So what exactly is wrong with an R700 chambered in 30-06?
I always hear a lot of shit talk about Remington but why is that so? I haven't really used any of their guns as I typically use slavshit for everything. I want a newer rifle I don't have to worry about getting dirty and I don't know why the R700 would be bad for this.
What other platforms should I look at for a reliable bolt action 30-06?
>inb4 fudd
No.

Only their absolute shit quality control and the fact that the corporation that owns them is ran by anti funs joos.
>>
>M1 Garand
>>
>>29194839
The old ones are great
>>
>>29194851
So what would be a better alternative? Savage?
I don't know Shit about modern manufacturers. Like I said I typically stick to older / collectable Shit. I need something actually practical
>>
>>29194839

They're owned by a conglomerate named Cerberus that gives 0 shits about how their products perform as long as they get their money from you. pre-2000 centerfire bolt rifles from Remington are good to go though, and a lot of times, cheaper than new ones for a higher quality product.
>>
>>29194839
Howa 1500 call it a day. Mine shoots .75 moa with cheap federal fusion 150gr hunting ammo
>>
>>29194839
They rust like it's their fucking job. I worked in a gun store and they literally rusted on the shelves. No other guns had this problem. Well, besides Ruger, and Kimber.
>>
>>29194876
Intriguing. What do they run for?
>>
>>29194867
I've heard good things about the Ruger American rifle.
>>
Remington 788
>>

CZ 557, Savage Axis, Tikka T3, Ruger American, Browning X-Bolt

Any of those

I work in a gun store also. The only remingtons not like that are the versa max's. I've wiped surface that of of almost every remington I've handed somebody. The 1187's are the worst. The bolt feels like it's coated in sand paper and every time I pick up the gun to show somebody you can seriously smell the rust on it while you're handling it.
>>
>>29194923
I've always kind of wondered about their rifles. They always run for really low prices so I've been wary.
>>
rem qc is meh-to-bad for the last decade
i suggest a sako or montana rifle co
>>
>>29194877
>>29194932

There was an issue with Remington where they didn't properly wash the bluing salts out of their 870 barrels for a couple batches, leading to early rust. It could have been a similar problem for their 700s.
>>
>>29194941
They feel kinda cheap but they work.
>>
I have a 770 in 30-06.

Been one year and the exterior of the barrel is rusting. Never been outside in the rain, kept inside in hard case when not in use,
>>
>>29195006
After removing the active rust, try wiping the barrel down with Ballistol. That will hopefully neutralize the bluing salts.
>>
>>29194932
Not even close. Plus, like I said, no other guns had this problem. If you have to baby a gun to keep it from rusting, then the finish is shit.

I have heard the barreled action for the 700P/SPS Varmint comes from another line and that they have not been impacted by the Cerberus buyout.

Can't find any proof of this or any bad reviews, is this meme tier?

Stop being a faggot and get a Savage model 10, a Tikka T3, CZ557, or a Howa 1500.

Ugh this thread again. Nothing is wrong with Remington. These poor cunts just are angy that a rifle would cost $1000+ when they got their mosin for under $200. Jealousy creates animosity.

I have a Ruger too, and a Winchester... I much prefer my Remington and use it exclusively when hunting. I use the other two as loaners.

I own a 700 in 30-06. It hasn't rusted yet, been about two years now.

I had an R700 SPS with that heavy varmint barrel in .243 and I found it left a lot to be desired accuracy wise. Grouped around 1.1-1.2 MOA with Hornady SST's. I traded it

Remington is shit qc
Had a remington 700 that shot by itself when the safety was turned off.

Remington based question
Are the sps tacticals accurate? I know the stock should be replaced because it isn't free float but besides that.

I'm either going with an sps tactical or a savage 10p-sr in 20" which is hard to find so might have to go with the Remington
>>
>>29195471
Older Remis are great. It looks like that's what you have.

Everything you described was state of the art and perfectly acceptable 30 years ago.

This is 2016... Do yourself a favor and go get a savage 10 or ruger precision rifle in a modern caliber like 6.5creed or even .308.
>inb4 hurrr durrrr my '06 been killin Nazis ain't never dun dat with a creedwhore
We're shooting paper or hide not Nazis.

My personal foray in the Remington world consist of a 7mmrm sendaro that couldn't group better than 1moa, my XR100 custom which is awesome, and a .338lm SPS+ that was a $1400 waste considering one off my $1000 savages outshot it at 600. Traded each one except for the xr which is now my open sight rifle.
>Remington is good if you buy before 2003 production date

Remington has awful QA problems these days. Even their ammunition is questionable. Please don't.

An older used one is fine, however.

I just bought 15 rounds of Remington 2.75in buckshot and another 15 rounds of 2.75in slugs.

Should I be worried at all?
>>
>>29195622
Please explain with your years of hands on experience how Remington magically fixed its common QC issues.
>>29195660
No, Remington's ammo is mostly made in Arkansas under what was the DuPont team. It's decent ammo but far from match grade.
Most Remington factory ammo sucks because they're using outdated loads on worn out machinery. They've been making the same 30/06 for 50+ years, think those dies hold a nice tight tolerance?
>>
>>29195397
Listen up bitch. I was asking for what reason I shouldent get one, not making any argument as to why I should. Obviously ive heard some sort of rumor about them being bad but for what reason I did not know. I simply wanted to know what decent alternatives to a simple, rugged, bolt action system similar in build NOT quality to said rifle would be.
I obviously have no specific affinity for Remington as I don't even own any of their products as it is. So please if your reading comprehension is less that that of the average 6th grader please fuck off back to /b/
>>
>>29195688
Please cite any evidence that there are QC issues. If I can't use my anecdotal account to support Remington, you can't use conjecture to condemn them.
>>
>>29194839
Haven't R700s for the past 60 years or so had some fault in the trigger group that allowed the rifle to discharge without user input, but Remington only recently owned up to it?
>>
>>29195484

Not the same action. Looking at the 26" heavy contour in .223/.300WM/.308 only. These are available in the 700P and SPS Varmit.

Reviews as late as 2014 puts them in the .5 MOA range. Not really clear if the rifles marketed to LEO have survived the reported lower quality that the rumor mill reports.
>>
remigton? buy a mauser
>>
>>29195752
Bro I don't know this is why I'm asking about them
>>
>>29196475
Yes. Their QC under Cerebus has been horrible. Five minutes on Google will verify this. Start with the R51 debacle and go from there. This is not fashionable hatred of a company-meme like Glock haters or Ruger haters. Rem's quality has genuinely, dismayingly gone to shit. Deal.
