I'm not seeing a gear queen thread so might as well start one.

I have a request for some suggestions, I currently have some british woodland DPM (UBACS, combat trousers, waterproof jacket) I'm a Brit now living in Alabama, I need some suggestions for a plate carrier, boots, headgear etc. For a bugout kit. Pretty much what you see is what I've got. What do you guys think i should get?
>>
Where did you find that Dpm ubacs?

>>29424074
I got it years back when i lived back in the UK. I know there are some places like cadet direct that ship internationally that sell them pretty reasonably since the British army switched to MTP.

old thread is dead, all hail the new thread. Someone asked for a stt review right at the end of the old thread. I don't want to do that, because i haven't used the STT extensively yet. I have a shoulder injury, and the utter lack of padding doesn't help. Hopefully by the end of april ill have my shit set up and we can have a full review

here's the short version
The tubes system interferes with shouldering and takes away valuable molle estate at the 10 and 2 oclock positions on your chest
There's no good way to set it up for swiftclips
The 6/12 system looks nice, but it's extra difficult to weave shit now

It only fits medium espais and 10x12 plates,

There's zero fucking padding anywere on this. If you don't shell out $50+ extra for skd pig brig pontoons and shoulder pads, you're going to have a bad time

There's no elastic in the cummberbund. Have fun readjusting it all the time.

All in all, it's a poorly designed plate carrier. I will use it, because I spent $200 on it, but I cannot recommend it for anyone else.
>>
Given the very green nature of the pattern, ID skip ranger green. Rg is too grey for that, and the two greens will be uggo.
Coyote brown would be my recommendation

Do you still have family living in the UK or you on your own? If you want to keep up the British Armed Forces soldier look, ask your relatives to buy some Osprey kit from Ebay. And you can get a pretty decent pair of black combat assault boots from any milsurp shops.

>>
>>29425086
I moved here to marry my wife so I still have a lot of family over there, I have someone associated with the Cadet forces over there so he basically has access to all sorts of surplus stuff and he sends it over from time to time but I'd like to get a little mixup going. Plus for plate carrier I'd rather get it here so that I can easily get stuff for it here.

>>
>>29425162
I don't trust my 1911 and I'm too cheap to go buy something else.

Sidearms are over rated anyway IMO.
>>
>>29425114
What do you have in the two large pouches?
>>
>>29425219
Ration, stripped down Cleaning kit, change of socks, some other basic sustainment items.

The idea being that with just my lbe, and a light assault pack, I should be able to perform a 3-4 day patrol.
>>
>>29425285
Why not have food and socks in your pack? Are you concerned about ditching the pack, or is it too small? I ask because your belt seems rather bulky.

In. Still waiting on my antenna relocator to get here.

Also debating on sticking with getting a Vortex Strike Eagle or stepping back to a SPARC and get a bunch of ammo and tools with it.
>>
>>29425316
I'd rather have the few absolute essentials physically attached. The belt doesn't weigh much at all, and the suspenders help keep it manageable.

Basically, I know how easy things can become lost when you're hauling ass, and even if I lost my pack, I'd still have the basics to survive.
>>
>>29425408
I'm curious about the furniture on your AR. What's the benefit over the more standard black handguards?

Nice desk, also.
>>
>>29425652
The benefit in regards to color? I just find it more aesthetically pleasing.

The benefit in design? It's a bit more comfortable in the hand, I can get a bit better grip over a simple round handguard. Plus it has the M-Lok slots so I can add different accessories, like the paraclip loop you see on the side and the vertical fore grip. You could do this with a standard foregrip but you'd have to drill holes into and mount a rail section.
>>
>>29425555
Fair enough. I generally carry assault pack ballast in a small buttpack since I carry an aid bag. It is a general nuance due to size rather than weight. If I have the option, everything but the very time sensitive things (ammo, IFAK) go in a pack.
>>
>>29425707
That's a good way to do it. I keep only the barest minimum of stuff on my belt. I hate the idea of getting stuck somewhere after having lost my pack or something. It's basically my "limp home" kit. lol.

I don't "think" you should get anything, I don't know you or what purposes you're trying to fulfill with your gear. All I can do is point you in a direction.
First, get yourself a rooty tooty point and shooty

>Plate Carrier
You better buy yourself some plates first.
http://bulletproofme.com/RP-Level-4-Stand-Alone.html

McNig on AR500 plates -
"Every single thread...

>defeated by common rounds
>only level 3 as opposed to level 4 ceramics (level 3+ is not level 4)
>spalling/frag causing preventable injuries and possibly death(spalling cover is useless once it falls off, which it will)
>weight
>the carriers they sell are rebranded Condor with somehow even shittier stitching

If you're going to buy body armor, buy a product that's actually designed for that purpose, not metal slabs sprayed with truckbed lining."

>PCs
Check: Ferro Concepts, Crye Precision, Mayflower, AWS (for their operators choice plate carrier), LBT, Perroz designs, Velocity Systems.
These are just a few names that come to mind.

Personally, I prefer the slick PCs with a chest rig.

Check the prices and see if you really want to go down that rabbit hole, instead of going the lighter faster route just rolling with a chest rig and pack.

>Boots
After your morning's exercise, or working on your feet all day, go to your local hiking shop get properly fitted and buy the shoe that feels nice and suits your fancy.
Feet swell when you are on them all day, and not all feet are shaped the same.

REI is a good place.

>Head gear
Watch Cap or baseball cap will do just fine.

Any further questions?

