A fully supported chamber would address the issues the .45 Super case was designed to alleviate - mainly failures just above the extractor groove. .45 Super cases have a thicker web than standard .45 ACP cases and as a result have slightly less powder capacity.
Here are some hot .45's in my cartridge collection. .450 SMC was a variant of .45 Super using a small rifle primer. The hope was to further strengthen the case by using a smaller primer pocket.

Regular brass can easily handle +p but the super rounds use stronger brass. Running top end super loads with regular brass has the chance of brass separation and other such problems.

The .45 Super case was introduced by cutting down the .451 Detonics Magnum (see my previous photo) as this case is thicker than the .45 ACP. This was done to address the unsupported feed ramp portion of the M1911 barrel which was the most common pistol intended for .45 Super conversions. With a fully supported chamber you could push .45 ACP brass to a higher pressure than with a partially unsupported chamber. Regardless, if you want to push the envelope of velocity, get the proper brass for your own safety's sake.

take whatever brass you have lying around. load it with federal large pistol primer and 200 grain gold dot seated to 1.2 inches on top of 9 grains of power pistol. Enjoy 500+ ft lbs of dindu spattering goodness.
Next favorite, and only for use in fully supported chambers, preferably the xd series. 255 gr cast lead flatpoint. 8 gr power pistol and oal 1.186 952 fps out of 4 inch barrel. also 500 lb ft but mad penetration instead of splattering.

If you have a fully supported chamber, like on the xd series, you can do some crazy things with standard brass.
