I bought one of these recently. Haven't taken a pic yet because I'm a lazy bastard. It's a bit thicker than I thought it would be, but it's got a decent taper. The factory edge is meh, definitely gonna need some work.

I don't own that knife, but Schrade's new stuff seems pretty decent. Like Condor, they seem to have discovered that there's a big market in between cheesy Chinkshit and moonsteel. I've been considering getting their BK2 knockoff just to see how it is.

This still does not excuse these knives costing $200 or more.

For that price I can get a nice fixed blade made from Damascus steel.

And before you say MUCH EDC, there are plenty of alternatives where I don't have to break bank.

I started buying last week and I have a short list on my phone, so this was just the first to catch my eye. It and the 940-1, but this one wasn't $260. I've got a spyderco pm2 in s35vn on the way and a preorder in for the s110v version. Probably going to grab a CF scaled benchmade once I'm done buying ammo for the month.

>>
>>28621418
Well if you want an auto, Spyderco isn't the most well-known brand in that area. Especially since the Autonomy is around $200, which is enough money to even get a cheaper Microtech.
But if you really like that one, you should find a store that carries one and try it out. I never tried that knife, but I've used one of that company's other automatic knives and the quality was pretty top-tier, felt as smooth as some of the Microtechs my local knife store carries. If you can't, just do whatever the hell you want. It's not shit.

If that's the kind of thing you're looking at get a Spyderco Paramilitary 2. It's been one of the most popular EDC pocket knives for the past few years and is about half the price of the one you posted.
>>
Why is the Persistence a hell of a lot cheaper than the Tenacious in the Tenacious lineup of knives? Wouldn't the top of the lone be the most expensive?
>>
>>28623297

I believe the top is the Resilience. The Persistence and Ambitious are both smaller than the Tenacious.

>For that price I can get a nice fixed blade made from Damascus steel.

bo, you can't. Besides, damascus is a gimmick. Modern powder steel eats damascus for breakfast, then shits it out the back.

And only the lower end models are made in PRC. Some are made in Jap, and the high end stuff comes out of Taichung. And yeah - I live in EU as well.

No, you don't need a high end knife when a 50 dollar kershaw will do just fine for edc. But if you think there is no benefit to get a high quality knife, or that your low end kershaw can match a 150 dollar knife from spy, BM, ZT or any other big name brand, cause "it's just a knife" then you are deluding yourself.

I've never been that crazy about the MPT, but I'm a huge fan of Chad Los Banos designs.

>>28620911
>>28621474
It's not that bad, it's just a specialized design. It's like the snubnose pistol of the knife world.

The shorter handle gives you less room to grip, but you get more blade in an easier to carry package.
>>
>>28621241
>costing $200 or more.
>For that price I can get a nice fixed blade made from Damascus steel.

The best made damascus is charged by the inch. You ain't getting the best damascus for $200.

If I was a cop and could get autos, I'd get the Autonomy because I want one.

H1 is for all intents and purposes rust-proof. It also performs extremely well when serrated. Bit of a learning curve to sharpening serrations, but once you can get your serrations factory-sharp (or sharper), there are very few tasks that you can't do with them that yo ucan do with a plain edge.

Finger grooves provide a very secure grip. They might get annoying if you're doing cutting stuff for a really long time, but I doubt that'd be a factor as a cop.

I like the wire clip because it's very unobtrusive when holding the knife and is pretty low profile, not that it matters for you.

The blade profile makes it difficult to accidentally stab somebody, which I would think is a plus as a first responder.

If you want to go plain edge, the Paramilitary 2 is a good choice. see >>28621980

The eponymous Spyderco Police was designed for cops and would be a solid choice.

The Ulize (pic related) was designed by a German cop and was recently discontinued, so you might be able to get it on sale.

Kiku knives are pretty cool. Expensive. I want one some day.

Fucking knifemakers need to acquire some damn sense. In the 2016 shotshow it's all about production knives with stupid ball bearings and prices over $300. Benchmade new catalog is full of axis-ball bearing-flippers, fucking hell.
Knifefags and youtubers need to get their shit together otherwise having a good knife will be almost impossible for someone who has other bills to pay.

>>
>>28631535
It's pretty fucking stupid, but Kershaw, crkt, coast, buck, and even a lot of chain stores house brands like bass pro's redhead are pretty good for their price point. And then SOG makes good folders for under a hundred as long as you avoid their plastic frames (they deform and lose rigidity)
>>
>>28631535
Really? First world problems eh?

There will always be a good selection of mid priced stuff in the BM range. Their knives are built to last decades. Don't like the expensive offerings? Don't buy them. Can't blame manufacturers for making what people are buying.
>>
>>28632148
>Their knives are built to last decades
No, primarily they're built for maximum profit and there's nothing wrong with that.
>>
>>28621418
You really don't want a serrated knife.
>>
>>28632359
Some are better value than others. The 14460 is God tier for $145. Mine is 8yrs old and gets used daily.
>>
>>28631528
If you want the looks and none of the cost, you can get knock offs on aliexpress.

But yeah, I'd love to own the real deal too, I've thought about getting one of the SOG collaborations since they're actually affordable.
