and Albanians, much like Clinton Twp. The north west part of Sterling Heights is the better part.

Move a little more north into into Ray Twp, Armada Twp, Bruce Twp, or Lenox Twp. you will find a little cheaper houses with some land. Also Stay out of Washington Twp, it's full of fucking yuppies as is a lot of Shelby Twp. Also be weary of New Haven, full of White trash and Negros.
>>
What is with the caliber restrictions? Or is that only a flatlander thing?
>>
>>29545423
>Or is that only a flatlander thing?
yup

CA transplant to MI, confused me at first. They don't want you killun chilluns in the next county over when you inevitably miss your shot.

Also why tree stand hunting is a thing, so you're always firing at a downward angle
>>
>>29546694
Yea, I've lived in the northern lower for a while now, and the caliber restrictions thing is new to me. Must just be a south of I-96 thing. 243s and 30-06s aplenty for hunting up here.

A relative of mine moved from Wyandotte to Columbus, OH for a job. I advised her if anyone asked about her history to lie and tell them she was born and raised in Ohio. That way no one will think she's a moron for moving there.

Gr fag here, nothing useful to say that hasn't already been said. I work in manufacturing and the gun culture is real. 8/10 coworkers have their cpl.
