For those of you who have gone to firearms courses, what is the weirdest setup you've seen?

I'm guessing most people show up with an ar15 and a glock maybe a sig.

But, what else have you guys seen?
>>
>>29114403
Rich asian guy did a 3-day tactical carbine course with a Nemo .300wm AR and a Taurus .454 revolver.
>naturally the Nemo had a fucking Nightforce 5-25x56 on it because asians are racially addicted to inappropriately high magnification optics

He actually completed the course, with all ~1600 rounds fired. Guy fired more in ammo than anyone else's rifle was worth.

Saw running a VLTOR AUG A3 and a Five-seveN. Spoke with a very strange accent, sounded half Cajun half Australian. He said he was a native South African who served in the ADF, and does private security now because all he knows how to do is hurt people, never made it past grade 7. Claimed to do some "nasdy buidness in central Afrika"

None of it made sense but for some reason I believed him.
>>
Holy shit, that's expensive. Funny, but expensive. Would have loved to see that
>>
>>29114456
I always wondered how they did proper magazine changes for AUG's
>>
Guy wearing a chicom chest rig, ar15 with an acog, and an African dashiki. Had horrible aim despite using an optic that cost almost twice his rifle.

Fat bottomed gal showed up with a Sig in 10mm and a suppressor. We nicknamed her "Fanny Oakley" she couldn't hit her ass with a shovel.
>>
>>29114424
Going the other direction this time.
>tactical precision match (yeah I know not a course)
>everybody shows up with R700's and Savage 10's
>except one guy
>this one guy had a PSA-build SBR'd 12" 6.5 grendel, wearing a Nightforce ATACR I don't know the magnification of and a Thunder Beast suppressor
>hit every target all the way out to 800m, which is the furthest we shot at
>bullet had almost no energy by the time it got there but he still hit them all
Dude knew his shit and I was extremely impressed.
>>
>>29114403

Saw someone who drilled a hole in the foregrip of a marlin 45-70 lever action to put a bipod on.

Cringy to me, impractical as he had to shift a bit to work the lever. However you know how it is, a person likes very certain things and will do whatever it takes to mash those certain affections together.
>>
>>29114403

>My gun knowledge is limited to call of duty
>you have a main weapon and sidearm

You are now aware US Infantryman only carry a rifle and not a sidearm. Pistols are for pogs and staff NCOs.
>>
>>29114666
and machine gunners.

And SDM's who carry something other than an M16A4.

And snipers.

All of which are infantrymen normally.
>>

>and machine gunners

Lol nope. Who you trying to fool kid?

>combat carbine course in AZ

>other than being a little slow did extremely well, guy was a hell of a shot
Still 99% positive it was an off-duty instructor trolling us.
>>
>>29114696
All of our 240 gunners carried an M9.
>inb4 show proofs of cervix
>>
>>29114509
You can't, once your mag runs out you have to switch to your sidearm. To fill it up you send it back to the manufacturer.
>>
>>29114718
wow I didn't know HK made the AUG!
>>
>>29114696
Not him but my platoon was issued sidearms at the request of our RO, and most of us carried them. Your statement is technically correct though. Most infantry do not carry sidearms, but we did because we were a very proactive combat unit. Many of us also carried AP/AS M136 launchers on maneuvers.
>>
>>29114715

>internet lies

Show proof of cervix. Cuz that didn't happen.
>>
>>29114732

Well shit. I guess your Army big budget allows for that. Not in the muhreens.
>>
>>29114533
You're supposed to keep your eyes on the enemy at all times and NEVER EVER bring your rifle down from your shoulder, doing whatever this cretin is doing is going to get yourself killed. Bullpups are pretty much a flawed concept.
>>
>>29114666
OP specified COURSES. There is nothing in there to indicate his post has anything to do with the military.
>Most shooting courses seem to have a rifle to handgun transition part
You must have been a grunt that did nothing past his ONE enlistment
>>
>>29114757
you are aware that this video was made just to show how to reload the AUG right ?
>>
>>29114770

I was a 4 year grunt.

Our courses were either handgun or rifle specific.

I was a range coach for rifle. Qualled on pistol.

So yes I am naive to civilian courses. It just sounded call of duty like. The whole "backup sidearm" comes from vidya.
>>
>>29114666

Thats because the standard thinking is that your "backup" weapon is the weapons of your teammates. This is why you yell out when your misfire or are "black" on ammo, when you are reloading, etc. You let your team know because THEY are your backup.

