Its what other anons have already stated. I met a few old timers that actually got to interact and serve under Chesty both in WWII and Korea. Every single one of them loved that man because he was relaxed when it came to uniform shit and also he took care of the lower ranks. One of the things that I was told that spawns from him is the act of always allowing the lower enlisted to eat before NCO, SNCO, or Officers. It is said that durring WWII he saw some Marine officers walking into the mess ahead of lower enlisted already in line and grabbing food. He apparently lit those officers up and so the tradition started. Dont know if its true but you will never see a higher Marine eat before a lower Marine.
Also some of the quotes from him are pretty K. When seeing a flamethrower for the first time he asked where the bayonet went.

Sometimes you'll see Generals only wearing a few of their most important ribbons. You don't have to wear them all, all of the time except for important events and the official Army records photo).
But yes, there are more awards now than there were in WWII. A lot of "filler" awards. The GWOT medal is a joke. Shouldn't the National Defense medal cover that? I think GWOT should only be given to units that directly supported the GWOT, not just to everyone who graduates basic training. It's ridiculous. Then again, my unit was really shitty with awards, so I saw a lot of guys (including myself) never get the Good Conduct Medal, any Army achievement medals, even failed to put us in for the CAB (only people who got CAB in my company were guys that were on a patrol with the Commander who was out "CAB hunting" at the beginning of the deployment and they hit a small IED, he only went out two or three more times the entire deployment.), while they were handing them out left and right to the non-combat arms battalions for mortars that hit literally miles away from them. Hell the first night I was in Iraq, we had incoming mortars that landed within 100-200 meters of us.