>>
>>29426755
Battle belt and h-harness.
>>
>>29426662
Depends on what is more comfortable with your head gear.
>>
>>29426755
What are we talking here

Duty belt
Battle belts
Or LBE type webbing like pic related.

Webbing I don't like wearing unless I know I'm going to be on my feet all day
Reason being, if you wear the shoulder straps over the PCs, the shoulder straps get wedged between the sapi and your shoulder, making it almost impossible to shoulder your rifle, and tiring to move around.
The only way I've found that works is wearing the harness underneath the PCs, which is downright comfy, but sucks for vehicle work.

+plus webbing and battle belt share the same problem when loaded too heavy they like to waddle/giggle - which does not feel too good on the joints when in full sprint.

I'm down with a duty belt or a belt for that matter.
Holster, two mags, maybe a dump if you're rolling with something that doesn't juggle smooth.

>>29426892
Don't be the super tactical dildo.
Roll with Normie shit, You'll feel less embarrassed while training.
Get to know your neighbors, and become friends.

Duluth make great pants
I like operating in dress shirts, or button down shirts.

With experience, your kit evolves.

You can take courses.

Or you could be like most people.
Search up what other people put in their ifak.
Research on the individual components, and how to apply them.
Then buy them off eBay or Amazon.
Throw them into a med pouch and forget about until the medic slaps your dying ass for putting several cans Chef Boyardee ravioli in your ifak pouch.

Just one hydration pack actually. the other two are filled with anything from flares to SSE equipment.

That's not my work gear anyway, when I DO carry two hydration packs as an AG, they're full of about 400 rounds of linked 7.62 apice.

Combine that with the feeders on my TAP and my belt, that comes out to about 1400 rounds of linked 7.62.

This doesn't even count what I have my ammo bearer carrying.

Is it breathing?
Make it breathe, or let it die.
Is it bleeding?
Make it stop bleeding, or let it die.
If it's got a collapsed lung you could get fancy and do valve and decompression needle. But honestly without medical evacuation you might as well pretend it's that sniper from metal gear and tea bag her corpse.

Stinky Juicy fruit coming out of their head or ears? Severe spinal or head injury. Taste some and keep them as still as possible. Ideally don't let anyone know you ate some. Practically need a full hospital to save them. Or just fucking eat their brain cause that shit is good.

No attachment points for suspenders anyhow. I'll buy a velcro pants belt for the gunfighter, and that'll be enough stability

Nothing wrong with that. Carrying your AR around wouldn't be practical.

I own a couple hand guns, I just don't think it's worth carrying one around in addition to my rifle.

Don't get me wrong, I see the merit. But it's still not worth the pain in the ass factor, because it's just another thing to maintain, another thing to risk losing, etc.

Besides that, if shit ever got so bad that I needed to break out my kit, I can expect a low survivability. So fuck it. I'll focus my training on my rifle so I can as effective as possible before for the (likely) short period of time that I have the opportunity to do so.
>>
>>29428102
I agree to a point.

Reading S.L.A Marshall 's book "The Soldiers Load And The Mobility Of A Nation" made me reconsider many things though, including the necessity of a packing handgun for a rifleman.

Its definitely a must-read for anyone interested in building kits, or warfare in general.

In general, the "better to have and not need" mentality drives people to carry far more than they will every use.

To each their own, though.

I was down to my M9 and a few guys were just sitting around with their knives waiting to get overrun before QRF got to us, and every CAS-EVAC bird dropped off bandoliers. Ammo goes fast. If I can't find more 5.56 I'd like to be proficient in another weapon system so I up my adaptability and survivability.

What's with the fasination with NPAs on /k/ all of the sudden? There is that one trip will loves them, but before that nobody really much talked about them.

I've seen people cause bleeding or blockage by shoving in not lubed enough NPAs- and that was in a training environment for people under training supervision.

I'd skip NPAs, chest decompression needles, and anything else overly invasive as suggestions for people who have zero experience. The "I'm helping" syndrome can cause more harm than good.

>>29430496
Keep it simple. I'd add gloves. Lots of gauze and (buddy tabbed) ACE wraps make for excellent multifunction pressure dressings. Add some premade chest seals (trust me making improvised ones in the heat of the moment sucks, make life easier for yourself).

I'd pack multiple tourniquets all set up for quick use. Remember that if you apply a torniquet and it doesn't work, leave the first one in place and keep adding more. Get trained on how to apply them and your other med items.

And yeah, just focus on stopping bleeding enough to hand off to a professional.

>>

When somebody is asking the basics of what to put in a medical kit, I presume they are untrained.

Somebody untrained is perfectly fine applying pressure dressings, seals, or even a TQ based on YouTube videos. Applying those things has a low risk of doing more harm than good.

Something like a decompression needle? A definate chance of a big fuckup without training.

>CLS

People think they got a big swinging dick from having done CLS. What CLS taught me is that I wouldn't trust 90% of "graduates" to do anything invasive.

since they're asking to begin with, I give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they know they need to receive proper education and to practice with each of those items, just like using their firearms.

>two canteens and a four cell mag pouch on a belt
seems bulky

I'm using the pouch as a dump pouch, I'm just waiting for my sadf water bottles to get here so i can use my battle jacket instead.

If I didn't get it in sale for $60, I wouldn't of bought it

It has lots of small compartments, so it's not as efficient as a small backpack with one big pocket. The magazine pouches on top are kinda silly. They work for I want them to do, which is cycle in fresh magazines into my pouches during a lull, but don't think you'll get speedy reloads off of them

You won't need your Georgia patch, because you have your bright as hell white canteen to act as your bullseye