Modern military doctrine know that soldiers run out of ammo and need to change mags, that weapons can jam, and train you to notify your team so they can cover you while you rectify the situation.

In a situation where you are alone you no longer have those extra rifles backing you up, so you need a secondary weapon.

Just because COD featured backup sidearms doesn't mean the idea of a sidearm is a bad idea.
>>
>>29114775
then some yuropoor general who never touched a gun in his life will make sure these practices are implemented, making his nato aligned country basically target practice for ivan.
>>
>>29114809
Op here. I did 9 years. Only held a m9 twice. Did tour tours in Iraq as a machine gunner, one of them as a anti-armor infantryman. every time I see references to advance shooting courses they always request a pistol. I've never been to one as there is none in my area of the country (at least that I know of). So I was just curious as to what people have seen.
>>
>>29114802
>Back side arm comes from vidya
Meh....movies really...but i get what you are saying.
Its still a good idea to have one though. As a POG whos job it is to go everywhere with the Infantry I had one, along with my two Specialists. We had to go into back rooms with shady as fuck local leaders and sit down for tea, so having a weapon that was less obvious was needed....also grunts liked to forget about us and leave us places.
>>
>>29114871
This true. My first time over we didn't have a medic for like 4months. When we finally got one we kept leaving him on base when we went on missions because we forgot we had him. Went on for almost a month straight.
>>
>>29114809

This is why I get pissed off.

I carried 9 mags and always at least had 1 left. The only reason I fired so many rounds was suppressive fire because sometimes you just couldn't tell where the shooter was.

They would run from building to building with a hammer, knock a whole in the wall and take a shot. Then wrap it all up in a blanket and run to another building.

Sometimes they would stash their rifle and walk around because they knew we weren't supposed to smoke unarmed people.

I would of shot one bitch I caught doing that, he ran out of a building and looked at us with his binos. My platoon CO was with us and yelled not to. Moments later my friend was almost killed.

But I digress. If you have a properly functioning rifle, all you need is ammo.
>>
>>29114896
Dude they left us EVERYWHERE on base, random COPs, FOBs and even in sector!
....then we fought next to them and it suddenly stopped happening.
But yeah having to walk a few miles back to base or running to catch up to the patrol fucking sucks and is scary as fuck with only three guys.
>>
>>29114961
Eh. Builds character, lol
>>
>>29114900
So you get pissed off because in your narrow scope of war YOU didnt need one.....hmmmmmm
>>
>>29114983
It also builds a wall of local kids to act as a sheild.
>Hey SPC give these kids that candy I gave you
>But Sarnt....they will follow is around if I do that
>Exactly!
>>
>>29114992
Instead of a backup weapon you could just carry more ammo
>>
>>29114696
Former USMC 0331 here. M9 issue confirmed for m240b gunners. Of course when I first got to the fleet we all (gunners) strapped m16a4s onto the side of our packs. We transitioned to M9s shortly before first deployment, but I did fucking Bridgeport hauling a musket and full mag load out as well as m240b with no patrol sling. Corps is broke as fuck yo.
>>
>>29114992

I did 2 deployments. Iraq/trashcanistan. Was in Operation Steel Curtain. If that's narrow to you congratulations seal team 6 guy.

>>29115031

Thus guy gets it

>>29115036

I was an 0311. None of our weapons guys carried a pistol that I recall. But I will yield my opinion if you say so.
>>
>>29114696
I'm with you brother. Although you should be aware you were fucked by your leadership as was I.

Carrying a goddamn machine gun just to grab food.
>>
I think this thread went way off topic. Too many people tripping balls over having a pistol and a rifle at the same time.
>>
>>29115385
It's only one person.

But yeah, that totally counts as "too many".

Fucking jarheads.
>>
>>29115385

I started it. My bad. Carry on I'm done.
>>
>>29114403
I haven't seen a lot of weird setups, but I want to go to my range wearing a stormtrooper armor, wielding a modded sterling.
>>
>>29115108
Is narrow because you prob did the same job both deployments vs doing different missions.
>Training local forces
>Establish relations with local leaders
>Encouraging militias to not support bad guys
>psyop/ca
>Psd
There are many missions where a pistol is a good weapon to have and where relying on other people is a bad plan. You dont have to be DEVGRU to know that.
>>
>>29115591

>prob

It's funny how keyboard warriors seem to be the experts on these things. Like you know what I did. Google the operational operation I mentioned.

