Why did the USAF stop camoing their aircraft?
Flat grey is so boring.
Beancounters
Because there's no chance of them being attacked on the ground by Soviet air forces in West Germany anymore

They where originally trained to do low level bombing in Europe during the cold war.
After that ended tactics changed to mostly medium level bombing to avoid ground based low tech AA (23mm guns and MANPADS) in the middle east.
This rendered woodland camo on aircraft pretty useless.
Now give me an A-10 in multicam

Paint costs money and it's also additional weight on a plane. The fact that most engagements occur at standoff distances now means camo is pretty much useless anyways.

Flat gray blends in with the sky. It is better cammo against ground based threats.

wouldn't the grey defend against air assaults better as it blends in with the pavement?
Grey blends into the clouds pretty well.

Grey is pretty much best camo against every background plane can be seen against. Decent over forests, desert, sea... or anything.
They should paint all planes in bright polished gold so that they all look like the sun.

It blends in better but because its a flat color you can note the shape and presence of a plane much easier
