If American Society fully embraced imperialism and allowed themselves to use banned or unseemly equipment and tactics (ie flamethrowers, chemical weapons, carpet bombings, full scale attacks on cities) would the US Military be unstoppable?
>>
Yes
but that is a big if.
>>
>>28404987
There are enough nukes scattered around and few enough defenses against them that literally no one is or could be unstoppable.
>>
>>28404987
Yes. We would dominate.
>>28405015
No one has the balls to use them. Remember OP is saying we dont care about rules, so us using nukes is a go.
>>
>>28405114
That's the point of nukes though.
If we use them, others will.
If people use nukes, nobody wins.
>>
>>28404987
the reason they stopped using flamethrowers is because they sucked as weapons, not because muh hippies.
>>
>>28404987
>other countries stop lending money to the US government

It's already ogre.

Possibly.

>>
>>28405129

What the fuck? Bullshit. The Yanks used two nuclear bombs on Japan and they kicked the shit out of them thereby winning the war against Japan.

The problem isn't nuclear weapons, the problem is having countermeasures that can nullify nuclear weapon delivery. Nobody gives a shit if you use a nuke on yourself, they only get worried if you can deliver it somewhere that might hurt them.
>>
>>28405175
Nuking Japs wasn't M.A.D.
>>
>>28405133
TLDR the replacement for the flamethrower, the M202 FLASH Flame rocket launcher, is still in service in some form and was used against caves in afghanistan. Shoulder launched thermobarics are the new flame thrower.
>>
>>28405175
The US dropped two 15kt nuclear devices on a nation that had none

That is not comparible to launching even a single modern ICBM, especially against other nations with the same or similar level of capability.
>>
Duh. We could fight the entire world, ayy's, and mole people and still win. In not kidding. U.S. military is 60years ahead of any other military. Slavshits and Chinks btfo.

MAD is a thing
A large section of the past century was based on it.
'people using nukes' can and should be interpreted to mean multiple entities, not just one.
>>
>>28405133
Despite being devastatingly effective in close in fights, the flamethrower is only still effective on flame tanks and it's operator is hopelessly ineffective outside of 50m.
The flamethrower as a man portable was replaced by flame rockets/thermobarics.
And there is also the fact that new tech is working against the flamethrower in a way.
Military uniforms can and are flame retardant and non-absorbent, as opposed to dudes wearing Khaki/cotton twill which is 1000x worse.

The only way the thrower comes back is if we get a light long lasting fuel source and the thrower is small enough to be a secondary weapon sized like a shotgun, and even then it'll take a backseat to flame rockets/thermobarics.
>>
>>28404987
>allowed themselves to use banned or unseemly equipment and tactics (ie flamethrowers, chemical weapons, carpet bombings, full scale attacks on cities)
All of that is completely shit against nukes. And Ruskies have enough nukes to uphold the parity, so no. It would not be unstoppable.

Most countries can only nuke the west coast and America would have AM emplacements everywhere. Also, people would move out of the cities.

No one could stop Viking America

america could "pull a hitler" and break all the rules of war and mercilessly annihilate a few nations, until the entire world decides it is time to retaliate and totally deletes the u.s. from existence.

so no america would not be undefeatable we would just be seen as the new nazi germany and be swiftly defeated.

The Star Wars Defense System would work and thanks to Space X and the last 30 years of advancements in computer technology and rocket science it would be at least 300x cheaper than it would have been in the 80's.

The only thing preventing its construction is a decades old UN treaty about space weapons and a lack of will. The Pentagon could also build a fleet of pic related to put the satellites up and shit nukes wherever they felt nuke-able. All while simultaneously colonizing the solar system.

Checkmate nerds.

>Most countries can only nuke the west coast
Anon, you DO realize that planet Earth is a geoid, not a cylinder? And that Russian nukes would all be flying over the Arctic?

> would have AM emplacements everywhere
As of now, both US and RF have well enough nukes on standby to completely overwhelm any existing AM.

>Also, people would move out of the cities.
You cannot evacuate a city of over a million in a few hours. You would be lucky to do so in a few weeks. But that doesn't matter, as cities are secondary targets for nukes, primary targets being command&control, infrastructure, industry and military facilities (AF and Navy bases first and foremost).

After the exchange, there would be only ragged remains of command chain over maybe a quarter of original amount of forces still retaining any capability for combat. And absolutely zero supplies, support or intel. Not even starting on countries' entire industry, agriculture, logistics, power and water supply (and therefore ability to sustain the surviving population) all going to hell.