Top lulz. Anyway I said I was done derailing OP's thread.

Gtfo with that shit faggot. No one cares here...or anywhere else for that matter. Do you think you are the only guy on here who went to Iraq and had to pull the trigger?
>Huurrrrrr I did this so it must be like this errrrr where
I am giving you shit specifically because you are using your narrow scope to tell others its pointless to carry two guns. Motherfucker I had both and it kept me alive because faggots like you cant be relied on to do your job unless you are actively being shot at.
>>
>>29115736

Being gay cost a penny?

No not at all was I the only trigger puller.

It's not like a game where you push a button and boom there's your sidearm 1 second later. If you need to switch on the fly it's too late. I took my broom in the room.

I'm convinced you dunno wtf you're talking about, but your anger does mildly amuse me. So proceed. Tell me more learned one.
>>
Friend of mine runs some tactical courses. One of his friends shot the pistol part with an Automag in .30 carbine.
>>
>idpa
>start in surrender behind cover?
>draw with strong arm and engage at t1-3
>switch to weak arm, engage t4-6.
>you will need to reload because muh division capacity, so switch back to strong arm, reload, then switch BACK to the weak arm and finish the string.

When I asked why we were doing this they said to simulate loss of use of one of your arms. When I asked how I was able to reload and keep changing which hand I was shooting from they harumph harumph harumphed me to the end of the list.

Thank God for uspsa. Just bullet hosery.
>>
>>29115108
0331 guy here. I think there's just variation between units when it comes to sidearms. I know that we were hauling rifles as backup weapons at first because the battalion or at least my company didn't have enough M9s to go around. It's my understanding that our Gunner (bursting bomb type) wanted us to have M9s in keeping with doctrine, so he made it happen. As an aside, respect for your deployments dude. I was with 1/4 from 08 to 12 and did 2 Pacific MEUS back to back so I never got to play in the sandbox. I always feel I should clarify because my opinion and experience is only weighted by training, not combat.
>>
>>29115780
Oh I understand now. Your fucking retarded.
>If you need to switch on the fly its too late
Maybe, but if you have a stove pipe and no one to cover you (because the grunts left you behind again) its good to have a side arm.
-or-
You have to enter and clear a tiny ass crawl space because hammad is either dead or waiting to fight
-Or-
Your meeting with the shady as fuck Sheik and you need a weapon that isnt going to tear up his table
-or-
Well you should get the idea by now.
What really pisses me off though, is that by your logic, we dont need grenades or a knife either. Hell why even take combatives then? Lets just give all the guys 500 rounds! Because there will never be a situation where you need a secondary weapon! The M-4 rifle NEVER EVER JAMS
>>
>>29117685

Whatever you say boss. I'm the grunt that left you behind. Because you're a potential casualty in a firefight.

I didn't have an m4 I had an m16, and no it never jammed once.
>>
fucking retarded milfags shit up yet another potentially good thread. I wish the government would have paid you to wash more rocks or shovel dirt or something to keep you occupied and off of /k/ forever.

Not going to lie, kinda cool!

BUT, is there any good way to change magazines that do not involve throwing the old on the ground? Maybe I'm just spoiled by AR's.

at least USPSA/IPSC is honest that it's a game.

also no gay vests.

fuck FTDR.
>>
>>29119048
What's FTDR?
>>
>>29119067

failure to do right.

aka the IDPA course director didn't like how you did it/thought you gamed it/weren't tactical enough and gives you a totally arbitary penalty that'll take you out of competition on that stage.
>>
>>29119105
Pretty gay, but I guess that shouldn't be unexpected. They kinda seem like they'd do that kind of shit. Every time I try to talk to anyone in the hirarchy for any kind of shooting sport, they give me the cold shoulder as soon as I say I have no idea where to begin for competition shooting and then they start treating me like some nogunz codfag kid. Really grinds my gears.
>>
>>29118366
Eat a snickers, you turn into a faggot when you're hungry.

Or salty that people with actual combat experience give their opinion.
>>
>>29119163

give USPSA a shot. tell them you're new and most places will welcome you with open arms.

even though everyone says you should start off in production, Limited will fit what you have better. yeah, you're not going to be competitive with the $2.5k .40 S&W 2011s with your minor Glock 17, but you're also spending a lot less... and let's be honest, you're probably not going to win anyway.
