I'm a collector. I try to avoid any duplication as I'll get bored with one of them. Of the two AK's one is chambered in 7.62x39 while the other is 5.45x39. I have three Lee-Enfields but they each differ greatly in sights and handling which makes shooting each of them a unique experience.
Owning multiple identical duplicates is something I cannot do unless one is a safe queen. This Model 10 is an example. New-in-box with the papers and tools. It fell into my lap for an excellent price but I already had a Model 10 'shooter' so no real reason to wear the finish.

If a historical gun is rare or becoming hard to find, buying multiples of the same gun may make sense as an investment. A person may also enjoy collecting different variations of the same firearm. This is different than buying redundantly, such as a guy who owns multiple russian 91/30s.
For example, I own 4 different variations of the mosin and 4 different SKS rifles from different countries. I also live in a ban state so stocking up on a few sks's ensures I will have a decent semi auto to enjoy decades from now since I can't buy any ak's.

If you can't get the band loose you may need to use a punch to push on the pin of the band spring. If it's not holding the band tightly enough you may need to use a vise to bow the spring slightly to increase the tension.

99% of the time the guns are just very similar, but slightly different. So like, an AK under folder, and a milled ak, and a stamped ak, all in x39. Even a maadi fixed stock and a yugo fixed stock. They're different *enough* that I wouldn't consider them the same gun.
But there's that 1% that I've definitely seen on here with multiple glock 17s, multiple entry level ARs, multiple mosins, multiple enfields, etc. Those people either cant pass up a good deal when they see one, or plan on arming their neighbors when SHTF.
