I'm looking for a bolt action rifle in .308, as I would like to go elk hunting in the future, but I have some questions. What does /k/ recommend for under $500? I was thinking a ruger american, or a used remington 700, but am open to suggestions. Also, can I use 7.62 nato in a .308 rifle? I have heard differing opinions on this, but no facts or sources to back it up.

You can totally use 7.62 real fuckin' NATO in a .308 gun. It's the other way around that you need to be more careful.

OP, I 2nd this. Just got one and it's a nice shooter. I would highly recommend a trigger job and a different stock once you get it
