What are the differences, pros/cons of an aluminum vs steel 1911 frame?
>>
>>28349403
Pros: Its slightly lighter
Cons: Everything else
>>
>>28349403
>alu
+lighter
-weaker

>steel
+more authentic
+stronger
-heavier
>>
>>28349433
>>28349438
Figured that much. If you're not trying to put hot loads through it, will the service life be comparable?
>>
>>28349403
Aluminum is lighter and requires less corrosion protection. Steel is better in all other aspects.
>>
Not enought differences to avoid an aluminium frame.
>>
>>28349438
More than just weaker for aluminum. They throw the balance off (not really a huge deal, but its still noticeable), you can't use standard magazines (with steel followers) unless you have a steel insert soldered into the feed ramp, and the felt recoil is significantly more than that of a steel frame (or even an aluminum frame 220 in .45.
I'd only consider an aluminum frame 1911 if it was strictly for carry, and even then I'd be hard pressed to choose it over steel.
>>
>>28349459
Al wears much faster. Can't take as much of a beating either.
>>
Whats the "best" IWB holster for a G19?
>>
>>28349459
Assuming you use the right springs and use a shock buff or something similar (I think springco makes a good two-piece buffer guide rod) it shouldn't make that much of a difference. The link or barrel will go before the frame. Also depends strongly on the make of the gun. I know of aluminum Kimbers (inb4 I get meme'd at) with thousands of rounds of .45 Super through them that held up better than steel Rugers.
>>
>>28349403
My main deal with the 1911 is that steel feels much more balanced as the mag is emptied.
>>
>>28349507
I personally like the Bladetech nano.
It really comes to personal preference though, and the blade tech isn't too expensive and it hides the gun well.
I have one for my G32 and I love it.
>>
>>28349538
Sorry, I should have mentioned I was looking for a hybrid holster.
>>
>>28349522
What Rugers are steel framed? They do a 1911 now?

What is a good budget 308 round for practicing with a tikka t3? I work at an Academy sports right now and I can't pass up getting one for $500 while I still can. I don't really have anywhere to shoot beyond 200yds right now, though after I've finished school I plan on moving out to Wyoming/Utan/Idaho/Arizona, somewhere long distance shooting wouldn't be a hassle. I could by the cheapest shit in the store but that's not how a good rifle deserves to be treated.

>>

How is it elitist? If I think a certain gun looks pretty I'll buy it, not to show off but because I find it aesthetically pleasing even if uglier guns perform better.
>>
looking to buy my first gun, would it better to go to an actual local gun store or a bigger chain like AIM, what about pawn shops and more rural orientated stores?

>>

>because I find it aesthetically pleasing even if uglier guns perform better.
answered your own questions
but again, aftermarket does exist so the real difference is negligible as long as you're within a reasonable price range

>>28352094
local gun store, big chains will usually have people who know nothing about what they're selling you and are less likely to let you fingerfuck the gun to get a feel for it
pawn shops are great if you know what you want or have a general idea and want to shop around, but go in with some knowledge or you can get conned

Hey guys, trying to find myself a good m65 style jacket like the one in the lower middle of this picture. Do you guys have any good recommendations as to where you can buy these? It doesn't have to be black but it has to be a decently thick m65. My ex had her uncle's and it was super fashionable, but it was too small for me to wear.

I've been looking at the Rock Island Armory M1911-A2 FS Tactical for a while. It's a double stack version. Anything wrong with them?

How wide are they?

http://www.tombstonetactical.com/catalog/rock-island/1911-a2-fs-tactical-pistol-45acp-5in-14rd-parkerized/
>>
Lightweight 1911's have a shorter half-life. They're prone to cracking at the slide-stop pin hole, and the point where the dust cover meets the frame, etc. Yeah, you shouldn't shoot steel followers in a LW frame, but I prefer the Devel style follower.

LW Commanders have been around forever. LW Officers have been around for , what- 25 years? It's not immature technology. If you wear one out you've cost-exceeded the value of the gun in ammo. I'd probably part it out on Gunbroker.

That said- the LW 1911's handle fantastic- the real sleeper of the bunch is a LW 5". They're quicker out of the leather, and transitions from one target to another feel quicker.
>>
Is the rock island m206 snubby a shit?
>>
>>28352779
Get an Austrian one. Usually between $20 and $30. I've had mine for several years now and it's still holding up perfectly.
>>
As you get shorter with 1911's the reliability takes a hit. That light slide really speeds up, so the magazine struggles to bring the next round up in time for the slide to strip the round. You'll probably find magazine springs will be key to your future enjoyment.
>>
I've been to a gun show before but i never interacted with much of anything or asked to hold anything.

I'm thinking of going to one again soon to buy something if i can find a deal. I'm just wondering what's generally the best way to respectfully deal with vendors? I don't want to come off as a spazz since my knowledge is limited but i don't want to be looked down upon either i'm not a savant of weaponry.

Like i said a dumb question but i really don't want to leave empty handed if it can be helped and not have any bad experiences lingering over my shoulder.
>>
>>28353183
Just walk around and if you see something you like ask to pick it up.
Really not that hard, gun show people generally aren't the most judgmental people in the world.
>>
>>28353209
After reading some of the gun shop stories threads i get the impression there's some general code of conduct i should be aware of and that's what i'm kind of trying to find out if there is such a thing.

