It's no secret that the ATF is staffed by a bunch of incompetent dickheads, but my old man (en ex LEO) told me about one time some ATF agents almost got him killed.

>Be my dad in 1989
>Clock in, get my assignment for the day, start my shift
>I have the paddy wagon today, I hop in with my partner and the day begins
>Get a call on the radio, it's my sergeant
>"Car 9, we got in touch with some feds that are going to case a house, they asked for a wagon and some guys in uniforms"
>Hell yeah, let's go.
>Meet up with the feds, they're both wearing jackets with ATF on the back
>Oh shit, here we go
>"Hey gents, thanks for the help, we have an interest in a guy in the area that's a part of one of the local biker gangs, we think that he way be in possession of automatic weapons and that he has intent to sell them, so we're going to poke around and see if we can't get anything out of him."
>"Alright, where does he live?"
> Fed points to the house in front of us "That one."
>jesusfuckingchrist.jpeg
>"So you mean to tell me that there may be a guy with automatic weapons in there, and we've been standing out front of his house in uniform for five minutes!?"
>ATF guy gets all flustered and says "well what do you think we should do officer?" (He put a lot of emphasis on the word officer)
>"Whatever, fuck this" I get my partner and we walk up to the house and knock on the door.
>Some old dude answers the door.
>"Good morning sir, does so and so live here?"
>Old man raises an eyebrow and says "Warrant?"
>"We don't have a warrant, we just wanted to-"
>"Then have a nice day gentlemen" old guy shuts the door. Probably was the guy's dad and was in the fold at one point as well.
> Walk back to the wagon, but not before chewing the ATF guy out.
>"Your lieutenant will hear about this" The ATF guy says
>"Yeah sure, blow me."
>Rest of he day goes smoothly

And that was when Dad learned first hand that the ATF ain't shit.
>>
>>28568280
ATF was especially shitty in 1989 since that year they also tightened the "sporting purpose" clause and banned over 40 sport guns from import because "muh assault weapons".
>>
>>28568280
No surprise there.

I wonder where they find those guys...

I would imagine they would kick down the door and make up lies to justify their forcibly being in your home.

It seems to me that police already have a hard time understanding "I don't consent to a vehicle search, especially if you have no warrant or plausible cause to search." I don't even want to imagine the attitude officers bring if they knock on your door for some reason. Especially how the police react if you decide to exercise your 4A right.

Has the bATF ever arrested and got a conviction for someone selling an actual automatic illegally?

Not just paper work crimes they made up.

>Is there any reason for the ATF is even exist?
Very little. At first they mostly were tax collectors. In that they busted illegal alcohol production that didn't pay taxes.

After the import tariffs were put on sugar and made it uneconomical to make moonshine from sugar they had to find something to do to justify their existence.

Enter the last 40 years of harassing firearm owners, creating criminals by paper work interpretations, retarded regulations and the murder of citizens for fun and budget.
>>
>>28570664

>illegal alcohol production that didn't pay taxes

You mean the people that already payed taxes on the grain and corn?

Now you pay taxes for the electricity used to distill, the workers pay, the gasoline to deliver the bottles, the water, etc etc etc

Reagan dropped a bomb when he said there were nearly 200 different taxes that went into a loaf of bread, accounting for 70% of market price.

>We've been socialist for decades, anon.

You are an idiot that doesn't know what the word socialism means.
Hint it's not having sales taxes, welfare, publicly paid for schooling or food stamps.
It's state ownership of some or all industry.

Further, we do have sales taxes so if you make a product that is transported you will have to pay a tax on your fuel for each sub part that was moved. It's not 70% of the price of something, even bread.

I also can't help but noting that while you claim a tax on bread you ignore the subsidies pay to farmers.
>>

>>
>>28570809

If don't pay taxes on your land, house, or business....

What do you think happens?

They take it from you.

That means you don't own it.

The government does.

So..... THAT'S SOCIALIST.

WE ARE A SOCIALIST NATION.

We don't own property, we rent it.

The state owns everything. Fuck the state, they have lied to me from day one.

the spectrum between fascism and anarchism is vast

using some socialist ideals, like public works (regardless of the existence of this idea before socialism was an ideal to encapsulate it) clearly produces a net benefit to society (hence the term socialism).

using capitalist ideals to generate funds to support such socialist agendas also has a very clear net benefit to society, as well as many murkier benefits.

part of the problem we see in our country today is the staunch mimicry of idealogues from yesterday, despite the messages having flawed premises

free your minds, be part of the solution

As a New York Shitty housing cop, I'm a little bit envious. The most that any of my jurisdiction has ever given me was rocks and used diapers, and the occasional gunshots thrown at me from 16 stories up, and I've never had endearing little old ladies accidentally growing pot on my beat either.

