I was about to "upgrade" my factory sight on the PPS but before putting down some money I'm not sure if night sight are really necessary, useful or they just looks cool. If I was about to get mugged at night probably is going to be on a short distance and I wouldn't be able to aim down sight.
Are night sights really necessary?
I don't recommend the Meprolight Tru-Dots. The ones they make for the PPS are worse than stock in anything but pitch black. I'm have them on mine now, but I'm going to try Trijicon HD's next. The only complaint I've heard about them is they are sharp and bother some people that CC.

And yes night sights are fucking GREAT, I have different brands on different guns and the ones at the link are my favorite so far. The fiber optic/tritium ones truglo does on my p226 are magical in day or pitch black but you risk breaking the fiber rods (easy to replace but a con in my opinion).
For ccw I recommend the link (or a similar style for OP's PPS), I have a set of ameriglo hackathorns and they work great in the day and low-ish light but they aren't the best for pitch black. Also with the Ameriglo the tritium was dim when I got it, all my truglo's have been bright as fuck.
