I got invited to go skeet shooting by some friends at work. Other than just shooting some at a range I've never done anything similar to it. Is there anything I should know so I don't look like a complete ass.

Everyone and their mother will tell you shoot both eyes open. I've found much better luck aiming normally with one eye closed.

Keep the action of the gun open and the gun unloaded until you get on the firing line. Don't aim at the pigeons, don't try and stop the shotgun on a pigeon, follow through your shots. Make sure you got the right choke in and are using 7.5-9 shot.

This.
To elaborate: lead the bird. Think space invaders, you don't shoot where it is, you shoot where it is going to be.
>>
Wait until the pigeon is launched before shooting at it.

But I've found this "shoot them as they roost" approach is much more effective on the skeet range... Why are skeet/trap people so fuddy?

Don't listen to this guy, both eyes open, even when shooting precision rifles.

Don't run into that little bunker and start blasting cases of clays. You'll get high score but you'll be escorted from the premises. And your co-workers will talk about you a bunch. Hoo boy, will they ever.

What type of gun do you own?

If a o/u always carry it broken

If an auto loader always carry action open and barrel up and slightly out front.(down range)

Lear the field pattern
Watch some nssf videos on you tube.

If you can hit 12/25 your first time oit good on you.

the other anons explained it pretty good. For some odd reason I was a natural the first time I went with some friends. I used my grandfather's old Fn browning light 12. Also if you use a semi auto only put one shell in it per shot. In my opinion the best time to shoot the pigeon is when it's stopped climbing and before it starts to fall. That sweet spot is where you can almost aim directly at it.

Hold infront of the house a bit, stay infront of the bird the whole time, adjust your lead in air.

Don't load until it's your turn. Mind your muzzle and your manners, have fun, there really isn't much to it.

This.

You're probably going to suck at first, but don't be a discouraged little faggot.

Once you get dialed in, it's like riding a bicycle. The hard part is having the patience and persistence to learn how to do it correctly.

At least that's where I see people fail.

until you have to shoot doubles, hitting both with one shell isn't technically legal.
>>
if you have an over-under or a semi auto, bring that. If not, anything but a single shot. Don't have too tight of chokes. Shot must be sizes 7.5, 8, or 9.

Have one of these, makes shooting trap outside of a facility pretty fun. Fucker is heavy though.