Why are people so insistent on making concealed carry so difficult to get in cities? There's already gun crime, would giving CCW's out to law abiding citizens worsen the problem?

Not surprised at all. Thank you sooooooo fucking much for protecting us from the terrifying marihuanas. Who knows what horrible things those marihuanas were going to do.

Welcome to New York where the police are all felons on the run! A piece of legislature actually made all police firearms illegal. It was corrected, but nobody got charged. Amazing double standards bro.
>>
>>28573553
On the flip side, you have shitbag cops whose eyes begin to gleam with visions of their future commendation bars and shiny detective shields when they run into CCWs. Hence, PA constables getting collared despite LEOSA, arrests for out of state CCWs at the 9/11 memorial, and recently a guy who got collared for having his CCW on him while driving through the big shitty, moving from one state where he had a CCW, to upstate New York, whose CCWs aren't recognized by the big shitty.

You probably have a lot more of those cops in the big shitty than you have ones who act like decent human beings now. There's a reason New York's Finest is always in italics - it's sarcasm.

>>
>>28573646
The children, why won't you think of them?
Actually, I think most people here have intensely negative associations with guns, since their only exposure to them is as tools of crime, and the city has gotten so cozy safe and gentrified that most don't see the need of being able to defend themselves. Besides, your rights end where their feelings begin.

>>28573653
I think that Gov Cuomo is only second to Mayor Deblowsio in how much the cops hate him. I haven't heard a single cop express an opinion that SAFE act was a good idea.
Thanks for painting me with your broad brush though, very fair and equitable of you.

I don't necessarily disagree with your sentiment though. Tyranny is that which is legal for the government yet illegal for the citizens and etc

>Two joints a felony

Thank your politicians for that one.
Over here it's a misdemeanor, that frankly, at least half my co-workers can't be assed to enforce since there's bigger fish to fry.

That said, I can't think of any states that put such a small amount as a felony, so part of me doubts that arrested for two joints is the full story.

No.

Besides, from my perspective everyone else has more explaining to do than me. I've seen some shit. That shit makes no sense. I want to know what the fuck it is.

Yes. It sucks but that's life. I'm just trying to give you some advice on getting your fun rights back. Hell you can even get a free consultation with an attorney to see what you need to do exactly.

Speaking of ATF, this happened recently, was kind of neat..

>Bought a DPMS Panther
>Totally crap, just sell it NIB for cost ($550) on Armslist
>Insist on going through FFL at my cost due to nature of firearm
>Get some bites, low ballers
>One guy offers me my asking price
>Insist on no FFL, says he's a Federal Agent
>Well, here goes nothing
>Meet in parking lot
>Guy's driving a brand new SUV
>Gets out with his 13 year old son
>Shows me his gov't ID, fucking ATF
>We laugh about Armslist rats
>tells me this gun is his sons first AR, just wants a beater
>Sell the gun, sign a BOS
>Wish all Armslist deals went that smooth

>>Hello ATF How are you?

I had a Fed team show up at my place of work for a field interview because I told my Doctor I was depressed once and had suicidal thoughts.

I asked them whether or not I'd be on a list, whether it would impact my ability to purchase guns, etc...they said no.

Of course, you must realize however that it is fully within the scope of a Federal Agent's job to lie if it feels it is in the best interest of fulfilling his objectives.
>>

Yeah I agree, however since I have since the incident purchased several guns, filed an ATF F1 and F4 for an SBR and Suppressor and had both approved, it appears I'm good to go.

As they were leaving, they seemed as upset for coming out as I was for them showing up.

Get rid of your own fucking shitbags. Don't push it off on citizens who have to put up with kicked-in doors, broken limbs, ransacked houses, thousands in lawyer and court fees, and endless harassment by the cop's buddies thereafter.
>>
>>28574299
That guy's job is probably to sit at his desk browsing Armslist and Gunbroker all day looking for people trying to sell unregistered SBRs and shit.
>>
>>28574349
>Why would you do that?

Because I thought he might help. Turns out he helped himself - he was so paranoid I would go out and do something and he would be made culpable that I said something that he called the Feds on me. Moreover what hurt more is he was a friend of the family. That night he asked to come to my house and hold on to my guns for my own safety.

Because he was a friend and because I wanted to prove I wasn't homicidal, I let this man into my house and handed him 4 fucking firearms - of which I had to sit and walk him through the fact that every one of them was unloaded and safe because he had never fucking operated one in his life.

He still called them. Still paranoid - more paranoid than me, even in my state back then. It was a life lesson for me.

