Looks like some kind of washer or shim. It probably needs to go back in, but it doesn't look broken. Good luck trying to find where it came from.

I've got an m&p 9 and I haven't seen anything like that in my gun, I also had it apart to do a trigger job a while back. Only thing I could see that going on would be the takedown lever to keep it from falling out the side? Mine used a little spring thing to keep it in, but maybe they're different.

thats an e-clip for a trigger pin.

its a c clip for retaining something. what exactly? i dont know. just took my m&p apart and couldnt find anything like that

Yeah, The few diagrams i could actually see, or zoom in rather, didn't seem to have a clip like the one pictured. I had asked my cousin (he knows more about guns that I do) and he said that it looks like a gas ring from an AR.

I figured out where it came from. I retains the plate on the side of my light that keeps the light on the rail. Fuck.
