I read one bad review on rock island once, but since then everyone I've met who owns one says they are great and worth more than the price they are sold at.

If you found a good deal on a Rock Island armory 1911, and replace the springs, especially the recoil spring with an 18.5lb, with wilson combat. Then polished the feed ramp and the internals, you'd have a damn fine pistol for cheap.

Guys, /co/ here, i had a Norinco 1911 that i traded a while ago and now i regret doing so, i liked it because it was pretty close (IMO) to the look of a regular USGI 1911, had minimal markings, and was just an all around fun and surprisingly accurate little blaster. I grabbed the metro arms american classic two a while ago, which is nicex has a bunch of decent aftermerket- esue features like an adjustable trigger, and all that, but the a1 just holds a special place in my heart, and i kind of wish i had gotten one as babbys first 1911. JP Enterprises Tuned and Polished buffer spring.
It still has the "all at once" recoil of an AR but it's better, softer, and no sproing.
If you use a heavy buffer with it you'll get even better results