Nuclear exchange would be guaranteed to put an end to WWIII. Not because the participants would be completely annihilated (nukes aren't really capable of that), but because dealing with the consequences is guaranteed to become a far more pressing issue than any action abroad.
>>

>The Star Wars Defense System

>The only thing preventing its construction is
The fact that it doesn't work.

the army stopped using flamethrowers outside of defoilation for a reason. they found better ways to catch stuff on fire. there's a reason why no serious military uses flamethrowers. we used nepalm and WP in Iraq.
carpet bombing isn't used because it's staggeringly inefficient compared to what we can achieve with guided munitions
>>
>>28405465
Actually, it's a pretty sweet lift system too.
>>
>>28404987
No, because then the rest of the world will actually use their budget for militaries.
>>

its something that has nothing to do with what I posted.

Look it up, incendiary devices aren't covered, neither is carpet bombing nor attacks on cities

total war America wouldn't build more anti-missile defenses? it may be quicker/cheaper to build more nukes, but that's alarming to the global community. who can object to a country wanting to be better protected

people aren't moving out of the cities because of sudden evacuation, but because they're easy total war targets. this is civic minded citizens dispersing to help the war effort.

>dealing with the consequences
Japan is doing fine after getting nuked twice. what's the big deal? just take your iodine tablets and pick up that AR citizen. consequences are a only a concern for people that lose wars
>>
Flame throwers and carpet bomber offer nothing to modern day warfare.

>>28405754
>Who can object to a country that wants to be better protected?
Protecting yourself could imply:
A. You seeing your neigbors(or in this case, whoever has missiles) as potential agressors, which isn't exactly a nice idea to give them
B. Prepping for a war you're gonna start
C. There's a threat which might require them to move too
D. Why are you of building defences? comrad Putin will keep your anus warm and safe
All of these could in one way or another have negative effects on the economy, your relationships, or might cause general global tension which normally should be avoided.

Ofc D has no negative sides

Fucking everyone, as that upsets the nuclear parity and brings the WWIII closer in.

> but because they're easy total war targets
And also where all the industry is located. Are you gonna build your tanks and refine your oil in countryside?

>Japan is doing fine after getting nuked twice
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SAME. They ate two VERY LOW YIELD bombs. Exchange between US and RF would drop over a thousand of 100-300kT warheads on both countries. It cannot obliterate the population, but there would be no more naval bases to house fleets and no more fleets themselves, with no more shipyards to build other fleets or even steelworks and machinery factories to provide components. OR EVEN FUCKING HIGHWAYS TO TRANSPORT THOSE IF THEY WERE PRESENT. Same with airfields, radars, satellite networks, oil pipelines, power plants, water facilities and other sorts of infrastructure. Also your brass is out since heavier nukes are perfectly capable of collapsing everything dug under the Cheyenne Mountain.

HOW IN THE NAME OF FUCK ARE YOUR GOING TO MAINTAIN A CAMPAIGN ABROAD UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES? Soviets had the idea of a tank rush towards the English Channel and that's it.

HOW

Shy of using nukes, pretty much. Russia might give us trouble and we'd probably have some issue with China, but in general we'd steam roll everyone else.

there is global economy and what not, but North America can become pretty easily self sufficient. so, let any butt hurt sanctions come. as far as escalating the problem it'll all become moot when America launches its first offensive

>>28406153
thing is, America does shit the rest of the world objects to all the time and guess what? America still does it. if America suddenly went prewar WWII Germany and started building up it military assets in earnest most first world nations (our allies) would ignore the implications because of what they mean. Muslim Invasion? nawh its just a few immigrants. America getting ready to acquire all the clay? nawh they're just afraid of the next 9-11

with that in mind, if the whole situation were to go nuclear, America would launch first. surprise + intel + best missiles is going to cut down on a good amount of retaliation. after that there will be numerous plans at the state and federal level to get the national war machine up and running again

>>
>>28405300
Flamethrowers weren't used primarily to set people on fire. I'm sure some people were set on fire by them, but that was not the intent. The intent was to suffocate people in tunnel systems.

OP here.

I never said America would invade the whole world or start a nuclear war with Russia. Just that they'd take what they wanted and no one could stop them. Imperialism would probably start with Canada and Mexico, do you really think Russia would give a fuck? Russia has a pretty ambivalent attitude to most countries and I really couldn't see them starting a nuclear war over the invasion of anyone but themselves.
