I have a ptr91gi (pre "we got our shit together and put the fucking paddle release back on") with a bunch of surplus aluminum and steel 20 rounders. I hate shooting this gun because it double feeds/fails to feed/jams literally every 3-5 rounds. It's really annoying having to throw away 2+ rounds per mag because the bolt slammed into the case and deformed them. How do I fix or improve these shitty mags so my gun stops sucking all of the dick ever?
>>
what does it do with brass ammo?
>>
>>29228162
Same
Steel or brass
>>
Bump for halp
>>
>>29228537
Hmmmm how beat up is your main spring? What kind of error specifically is it because in your op you list 3 different issues... If it's all of them then it's time to trade that piece of shit in.
>>
>>29228154
>buy 10 more mags
>throw out the ones that dont work
theyre 5 dollars each
>>
>>29228581
Main spring like for the bolt carrier? It's fine, I bought the gun brand new. It generally runs through the top ~10 rounds fine then starts failing on the second half of the mag so its got to be a mag issue

>>29228606
I had 10 steels and 20 aluminums. I now have 6 steels and 13 aluminums from tossing the bad ones. There are still more shitty ones to be tossed. I'd rather stop literally gambling and throwing away money and just try to fix the problem.
>>
Bump
Come on, is wasting money really the only way to fix this?
>>
>>29229248
buy good magazines
factory new not surplus crap

or vet the mags you have now mark em somehow and if the mag fails toss it

I bought a lot of 7 aluminum HK mags and one will deliver the results you are describing. The answer is buy more mags, and make sure they are german manufacture. I used to have the same problem with shitty mags. It is not the rifle. Don't waste any more ammo and buy new mags.

This; FALs don't jam.
>>
>>29228154
Issues like this can also stem from bad bolt-gap. Get a set of feeler gauges and check to see if your bolt-gap is within spec. The in-spec range is 0.004 - 0.020 in.

I would send it back to PTR for repairs if I were you, but if that's not an option, buying over-sized rollers can alleviate the issue.
>>
>>29228154
>FTF/DF/Jamming
Bolt gap or your mainspring is fucked up.

I've bought about 36 of those mags and none of them have given me trouble. Get yourself some feeleer gauges and take pictures, report back.

not my FAL
>>
hmmmm.......I've never had a jam in my CAI Cetme in over 1600rnds, and I only have surplus aluminum mags from the mid-60's.

but that's none of my business.

to be fair though, I bought like 10 of them at once for $20 bucks with pouches(online deal at the time) and I ended up tossing 4 of them just based on visual inspection alone. the rest have given me absolutely ZERO problems. even if they are well worn and from the 60's. ran great with a registered sear. But I would recommend TRYING to buy new aluminum or steel magazines if at all possible, OR buy surplus mags onsite(I.E. at a gun show or something). I wouldn't recommend getting any from royal tiger though. that's were I got mine from. and only half the pouches were in DECENT shape. 3 of them were well past their service life and were so worn out and faded, they wouldn't pass inspection if they were still in service.

He's probably talking about aluminum G3 mags. G3 mags can be used on CETME rifles with some minor fitting.

and with some major jamming over half the time

Sell the rifle
>>
>>29232569
that was with the earlier CAI Cetme rifles. that hasn't been the case in something like 10 years+. Mine is from about three years ago.so it has the HK style receiver instead of the Cetme receiver. So, the newer ones take G3 mags directly without fitting.
>>
>>29232588
Yeah, you can fix that. I did.

you'll need to get an F/A fire control group housing(not the trigger frame).

weld over the hole for the sear and re-drill it further back towards the trigger. use you S/A housing as an overlay to mark the new hole. NEXT you have to notch the front of the housing to fit the BATFE shelf.

It takes some work but that's because of fucking BATFE messing up the original design.

no semi auto shelf?

cant you just drop in a FA trigger pack?
>>
>>29233758
Nah, there are some design differences, like the lower trigger housing for one, and the part just behind the magwell. simply put, there isnt enough room to just drop a FA triggerpack in a PTR lower.
>>
>>29233928
um.........you sure about that?

quite. Also on the bolt itself, there is no catch for FA functionality.

pic related, in a FA bolt, this is filled in. for the Semi auto Civvy models, this is as shown so it cant catch on the FA or burst catches for a millspec trigger pack.

if it there wasnt all of this to prevent easy FA conversions, do you think they would sell full G3 lowers with FA capability for $60?

That is not a stamped receiver. Looks like one of those cast receiver trash.

Nice try

none of these are hard problem to solve

it literally takes just a dremel, jb weld, and an FA bolt group to make everything work

>>
>>29237858
I'll take your word for it, I know nothing of custom fitting for firearms.
>>
on a slightly unrelated note, how do I properly clean the chamber of my PTR?
>>
>>29238017
PTR recommends a .45 cal bore brush, but I've found the bore brush that came with a Glock to work perfectly fine as well.
>>
>>29238038
Thanks. what about the area just behind the chamber? Tends to get a lot of carbon buildup in my gun there.
>>
>>29237858
if you know what you're doing and actually HAVE patience, you don't need JB weld at all. It's called fitting the frame to the shelf. you remove a little metal at a time until you have a perfect fit.

>>29237463
I was talking about the FCG frame fitting into the housing. last I knew PTR liked to use surplus trigger housing's for their G.I. models.

people will tend to get the F/A lower assemblies, remove the trip, relocate the sear pin hole to the S/A location and weld up the original sear pin hole, then fit the frame/housing to the gun. 100% legal just as long as the original sear pin hole is welded up and the trip is removed.

>>29237867
you should learn. seriously. It's a valuable skill to have. I saved $300 by installing a paddle mag release to my Cetme. And I did a medium trigger job myself as well.

>>29237531
but he is right. It's pretty much childs play. from 1-5. 1 being easiest and 5 being CNC required, this is a 1.5 job. takes about an hour or less to do.
>>
>>29238156
I usually just wipe it down with a paper towel really well until there isn't much coming out. If you have sausage fingers however, a chamber face brush may work better for you.
>>
>>29228154
Magazine related.
if not than gas adjusted reason.
>>
>>29238331
The G3 platform doesn't have a gas system.
