Looking at either getting a Makarov or Tokarev. Which one is a better buy/what is the major difference?
>>
>>29173208
the Tokarev is awesome but it's not a safe/practical carry gun

get a Makarov

Go with the mak. Ammo is cheaper so you'll spend less money in the long run.

C) CZ 82

They're pretty great and double stack. Other major improvements as well.

I second this. Highly recommended.

if you buy a CZ82 be prepared to do your own gunsmithing

i carry one and love it, but you are on your own if you buy one of these
>>
>>29173216
This. I mean, I fucking love Toks. But unless you go for a Zastava M57AA for that proper working safety (and one more round), it's just not an ideal carry gun-and this is from someone who carries a Tok every day because I can't afford anything better. Its real advantages are how light and thin it is, but unless you REALLY like Toks and can get over the low capacity, size for said capacity, shit sights, mostly outdated round, lack of any real safety, and odd ergos, then chances are, there's something better out there.
>>
>>29173216
Why are Toks unsafe?
I don't know anything about them.
>>
>>29173622
Wow. Thats all i can say is wow.
>>
>>29173622
That's really not as complicated as it looks.
Modern safety features so you don't blow your balls off, and other improvements make for a few more parts and pins.

I just want to say thank you for being literally the only person on /k/ who can separate their personal taste from practicality in conversation.

You're a saint.

For starters, import requirements dictated that original Tokarevs imported into the US required a safety, which they lack. So often importers would install a dubious, shit safety that would simply block the trigger or something. It's really not safe to trust these, and often the buyer would just remove them.
The Tokarev's only "safety" is the half-cock, which does lock everything up, but wether or not it's any more "safe" is up for debate. As a result, most people carry in Condition 3.
HOWEVER, the new Zastava Toks have a proper slide safety, like a Beretta, and it blocks the hammer/sear/etc. So it can safely be carried in Condition 1.

Makarov's safety is also a decocked and firing pin block.

Making it perfectly safe to carry chambered.
>>
>>29174129
>>29173796
Sorry, I forgot to mention that Toks aren't really drop-safe. Some argue that dropping the gun on the hammer, even on half-cock, could cause the gun to go off if a round is chambered.

>>29173758
Do you own a tt33 or an m57. I'm working on a project and I need to get in touch with someone who has and uses a tt33.
>>
>>29173283
I have the chance to pick one up for $300. Good condition with some holster wear. I feel like thats a very fair price, but what is the market value for these cz 82s?
>>
>>29174625
I bought the nice one on the right for $300 last night, with a box of 50 steel cased, and a sticky holster. It's a fair price.
The other two I picked up for $500, plus 850 rounds of plinking ammo, and 150 rounds of Hornaday defensive rounds.

That deal for dubs at $500 was a steal. The ammo alone is worth around $300.

If the mag drops free when you press the release, and the gun is in good shape, I'd buy it.
>>
>>29174625
Oh, and new manufacture CZ 83s in .380acp are selling for $450+, and fire a shittier round.

Search nationwide on armslist, gunbroker, and google. That will give you an idea on price. You'll feel bad when you see old out of stock links from years ago when they were going for under $200.
They were selling for $300-$330 when the surplus dried up.
>>
>>29174710
And if it doesn't drop free, what does that indicate and what would it take fix it?
>>
>>29174772
Some of them have a problem with the fitment. I googled about them to learn more. Some people say over tightening the grips contributes, a rubber o-ring is a good idea on the grip screws to keep from having to over tighten, and keeps the grips firmly in place.

Some people took theirs all the way down and used an emory board to smooth things down, and installed a new spring in the mag release.

Out of the three I own, one of them has a sticky mag release I intend to remedy. It is stamped as a 1990 manufacture, the other two say '87 and they drop the mag free with no issues.

I'm thinking of making a project out of the 1990, and seeing if I can manage to blue it. I want to make slim bone grips too, and maybe do something to extend the mag release button.

You can pretty much buy every spare part for these guns online.
>>
I'm thinking of buying a makarov soon when I turn 21. Its not bad for CC right? I've seen some guys with it in EDC threads but never bothered asking.

Are you fookin takin a piss?
>>

Part #42 can go suck a horsecock and die.
>>
>>29175698
Part #46 is by far the worst design decision ever committed. I understand wanting a European mag release and ambi is nice, but nothing makes up for that shit.
>>
>>29177992
Yeah, that clamshell shit for the mag release mechanism is hilariously unnecessary and gets gunked up if you so much as look at it intensely. Then again, the whole fucking pistol is a testament to over-engineering, so I guess it's appropriate. If it weren't for the CZ-75, I'd say CZUB's record with pistols was complete dogshit.

>#42 can still lick my sack, who the fuck seats a retaining spring for a slide release into a goddamned FCG pin?
>>
>>29174919
It's not great but not bad. My buddy used to CC one because it was a step up from the P.08 he carried. He now carries a P229 but still has the Makarov in his kitchen drawer.

It's single stack and thin enough, double action, decocker/safety. I mean there are worse choices, 9x18 Mak is a little underpowered but better than .380 ACP.

TL:DR
There are guns that do a better job due to size, weight, caliber, capacity, etc. but none in the Makarov's price range.

This.

Mmm... My favorite LGS got in a TT-30 once, but a grand was hard to swallow for a tokarev, even a collectible.
>>
>>29173208
They're cheap enough that you should just get both.

Yeah I 3d printed extended baseplates for my m57 and I want to get in contact with someone who has a tt33 so I can see if they work for original toks too.
