Finally have time on my hands again, will probably try and maintain 54R threads again.

(pic of prototype ratnik side folding variant of SVD-M, thicker barrel than the SVD-S)

Welcome to the best general.

Lets talk about:
nuggets
SVT-40s
PSLs
VEPRs
SVDs
etc

or just talk about guns you wish you had

Cheapest 54R ( $350 shipped a crate... FUCKING RIP):
http://www.unammo.com/#76

best price on a nugget (sadly):
http://www.southernohiogun.com/longguns/c-r-longguns/russian-mn91-30-762x54.html

Best price for the VEPR (20" model):

Oh thank god. I missed these threads.

/akg/ kept telling me to get a Vepr.

Flandre, is a PSL really that bad?
I just want one that looks like this
>>

VEPRs are solid 9/10 sporting rifles.
>>

>Cheapest 54R ( $350 shipped a crate... FUCKING RIP):

That's not the cheapest.
>>
https://www.classicfirearms.com/russian-7-62-x-54r-148-gr-fmjbt-ball-berdan-primed

300$ a crate or 150$ for a tin
>>
I like Vepr 54R but capacity scares me

I do not want it for sporting but for general purpose huntin and patrol and defemse.

Also I live in mD
i think vepr legal? Not sure
>>
>>29304343
I've heard that plenty, but I really want a PSL. I'm not looking to put 10k rounds through it, I don't care if it gets 1 MOA, I just want an AK in 7.62x54r that looks like an AK to a normie. I know a Vepr is an AK technically, but this actually looks like one.

that was the cheapest I was able to find after using a few differnet ammo finding sites. I see now that with shipping Classic has them for $340 a crate, so $10 cheaper. still sucks though
>>29304334

the Vepr is the more practical rifle.
PSL rifles have become so expensive now. One of their greatest draw backs is the fact that they are so overgassed and built for light ball ammunition. Feeding them the wrong ammo will eventually kill them.

The Vepr doesn't suffer from these issues, they are also much cheaper.

The Vepr is going to be more accurate as well, as they have a heavier barrel than the PSL. the PSL does suffer from a lot of barrel whip thanks to the pencil thin barrel. Many PSL rifles are also not factory, as many have been built on kits or with new U.S. made barrels. The Vepr will be 100% factory.

The Vepr will also be brand new with no wear, where as any PSL rifle you'll find will be on the used market.

From various sources, it appears that 54R also performs best out of a ~20" barrel, so getting the 20" vepr would be the best option.
>>
>>29304396
Ironwood does make a stock set for it. Even with this stock set, It'll be cheaper than a PSL

Haha, eat shit slavfag. 54r is going the way of 7n6 meanwhile 5.56 is cheap and plentiful as fuck and m855 still didn't get b&.
>>
>>29304481
and this folks, is the cancer of the gun community
>>
>>29304465
yes, actually you can up a standard AK grip onto the VEPR and use a standard stock using this adapter
https://www.legionusa.com/vepr-slant-to-square-stock-adapter-sgm.html

That will let you put on a standard AK stock onto your VEPR.

you can then use the Ironwood designs handguard or refinish the stock VEPR one.

If you really wanted the shorter barrel, there are 16" 54R veprs on the market as well.
>>
How would I turn a Vepr 54R into a SVD lookalike.

dressing the Vepr to look like an SVD is no different from dressing up an AK to look like an AR.

completely different rifles with completely different operation systems.

but if you really wanted to, ironwood designs makes a stockset like in >>29304438

The Soviet doctrine for the "Sniper role" is similar to the Western doctrine of the DMR.

The SVD was developed specifically to be accurate over a long distance while giving the operator the ability to shoot accurate shots in succession against a target or against many targets.

While you have hte parts and kits, could you test something for me? im wondering if a DP28 stock could fit the lower group of a DPM, aside from needing a bit of sanding to assure a fit, if nothing else than for muh aesthetics of the club stock if i could hold both up i could be sure, but i cant find a dp28 stock anywhere thats not like 70+$ bucks and i dont want to pay all that if i cant use it

My M91/30 has sticky bolt trying to open it after firing. I've read that this is because of spurs in chamber that catch on expanded brass.

I want to buy a moist nugget soon. Do you think that prices will ever be lower than in OPs link? It pisses me off that I didn't buy one a few years ago when they were readily available and under $150. What do you guys think?
>>
>>29304971
It really depends on what nugget you are looking for, your run of the mill 91/30, wartime production, not fantastic quality but it will still remove kraut will go for 150-200, depending on where you get it, anywhere up to 800, for a rarer model, i think finns are going for 4-500 on classic firearms...also they have nugget food :U for 150

Where???
>>
>>29305085
Deleted stock at wal mart, just had all four cases sitting on a cart marked 1$ or less, so i grabbed em all, plan on handing them out at knob creek this april
>>
>>29305059
After shipping, those cans are still pretty expensive compared to how I could get a can for $80-90 shipped last year
>>
>>29305059
Yeah, I'm looking for "fair" to "good" condition. Nothing too pretty. I just wonder if there's a temporary supply shortage and that more nugget crates will start showing up online. In OPs link the nugget, hand selected, will cost over $200 after shipping. Another $20 for an FFL transfer. I'm wondering if I wait it out a little if there's a chance I could grab one for around $150. When was the last time you've seen prices that low?
>>
>>29304765
Pretty positive they do. I'm not at home right now

>>29304883
Holy shit that's thick, looks like a SG-43 gasblock
>>
>>29305159
well, personally i got my nugget from the mosin crate, he is a pretty cool guy and takes lots of pictures of his individual pieces, if you wanna keep a lookout on his site, i got a nice, excellent condition bore, but kinda chewed up stock, all matching 91/30 ex dragoon for 200 before fees and 15 shipping i think, the first gun ever bought and i think like in the first 10 of the orders he took on that site
>>
>>29305198
Its meant to be thick to accomodate the higher fire rate that comes with being able to take 250 round belts and so on, gas block had to be made beefier too i suppose, i wonder if its still standard quick swap, or if its permanently mounted somehow
>>
if you guys like sitting around on gunbroker, you can still get mosins for under $150. sometimes even around $100
>>
>>29305159

>>29305261

Does 54r have any relevance today as a GPMG cartridge? Other than being cheap, what does it have to it? Also, how expensive is it to produce these days? Surplus dries up eventually.

>>
>>29305525
its been killing people since the 1890's and continues to do so today, so i'd think its still relevent, cant go wrong with a reliable extracting, cheap, steel core catridge, it penetrates light material, you can shoot through steel I beams with it, wood, brick, it does not give a fuck about, bone is an afterthought, it can be fairly accurate with the proper type of ammo, cant expect too much outta cheap surplus though

>>
>>29305900
Less than 200. Low demand and numbers along with the cold war contributed to the rarity of it in the states.
>>
>>29305867
it's due to the VRA.

Russia and the United states both agreed to regulate the importation of Russian firearms, and created a limited list of importable firearms from Russia. The SVT didn't make the list, as such, what was imported before the VRA went into effect was all that could ever be imported.

KO labled rifles are refub or re-built surplus rifles.

The SVDs re-sold through Molot are Izhevsk made. They are surplus rifles that are then refinished and re-sold.

The Mosins are re-barreled and refinished. The receivers are old stock, Izhevsk made surplus receivers.
