What would the ak47 be like if it was made for the 7.62x54 round instead of the x39 round?

As I'm paying for my targets (got a membership to this particular range, no time costs) the range-o was laughing about it. Told the guy "It's not a goddamned library, it's a firing range" and told me "I wish you'd have done a mad-minute."

Because I live innacity and the nearest open land (state, federal, etc) where I can legally shoot is an hour and then some away, and with reduced ratio targets, a 25 yard range is really just fine.

The Czechs sort of tried it, though in the Vz. 52 carbine. I have only seen a couple of the rifles still in that caliber, though the owners spoke highly of them.

Seriously, this. Why didn't 7.62x45 take off? There should have been an Ak battle rifle variant chambered in this, and x54r should have been the sniper round.

The Soviets put an end to it to ensure a common cartridge. Same thing with the Czechs trying to use 9x19 over 7.62x25.
It would have made an excellent cartridge for RPK-like weapons, being lighter than 7.62x54R and without the R.