>>28574350
>nevermind federal, it's all police types. cops, in general, are total assholes when they're on the job.

These guys were classic - straight out of a fucking movie. It was a very well-oiled two man team. One guy was the suit - ultra clean cut blue suit uniform with a silver chain lapel, legit FBI. The other guy was clearly plainclothes, would have totally blended in on the street with nothing to give him away.

They asked a litany of questions, to which I recounted everything leading up to the moment I decided to go to the Doc (ironically for a totally unrelated issue besides depression) down to the fucking minute. It seemed to satisfy them, but when I mentioned Cho, Lanza, Holmes, Sodini, etc in the conversation - they said, literally: "We don't know who any of those people are," which immediately made me realize that this conversation was not on the up-and-up: they would lie to get information if they wanted to.
>>
>>28574329

I know he's not a felon, or going to sell the gun in Mass or NY. I have a BOS, email evidence. He drove up in a 40K SUV, and had real government ID. The law doesn't require it; there is no reason at all to require an FFL. I am confident that gun will never be used in a crime.

FFL isn't required by my state but if I [unknowingly] contribute to crime due to my actions, I'm part of the problem. We have rights and all, but we also have responsibility.

>>28574405

That would be soooooo cool. Either way, he was a pretty cool guy. All the feds I've talked to are actually pretty cool.

Speaking of, if you ever run into a fed at a gun shop or something, ask them about 5.7x28. They fucking hate that shit.

>As they were leaving, they seemed as upset for coming out as I was for them showing up.

I bought a Mossberg 590A1 and didn't get stopped about a year or two after it happened, although go figure I never had a Semi-Auto rifle. Bought one the day Sandy Hook happened for the sole purpose of flipping it, and I made about $700 bucks speculating on it.

Besides that had:

CZ 75 SP-01
CZ 455 .17 HMR
Zastava M70 Boltgun
Rem 870 that I later dumped for the Mossberg

>>28574450
>did you get your guns back?

Eventually, yes, after somewhere around 6 months to a year. I didn't care very much. I thought the whole thing (holding the guns) was totally hilarious. If I wanted to die, I would not require a gun. People been killing themselves just fine for thousands of years before the invention of the firearm. Moreover had I wanted to execute a mass casualty attack, again, I would not require a firearm. People have also been committing murder for thousands of years without firearms - some of the worst mass attacks ever have been with just a strong arm and an axe in China.

I could go on a lot about the nature of mass casualty attacks because I spent a while trying to explain the obvious to people: guns don't kill people. People kill people. Weapons are just tools that help. Hammering a nail is as easy as grabbing a rock and swinging it. So is caving in someone's skull. This isn't psychopathy - this is just obvious fact. Look into history and you'll see that the most devastating mass attacks have always been against people who are totally defenseless - children and the elderly. A gun (on the part of the attacker) would have made little difference in those situations.

>>28574482
>I'm going to call the fbi and embarrass him at work.

If they had showed up at my house, it would have been much easier. Popping up at work caused kinds of stress I really don't care to re-live by explaining it again.

The biggest irony of the whole thing - despite the rest of the fucking story:

The Doc did all this because he was deadly afraid of me going off the handle and him being held vicariously liable for my actions, which would be filed on his medical malpractice insurance.

Lol of course, never went to him again. I saw him a few more times before he quit the group practice I was managing the insurance for. Played it plenty cool on the surface - there's nothing to gain by being overtly hostile towards him.

But no, I'm not doing him any fucking favors, or sending business his way, or much of anything. I hope he has a nice fucking life living with utter paranoia and stress every time a patient walks into his care and he ponders whether or not something is going to go wrong or someone's going to sue him. Because they will.

Since we're not talking names, I'll go ahead and mention too: he had a legit wrongful death claim against him for being the post-op care on a guy who had a hip transplant. He ordered some tests on the guy to see if the guy needed treatment to prevent a blood clot post surgery. He did not ensure that the tests were done over the course of 2 days post-op care, despite the fact that he did order them - he did not follow up and make sure they were done.

Guy died of a blood clot in the middle of the night about 36 hours post surgery. Insurance paid out about half a million dollars for his stupid ass being responsible as much as he was.

I don't need to do shit. He'll live in paranoia the rest of his goddamned life over another one of those being on his hands.

Dishonest fuck was taking money from taxpayers for work he wasn't doing.

I had an investigator request a bullshit Internal Affairs investigation on me for "tampering with evidence." He was butthurt because I called him out on being a lazy piece of ass that was cutting corners and lying on official documents.

