Frank Castle is an established character, even in his own god damn origin story. EVEN IN HIS ORIGIN STORY (the ennis one about nam), you only get to see character development and emotional reactions from the characters around him.
That's how you tell stories with him, you don't tell a story about him, you tell a story where his presence makes it more interesting.
You tell a dramatic story about the people he's putting down, or the victims of those people, or some people who he helps out and influences, or something like that.

I feel like that detracted from Daredevil, the character, a lot. I always always more interested in the characters around DD rather than DD. Whenever he was on screen staring off into the distance complaining, I was ignoring it. I didn't give a damn about him running and crying to a church every episode.
The characters around him? I cared a lot more. Especially the villains he was up against. That first season narrative for the villain was perfect even if he looked like that fat guy everyone hugs and is impossible to take seriously. DD doing flips and kicks kept getting old and boring. And then the ninjas? Didn't care. Frank? Oh God Yes, please more Frank. It was compelling and intriguing, and then it involved DD was trying to emotions, but I didn't care because his secretary was doing more interesting shit.
I started to not care about the last fight because there DD goes to fist fight people again instead of shooting them and... Did Frank just shoot people? Fuck yeah he's shooting EVERYONE.

Honestly, this. They screwed up so much in season 2, especially the Elektra storyline. Like, I was emotionally invested in franks story because he was a real guy dealing with real shit, and then they brought in a bunch of zombie ninjas into the show? It was horrifically stupid, and so fucking tropey. They're going out of their way to fill every angsty trope for daredevil that they can, to the point that you can predict what's going to happen on the show before it actually happens (I.e. When DD opens up to elektra with that "I love you, let's just run from all this" speech, I just didn't care, because it was so painfully fucking obvious that they were gonna kill her because of "muh angst").

I think it's Punisher Born where during the attack on Valley Forge frank is visited by a voice in his asking him if he wants to survive and live an endless war. Frank accepts and then is found gravely wounded but standing after the fight, the sole survivor. Well shit man, it seems like the punisher, who regularly competes with actual, literal superheroes and whose entire schtick is that he uses guns, should be, you know, shown to be somewhat competent with a firearm. But if I remember correctly, the only times you see him actually use a gun successfully are when he guns down the Irish with a mad minute of cyclic fire, which any rube can do, and when shot daredevil in the head, which was probably the best scene in the season and admittedly pretty cool.
The fight scenes were great and the prison scene was great, the suplex was great, but fuck.
