New Deputy here and I get to Configure my Own Patrol Rifle. Only Limitation it can't be shit or lowquality tier and it has to be 5.56. Suppressors are legit and available. I will own the weapon and I have a trust. Side arm will be Glock 22 for now.

Budget? Size constraint? Required features?

i know LEOs get some leeway (some more than others) in weapon customization, but im surprised at the amount of freedom you get

Budget under 3000 for the upper/lower. Thanks Tax deduction. Constrained to AR-15/M4gery's.

Thought about it but as the sheriff Dept. we do cover ALOT of woods area. County is 1800 Square Miles Was thinking may a 13 or 14. 16 inch at max. Might carry a pumpstick in the Trunk.
>>
>>28871802
You'll want 1:7. Take a look at BCM, DD, KAC, LMT, and Noveske.

Lewis machine and Tool = Larue ?
>>
>>28871835
If you want a 16," the DD M4V_ rifles are excellent. BCM also makes some excellent uppers, and the KMR is extremely light if you want to save weight.

knew this would come up...Local guy(dept armorer) locked in the gun cage says no. Not quite sure why. Hence M4/AR-15 limitation.

This is my gat. It's a BCM lightweight upper with a KMR 15. I sold a DD upper to fund it since the RIS II on the DD made the gun very front-heavy.
>>
>>28871890
I like the low weight options. This will be in the car I should mention as well. Go bag in the Trunk.
>>
Cops don't use suppressors. Better focus on passing FTEP rookie. Your grammar sucks.
>>
>>28871793
Literally you could build the rest of the gun with PSA and Andersen's parts, the upper does all the work.

Better yet, just buy the whole rifle from one manufacturer and be done.

>>
>>28871927
Just don't put an eotech on it if it'll be sitting in a hot trunk. I got a good deal on the aimpoint micro on that rifle. The rail options are a matter of preference. The KMR will be the lightest by length, but you can't go wrong with DD, Geissele, or KAC stuff, either.

You aren't going to find anyone besides Noveske that makes production 13.7" barreled rifles. And they are pretty much unobtanium at this point.

Actually, you might have a real hard time finding anything decent right now, most distributors are sold out of a lot of shit.

Although, my lgs has 3, fucking 3 DD sbr mk18's that will never sell. go figure.
>>
My suggestions
1:7 twist
14.7 or 16 inch barrel
BCM DD or Noveske upper w/bcg
Lowers don't matter much, you pay for the roll mark.

I like. All my guns are quad rails. What is the actual difference between keymod and quad rails weight wise.

Not much. 8 ounces comparing like DD products. DONT buy some featherweight rail that will fail the first time you slam your rifle in your car's doorjamb.

Also keymod a shit, MLOK is where the future is headed.

Wasn't planning on it.
Weight I am used to as one of my other AR Builds(PRS stock/18" Heavy/PST 2-10 FFP MRAD) comes in at 12 pounds but I don't plan on carrying that around.
>>
>>28872164
You're vanilla, but not a tasty type of vanilla like vanilla bean or french vanilla. You're the type of vanilla that comes in a big tub that they use for grade school "ice cream socials" and tastes like high fructose corn syrup and milk substitute.

You're unable to make decisions for yourself about what you like or unwilling to do research to determine what is most applicable to your situation and posted a thread asking people to help you do something you should have been able to do yourself.

Apparently, all of your guns have quad rails. This absolutely screams "mall ninja" and no appreciation for variety, and also suggests you have historical firearms. If you do, and you decided to put quadrails on them, you're even worse.

You stated you have multiple AR builds, which is generally acceptable if you have a maximum of three: A long rifle, a carbine, and a retro build. One of these may be in .308, or you may have more if you have multiple retro builds.

You have an AR-15 (which was adopted because it was light, the SP1 weighed less than 6lbs empty) that weights 12lbs.

And I'm not even upset about it, I am just trying to show you the errors of your ways. Good luck not being such a terrible person.
>>
>>28871663
are you indoor or outdoor? Consider the range you want.

if youre indoor I would go with something shoot barrel and compact, if outside, go with full barrel AR.

Ah. I can see your point but your off a bit.
Only one Historical Firearm and it's a family piece handed down.

The 12#er was built for accuracy and has a bit of weight to it for purpose.

I pick the weapons I like because they fit my criteria instead of the Norm. IE my EDC is a Colt Delta Elite.

This thread was for a quick gathering of suggestions because the market is flooded with options and I have to have a complete Rifle Minus Accessories dedicated to my role. I can't piece things together as in the rest of my stuff.
IE two builds in play for 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmoor. I am pretty much a newer age guy and the only Bolt I have is cheapy 308.

Hope you have good day! Now Get off my lawn.

>>28872370
better yet get 2 uppers with different length barrels and optics, 1 for inside and 1 for outside, and carry both in the car, doesn't take long to swap uppers
>>
>>28872488
>carry both in the car
Loose AR Parts in a cruiser? Are you stupid or trolling?

>>28872370
>outside
Primarily local for the first year but after that more rural therefore outside.
>>
>>28871886
>not quite sure why
I'm assuming it'd be because of parts/mag interchangeability between officer's guns.

ie. some big ass firefight goes down and you have to slide your buddy a mag or your buddy has to grab one off an injured/dead person
>>
>>28872512

no keep it in a case in the trunk, are you stupid?

In car does not equal trunk as stated thats where the go bag is.

I don't want two uppers to begin with. As fast as it would be to switch between them, meaning stop the car, Get out(expose self to shit) swap, then engage???? To much Time wasted....

TLDR:NO TO TWO DIFFERENT UPPERS

Why work in such a slow area? Just wanted the steady work and paycheck? I'm testing for big cities and if that doesn't work out saying fuck it. Don't think I'd like a small dept.
>>
>>28872839
That would be nice.
>>28872846

The Main City has 800,000 in it. Dept Has 680 ish sworn officers. We have plenty to do.
>>

Career shift after getting burned out in Corporate America. Good Benefits (minus occasionally dealing the rifraf. Specifically went Sheriff's Deputy so I could still live in the city but at the same time not always in the city.
>>
You should try out a few different ARs with different features to get a feel for what you like and build from there.

Retractable buttstock and a barrel 16" or shorter would be a must in order to fit in the cruiser, but you can fill the rest in by trial and error.
>>
>>28873005
If you really want a suppressor I'd get a 14.5", ballistics do tend to suffer with the shorter 11" barrels. For most purposes a modern 14.5 or 16" barrel with a flat top and a monolithic rail or railed ff tube will do you good. They're not much more expensive than a traditional upper but the mudularity and accuracy boost are worth it.

Throw on some flip-up sights (or even the 45 degree RTS ones) and a decent 4x optic. Ideally a Leupold or Trijicon. The glass will probably be half your budget right there but good glass is always worth the extra dollar. Besides which I believe they have massive LEO discounts.

Also put a light on one of the side rails. Streamlight, surefire, whatever so long as it's at least 200 lumens and durable. You should expect to be able to use your rifle in the dark.
>>
>>28872873
Oh ok. Seemed like minus the one crackhead things were Mayberry or whatever the show was. Thats a decent size dept.
>>28872908
>burned out in Corporate America
Interesting choice. Thats cool though, my math teacher in HS left to become a Florida Trooper.

I've heard though Sheriffs depts are a little more loyal than PD in who they hangout to dry or how quickly. Comment?