No, because the cop has no legal authority to enter your home. Technically, if he forced his way in, it could be considered a home invasion, and could be met with force.

Wouldn't recommend it though, because it'd probably be spun against you.

>And your advice is to spend even more money?

Unfortunately that's how the system is built.

It's purposefully made to be a fuck barrel for anyone who isn't wealthy. But most people don't think they have any chance of ever getting fucked over so they say it's just murderous rapists and drug kingpins that ever even have to talk to a cop and shrug it off.

my dad was a federal prosecutor, bought his weed from the marshals and thought that postal inspectors were the only LEOs that acted in a professional manner.

Also, everyone hated Giuliani.

Pic related

uncle now swears hes on a watch list for buying that much ammo, not to mention this was the day before that shooting in ca

I couldn't help to think that it would have turned out like the drug deal in Lethal Weapon

>Why was that ever brought up?

SSRIs being a common factor.

I forgot if they asked about scrips, but I did tell them specifically I didn't get any scripts from the Doc because I didn't want anything impairing my judgement - particularly when my job called for me to exercise good judgement. I couldn't take the risk of walking around like a zombie, or worse, becoming like another Lanza / Cho / etc...

Keep in mind that the government does not care if you quietly off yourself in some private or secluded place. If the government gave even a single chit about that, mental health would function much more differently in this country.

The reason they showed up in the first place was obvious. It wasn't to stop me from killing myself. The FBI doesn't show up at your place of business and interrogate you for 2 hours because they're concerned you might shoot yourself. The FBI shows up because a medical professional gets spooked and doesn't want the possibility of said suicidal person killing someone else during the suicide and then getting blamed for not stopping you after knowing you were suicidal - so they tell the Fed you're a "potential threat to others."

More simply put: The Feds are there to stop a crime from being committed before it is committed - specifically murder. However, they cannot charge you with murder you haven't committed. They can hit you with conspiracy to commit murder if they can produce enough evidence, and I'm guessing the scope of the intended murder would determine whether or not said charge qualifies for felony status. I'm also guessing the testimony of a single pants-shitting Doc is not enough to convict you in a criminal trial.

Either way, it should be fully understood (and even I understood as soon as they arrived) that the government and law enforcement could not give a single fuck about stopping your suicide. If they do, the only reason they do is to prevent collateral damage to others or property.

>SUV rolls up, asks me if I have cell service because a truck had rolled down a cliff and a person was seen walking away
>Well fuck, grab trauma kit, flares, blankets and line from my emergency kit and jump in the SUV while calling 911
>Report it to the NPS, jump out at the crash
>Truck half hanging off cliff and only held on by a half snapped tree
>No one in sight - tell the SUV driver to go down the road and find that guy they saw, leave my phone with them
>Passenger door open over cliff edge - start calling out and looking for survivors if they had fallen
>Up rolls the ranger, jumps out hand on hip, tells me not to move, hands out
>Well fuck - he thinks I'm the driver
>Asks if I'm carrying multiple times, tells me he knows that's a ccw jacket - he has one just like it
>Finally gets confirmation that I was the one that called it in and gives me a pat down
>Tells me he won't let me walk the mile back up to my car - too icy
>Go to the back of the rangers tahoe - well fuck - perp grade bench
>Ranger tells me to get in the front
>Nice and warm, right next to the unsecured AR and shotgun.
>Eyefuck them for the half hour it takes him to get firetrucks out to take over the scene, search the truck once they pull it back on the road
>Finds an open bottle of vodka, beer bottles and a big bag of weed in the truck cab
>Finally drops me and my gear off at the Tunnel view parking lot
>Police and fire truck lights fuck up my photos for the next 2 hours till they get that fucker towed

>Open a window, and ask why they're on your property. If they don't have a warrant, tell them to leave. If they don't, call 911 and say men with guns are illegally on your property.
I did that in 1990, in Rocky Hill, CT. The State police wanted to talk to me about a friend of mine. I didn't want to talk to them, and they refused to leave. When the town cops showed up, EVERYONE was mad at me. But since my call was in the system, the cops had to make the Staties leave. Glorious.

Except in a lot of ways, I sympathize with the anon, as the mental health system in the USA is crap. And not really because of the system, but those who practice are terrible people by virtue of being scum or ineptitude. While I'm only a pharmacy student, and have tried to seek some therapy before, I've only felt contempt for those that practice psychological health. Most seem to either really suck at their job or push pills, and those that may actually be good at their job are never heard of.

It really comes to no surprise that also a lot of vets are wary of professional help, as the professionals seem to be more likely to cause more mental anguish and act against the patient. It also doesn't help that a lot of mental health workers also fall into the political camp that despises funs.
