Well the plot of the lore is really imcosistent.
In the first movie, Reece and the other resistence fighters seem to take them down with energy weapons and explosives.
When he goes back in time, he expresses doubt that lead projectiles from our 20th century weapons would do much damage, and he had the worse possible weapon, a low velocity shotgun with buck shot.
And we see later that cops with high velocity lead projectile weapons like M16's do nothing to their titanium framethe artificial flesh just acted like a sponge to absorb all those shots.
Really with 20th or 21st cenury guns we'd have to use large caliber tungsten or Depleted Uranium tipped high velocity rounds to knock chunks of metal off in hopes of disabling them or cracking their reactor or cpu.
But them the terminator movie with batman shows you can use 5.56 and large xaliber pistol rounds if you shoot the right spots...so now it's whatever.