Especially when handling a purchase or potential purchase and getting to know the fire arm before deciding it.

Since no one answered it, basically nothing. A longer barrel may swing more smoothly due to the weight. I'm inclined to say that unless you own a lot of shotguns that a 2in difference would be hard to notice. I would go 26 because of weight for long days shooting rabbits.

why are your ear muffs contacting the stock? Sounds like you're holding it wrong or aren't wearing your earpro correctly.

1. There are some earplugs that feel like they're made of some sort of wax that you can mold and conform to the shape of your ear. Those in combination with those plugs that have that plastic connecting piece that pushes them in does a pretty damn good job, although my hearing is already damaged so it might not be as good as I think it is.

2. What do you mean fidgety?

1. Your cheekweld is shit. A proper cheekweld will allow you to be able to shoot with muffs
2. Dry fire and practice your fundamentals at home

Seeing as gun laws are going to be eased back a bit in my country, I've been wondering something.

When you see a brawl on the street (in this case, it was two adults vs 8 teenagers trying to act tough), and one side (teenagers) has a tire iron, while the other (adults) has a 2x4 and they're both going at it with said weapons, is it justified and/or illegal to fire a warning shot to break it up?

Scenario I just gave actually happened in my country today, and one of the adults suffered serious brain damage after he got hit with the tire iron in the head a couple of times.

It will be my first large gun. Don't live in a bad neighborhood or anything but I'd like to get one before the election.

Money is no object, but I want the best bang for my buck, and dont wanna pay more than I have to.

Is it true that a high quality AK would cost less than a medium quality AR? Needs ergonomics and reliability. A respectable gun I can keep hopefully forever.

It's ultimately up to you, don't let idiots with their jaded opinions taint your decision making. There are a few points to keep in mind though:

>Environment
Do you live in the plains? if so, maybe an AR with a 20" barrel would suit you more. Heavily forested/hilly area? Maybe an AK would be better.

>Ammo availability
if you're truly concerned about potential gun legislation, maybe an AR would be better (since it can take .223 and 5.56). Like buying ammo in bulk? Maybe 7.62x39 spam cans would make some good furniture.

>Parts/Longevity
From what I've HEARD, the reliability argument for the AK is a bit of a moot point with the wide availability of cheap AR parts. That's not to say those parts aren't attainable for an AK either, just that they're more common.

All right lads, I want to build myself a trench gun for cheap, like under $500 if possible. I'd like to have wood (or fake wood?) furniture, bayonet mount and slamfire capability a must, exact historical accuracy optional. What do? It looks like IAC/Norinco used to make pretty much exactly this, but that they don't anymore, and I wouldn't mind a 3" chamber if possible. Or maybe I should just wait for one of the repros to crop up on gunbroker. Thoughts?

I asked this exact question about a week or two ago in this general and no one helped me.

From what I found online, most, if not all, of the reasonably priced trench models are bought up.

BUT

I did find a Norinco/IAC M97 sold by none other than fucking Bud's Gun Shop and bought it.
http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/37_288/products_id/1767/INTER+97+12+20+HAMMER+PUMP+SGN+WAL
Now I know, it's not a trench model, but check this out.
http://www.ima-usa.com/u-s-wwi-winchester-m-1897-trench-gun-ventilated-barrel-jacket-heat-shield-with-bayonet-mount.html

From looking at the current fitting on the end of the tube, it's all affixed with plain old screws. I plan on getting one of these (hopefully I can find it a little cheaper) as well as a bayonet for it.

remember, momma don't like tattletales.
>>
>>28360803
oh, and I forgot to say. the wood on mine is pretty fantastic. the only real imperfections I've noticed are some minor wear along the tube from the pump, but considering this bitch can slamfire, I probably would have done that myself after a month anyways.

Bear in mind you'll need to cut clearance notches in the barrel to prevent the adapter from sliding, These also require a different magazine tube cap, but these show up on the parts and auction sites quite often.

Recommended sights for a Glock 19 gen 3? It's my carry gun and I've come to realize that when it gets even a little bit dark, I can't see shit with the stock sights.
I've heard good things about pic related, but I was also looking at TruGlo and Meprolight Tru-dot (and frankly the colored sights look cooler).
Meprolight Tru-dot is also only $60
TruGlo is $80
Trijicon is $100

So /k/, I come to you once again for help.

My buddy had a garage fire, and in it he lost a Mak-90, a M1 Garand, and a browning hi-power.
The m1 and the hi power were complete losses

But the Mak-90, that's where I need help. It burned, but the primary damage is the retardant used by the FD extinguishing the fire, and the furniture is gone.
The internals seem O K, but I haven't looked at it much.
It had a thumb hole stock, as I've heard that makes some relevance with 922(r) and how the stock fits the receiver.
I apologize for my ignorance surrounding this rifle.

I should have images soon, but tonite I do not.
Have anyone has experience here?

I hope to restore this gun. Is there any hope?

Thanks in advance

>>28367091

We are much smarter than animals. We are also pack hunters. Early humans would just chase animals until they collapsed from exhaustion. We are really good at running for long periods, other animals are good for sprinting. We just tracked and tracked until they died.

Big animals we drove off cliffs, or you could just bleed the thing. One spear won't kill it, a few dozen eventually will.

Think of how you would kill a large animal with spears and a few dozen men. Our ancestors were no dumber in the "practical" knowledge department.
