I have a chance to trade $425 of gun and cash for an older Aimpoint CompML with a killflash on a GG&G cantilever mount,
Is this a good deal? Its an older red dot that doesn't have the eternal battery life of later models. Should I just spend a few more shekels and get a newer one?
Aimpoints are shit. If you want a red dot find something designed/sold on the civilian market.

If you shop around you can find a Trijicon MRO for that. It's far lighter and smaller that that older Aimpoint, and is on par with a T-2 spec wise.

Buying used optics, or new ones for that matter, on EBay is a major gamble. That place is chock full of fakes. There are reputable sellers, but do your research.

Nope. Aimpoints are literally the best on the market.
Trijicon and mepro's fiber optic dual illumination has no brightness adjust and therefore suck
Eotech has tons of problems with shifting zero
Vortex, primary arms, and holosun just make aimpoint clones.
Leupold sucks
Burris fastfire and doctor sights as well as battery powered trijicon rmr makes a decent backup or piggyback sights, but not good for primary use
Finally, OP, that is a terrible deal. A comp m2 isn't nearly as good as an m4 or even a PRO. You can get a pro new for that price, and thats for an old beat up surplus m2.

OP, terrible deal. An aimpoint pro goes new for that price, and comp m4s drop that low on eBay. Most of the m4s will be "misplaced" military surplus, just like the m2. But the m4 and t2 have the crispest dots in the whole series, and the m4 has the longest battery life, runs off a AA, and is the strongest construction.
When I have to give the t1 back, I'm really balancing between the new pro or used comp m4

Not even close. Even ignoring the battery contacts issue, the glass and dot are not on the same level. There's a decent fish eye effect caused by the lenses too. I dislike the micro t1, and I've been using it on my rifle for months. But I'd much rather have a t1 over an mro.

The only AR of mine that's currently wearing an optic right now has an RMR.
I'd take a Primary Arms or Holosun over an MRO, though. Or, obviously, an RMR.

I own 3 aimpoints and yes there are Chinese knock offs but the seller always puts this in the description. Plus the eBay money back guarantee is a plus if the seller ships you a fake one.
To me is worth the savings, plus I don't always want to pay for a "new" sight price when I can get an aimpoint at a steep discount.
even with the mount that's too much for a compML. only if you absolutely wanted to get rid of whatever gun you were trading for that price. $50 less is going price, and preferably even less than that

and actually the prices I were looking at were for a ML2 so a ML1 is going to be even cheaper
$250-300 for a ML2 and the GG&G is $75 or so
if you really want you can even argue "ebay takes 10% so we can cut the price even more" since you're not going through ebay
Had an aimpoint my m4, I really liked it. But I don't know if I would ever pay that much for a red dot. Vortex is making some pretty bitchin red dots. They might not be able to take the beating a aimpoint can but they do have lifetime warranty on all of their products
