Is the colt 1911 any good?
I'm looking for a fairly basic model that I can possibly put a match trigger in.

Be sure to have the new sear, hammer, and disconnector properly fitted by a smith if you decide to change it

CMP should be getting some soon, I recommend picking one up

It's a relic. There are a lot of modern guns cheaper and better.
Not saying it isn't a good gun, but there have been some advancements in the last 100 years.
Mil spec is best spec. 1911s got a bad rep when companies deviated from it.

i figured it would be cool to have a classic GI model, i already have a few modern pistols

From what I heard Colt's are the only ones worth getting, all the others have some sort of problem.

what's the recoil like with a 1911? I've only fired 9mm before

Every time you pull the trigger time stops and a female version of John Moses Browning descends from the sky to give you the most intense fuck of your life, when you're laying there spent she will lean down, kiss you on your forehead, and whisper "Murika'" before ascending back into the sky. No one else see's this though so when time resumes they'll see you on the ground breathing heavily, this has led to the mistaken belief that 1911 recoil is strong.

I'd go for a Springfield, IMO you pay too much for the name when you buy Colt.

I think military style sights are garbage and would much prefer bulkier ones that are more squared.

Springfields made in the USA are more expensive than a Colt. The only way a Springfield is cheaper is if you get one of the cheap Brazil made ones. But then the quality will suffer it will be rough as a cob and have 2 piece barrel.

I love adjustable bomar sights most
70's/80's custom is best 1911 IMO
