I'll go first: this is my cane sword. I picked it up second hand and can only assume that the stick figure etchings down the length represent all the people killed by this blade. The theory is that the owner ran out of room to etch his kills on the blade so he sold it. Seems antique. Anyone know the maker?

I was given this by my dad to hold on to. It's apparently WWII era from the features. The handle is loose though, if I were to disassemble it and reassemble. Most blade information would be on the tang as well, right?

Wow, rare sword you got there. My Japanese is a little rusty but I'm pretty sure that reading is something like:
The Pleasure of Cum inside (内部兼の喜び)

Something about the joy of internal ejaculation. I need to study my kanji more though so don't take my word for granted.
A relic from the taking of Japan. Probably an officer's sword by the looks of the militaristic styling of the sheath. All that text must be the swordmakers mark, maybe also something about the nation's guiding principles as a memo to the holder. Either it was picked up from the rubble of bombings or a gift of formal surrender. Maybe taken from a corpse or just sold by an old jap chap for retirement money.

it's doubtful any japanese family would ever sell their katana, same reason you see so few arisakas with mums, surrendering your weapon to the enemy was a huge cultural taboo, the only intact weapons were from dead japs pretty much

While the handle is off, it may be a good idea to apply some light oil. I'd use something like olive oil or sunflower oil. Just something super light to keep a really thin coating. That's if you don't oil it already. Don't scrub it or use a gun oil like CLP or something, there are sometimes harsh chemicals which may wear away at the steel or effect the patina. A regular cooking oil will be very milk and will help protect the steel just like it is today.
