NFA review has been concluded, here's a quick run-down.

-5rnd magazine limit for centrefire and rimfire rifles
-6rnd limit for handguns
-lever action weapons have been moved to C cat
-buyback for k31 style weapons with a fixed mag over 5 rnds, all other magazines will be welded/pinned in order to meet the new requirements
-Straight-pull actions moved to C cat
-Military style rifles and accessories (red dots and the such) are now restricted from public sale on the federal level
-Ammunition log book at gun stores to record ammunition purchases
-A and B categories will now require a separate course and licence just like the other categories
-Ammunition to be stored in a safe that is of the same standard as the one for your guns (still separate however)
-effective Jan 1 2017 if the amendment passes the senate

I don't know what to say any more.

Being pro-gun is only part of it. How many Australian politicians do you think got in because of their anti-gun view? It's the other social views that got them elected. Progressive shit like feminism, gay rights, etc.

It amazes me how many /k/ users will talk about how great so-and-so is for supporting gay rights or the legalization of certain drugs yet become shocked when that same person pushes for anti-gun laws.

Politics is a package deal. Any politician running for office is toeing the party line. If you think progressive issues are more important than gun control, good for you. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. When you vote for those people and complain that they've stripped you of your more important rights, you can go fuck yourself. It's the future you chose.

“whenever the Legislators endeavor to take away, and destroy the Property of the People, or to reduce them to Slavery under Arbitrary Power, they put themselves into a state of War with the People, who are thereupon absolved from any farther Obedience, and are left to the common Refuge, which God hath provided for all Men, against Force and Violence. Whensoever therefore the Legislative shall transgress this fundamental Rule of Society; and either by Ambition, Fear, Folly or Corruption, endeavor to grasp themselves, or put into the hands of any other an Absolute Power over the Lives, Liberties, and Estates of the People; By this breach of Trust they forfeit the Power, the People had put into their hands, for quite contrary ends, and it devolves to the People, who have a Right to resume their original Liberty.”

Certain politicians seem to have convinced people that everything is separated into two nebulously defined groups called "liberal" and "conservative". This false dichotomy splinters resistance to their actions and allows each "group" an adversary to look noble fighting against, while they continue trampling our rights.

My point is that it is ALL important and that when the government's boot is stepping on your neck, it does not matter if it is the right boot or the left boot.

In living memory for my parent's generation we had literally no gun regulation in my state, fully auto Bren guns were owned by people and no state registry was kept. If there's one thing Australians are susceptible to it's guilt tripping (as a result of our cucked leftist education institutions brainwashing everyone) so Port Arthur is pretty much the perfect manipulation of the average complacent apathetic Australian's consciousness. I know people who gave their guns away in the buy back who say to this day "At the time we thought it was a good idea, we thought it was necessary." but they almost universally have grown to regret rolling over.

On a side note, this is a common argument style of all "progressives": Not that they can debunk your argument with statistics or logic, but that you're a bad person for thinking whatever it is you're thinking.

It doesn't matter that totally disarming the Australian population had no effect on the homicide rate (which continued to decline at the same rate as before the buyback), you're a piece of shit for even trying to have a conversation about it. I recently watched David Leyonhjelm, a libertarian senator who spoke out after the recent Lindt Cafe shootings saying that gun control had made Australia a nation of victims, be branded "arsehole of the week" on SBS (a government funded TV station) simply for raising the issue.
>>
>>29340166
>absurd "conservative" vs "progressive" dichotomy

Hey fuckwit, drug prohibition is as retarded as gun control. Either way it's the state controlling your life, making criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens and creating a huge black market for violent criminals. You don't have to like drugs to realise how pointless banning them has been.

And furthermore, we have no choice in Australia. The supposedly conservative party is the one who brought in the buyback in the first place. Both the government and the opposition go on TV together and congratulate eachother on what a good job they've done banning evil weapons and being smug about how much better they are than the US. They've managed to stifle gun culture so much that the average Australian is so far removed they couldn't give a fuck.
>>
>>29342360
>Certain politicians seem to have convinced people that everything is separated into two nebulously defined groups called "liberal" and "conservative"
Whether or not you want to admit it, it's true. Not on a personal level, but on a political level. No politician that is ever going to get elected and have significant power will ever be the mythical moderate that so many people want. It's a pipe dream. The political establishment has split it into two groups for a reason. Even if the guy who just legalized weed somewhere thinks that you should be able to protect your weed farm with guns, the political system won't let him do that. Political parties function as single entities. If you are causing problems by not conforming to the party views, then you're going to be out of there next election cycle.

> This false dichotomy splinters resistance to their actions and allows each "group" an adversary to look noble fighting against, while they continue trampling our rights
I'm not saying this isn't true. In fact, I completely believe it. But the way the system is set up won't allow for anything else. It'd take a revolution to change it, not that I'm advocating for a revolution. Revolutions and civil wars need to be left in reserve for only the absolute worst of situations.

>My point is that it is ALL important
I actually couldn't give two shits about most social issues (not that I'm for or against, I just don't care) and believe it should be left up to the state. Some rights are also more important than others.

Case in point: guns and free speech > "pay gap", gay marriage, etc
>>
>>29342262
Different poster but I would legit do that any day of the week. I've started putting in for the green card lottery but that shit is a long shot. I assume they would see straight through a gay greencard marriage though :(
>>
>>29344635
>Hey fuckwit, drug prohibition is as retarded as gun control
It might be as retarded, but it's not as important, and if you voted for an anti-gunner who made gun control legislation because of his open views on drugs, then you're part of the problem.

You can't use drugs to fight back against a tyrannical government.

>And furthermore, we have no choice in Australia

This is true and I agree with the need for tactical voting under the status quo, but realignments do happen. It just takes a while to kick off and is generally pretty chaotic when it does. See US presidential election of 1824, Whigs/early Republicans, the changing role of the South in US presidential elections from 1964-68, etc.
