So I was searching for a shotgun to add to my collection and ended up comparing the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500. I did allot of research and what I heard was that if going for new perductuon then the Mossberg was the better choice but if I was going for overall the best pump shotgun, then the old Remington's where the best. Also heard that the Wingmasters where the Catalac of 870's so I ended up getting this 1982 Remington 870 Wingmaster with an 18 inch barrel for $320. Still haven't shot it yet because I had a busy week but am going to shoot it tomorrow. How did I do /k/? Sorry for the potato pic.

Bump, not OP, but I'd like to know what /k/ says.

You did pretty good. 80s era 870s are legit excellent, it'll serve you well, especially since it's a Wingmaster.

>1982
might want to look into replacing the magazine spring
other than that good for you have fun
>>

Only downside I see is that the rubber pad on the stock smells like mothballs because some fudd probably bought it in the 80's and kept it in a closet. Then sold it at the LGS.

Why replace the springs? was there an issue with them at that point?

>Why replace the springs? was there an issue with them at that point?
its over 30 years old
and replacements are easily available so theres no reason not to

Not bad except that you can get them for $250 shipped from Summit. Pic related, 1971 I got the other day, police surplus. Hopefully capped some nignogs in the deep south.

Damn nigger sounds like a pretty good deal, I payed the price for mine because I was at my LGS and like being able to inspect used guns that I am buying. Still, if I knew it would come out good like yours then I would not have hesitated to save an extra $70

well I still gotta refinish the wood and the metal was worn where it rested on whatever they used to mount it in the cruiser so that needed touchup, but otherwise it seems like the cop never really used the damn thing

clickity clack my Wingmaster brother

Why don't you just get a good job?
>>
Don't bother replacing any spring except the magazine spring. I have a couple of 35 year old shotguns that are bone-stock internally, and are just fine for defensive use.

You should look at the shell carrier and see if it has the "flex-tab" which us a u-shaped cutout in the carrier. The reason for thios is that- IF a round pops past the shell stops at the wrong time, they'll tie the gun up to the point where you'll probably have to take the barrel off to clear the jam. A Flex Tab kit shouldn't cost too much- maybe $50.00-60.00 these days.

Otherwise- good call- no go out and practice with it.

You got yourself a very decent shotgun OP. Just make sure to take it apart and look for any worn pieces that you may have to replace since its an older shotgun(springs etc.) And you're golden.

Anon why is there silverware in that drink? The fuck am I looking at?
>>
>>29332068
I took it apart and it looks pristine. That combined with the rubber pad on the stock smelling like cotton balls leads me to think that some fudd probably had it sitting in a closet for 30 years

I made an iced coffee with a Keurig single cup and some ice, then mixed some equal into it. I take it black because less calories. I drink about 6 cups a day
>>
>>29332383
Should mix the equal before you ice it down. It absorbs into it a lot easier and quicker and no mixing after you add the ice. Nice gun btw and I wouldn't mind picking one up if I see one around here.
