IMO, 5 is the maximum you can have without being a collector (mind you, I have 24, lol) - folder, small/medium/large fixed blade, and multitool - each of these fills a different role and depending on the situation, you might want to carry one, or the other.

Heh. The circled knives are actually the only ones I purchased myself. The big one near the top middle is one my dad made for me a long time ago, and the one below that is some shitty tin knife I traded for while I was in Africa. The rest are gifts from family and friends over the course of 15+ years. I know they're all shit, but I still can't bring myself to chuck them. So they sit in a box in my closet.
