Looks like a system from another vessel was what did the interception
>>
You're a pretty good representation of what this board has become- brainless
>>
it was in the 80s, and it was a test, thats what a test is for, so you can learn from failures and mistakes. I'm sure today it works better.
>>
What is worse? Russian ciws not hitting anything, or american ciws hitting friendly ship instead of missile?

so the gun work, cool
>>
>>29522440

Since CIWS can't sink a ship, then not hitting anything would be worse versus losing a few dudes.

looks like my memory was only partially correct
>On 11 October 1989, USS El Paso was conducting a live-fire exercise off the East Coast of the United States using the Phalanx against a target drone. The drone was successfully engaged, but as the drone fell to the sea, the CIWS re-engaged it as a continued threat to El Paso. Rounds from the Phalanx struck the bridge of USS Iwo Jima, killing one officer and injuring a petty officer.

Listen, you can try to insult burger weapons incidents, or slav weapon accidents.

But they will never be as bad as Indian accidents. So let's all come together and chuckle at the poo in loos.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_Naval_accidents

"In 2010, three crew men on destroyer INS Mumbai (D62) were instantly killed when an AK-630 Close-in weapon system went off as safety drills were not followed.[1]"

I was talking to a retired Chief Petty Officer once while waiting at the VA.

I forget how the conversation got to him telling his sea stories. Though the one I remember is that they were testing a CIWS gun on his Burke sometime in the 90s. He was standing outside on the main deck just to the side of the gun. So he could see where the bullets were landing. The gun starts tracking along the railing of the ship instead of the target drone. Someone hits the emergency stop button before it hits anyone on the ship. The Chief swears he felt bullets whizzing by, like extremely close by.

Singapore is pretty friendly to China, because about 70% of population is basically chinese. But unlike China ours totalitarian dictatorship manage to eradicate corruption and provides us with a high quality of life.
>>
>>29524749
>>29522459
It also happened in gulf war 1, silkwork missile CIWS missed and peppered the IOWA with rounds, and then a royal navy ship did a tail end intercept with a missile
>>
>America does not have a fail record
>Created a CIWS that literally killed several people
>>
>>29522401
Yeah, CIWS isn't great. Phalanx, Goalkeeper, Kashtan, none of it is incredibly effective. Missile interception is from on board missiles.

This just shows that American bullying of China will not work
