You're not going to find many at all, OP

Have a scope. Isn't NV, obviously.
>>
NV is lame and worthless unless its gen 3/4. You'd be better off just waiting ten minutes for your eyes to adjust with gen 2 and gen 1 gives you literal cancer.

If I didn't waste so much money on my useless collectors guns I would have some night vision.

Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!

The novelty wore off after using them for work so much.

Also aren't 14s like the best you can get on the civilian market right now? I might think about it if you could find 15s at a good price; but I'd rather wait for a full/near moon and a clear night for going in the woods then spending the money on 14s.

Oh and being under NODs for extended periods of time at night makes you sleepy. Don't ask why, it just does.

>>
>>28323043

The only reason I've ever had to get nods is to bag a few coyotes at night, but that was one time, definitely not worth the cost of night vision stuff. Overall I don't accessorize my guns because I would rather have another gun than put a red dot or similar item on one of my rifles or pistols.

Currently running with an Armasight Vega gen1+ with an ir flood on my rifle, saving up money to either get a pvs-14 or if the PN-21k from wolf turns out to be any good I might get that.

I'd rather spend that $3k-$5k on a nice custom handgun, Korth, Pardini, or rifle and ammo.

I have an ACH that mostly sits on display. I'd like to tacticool it; what is the preferable NOD/mount setup, as used by the HSLD tier one operators?
>>
>>28323139
Pretty much this.

Spent lots of hours inna military training with NV, live fire at night etc. 1 gen is shit, 2 gen is meh, 3 gen is cool 4 gen is awesome.
>>

>I think I'll pass
But couldn't you just put a extra plastic lense over the orignal lense? Can't be that hard and you will want to have something that protects against scratches anyway.

Not that it matters since 1 and 2 gen sucks ass anyway. Most time you are better of with just your ordinary night vision and hearing.
If you use a IR torch (which you need if you want to see) you will light up like fucking 4th of july for any one else with NV shit.

An extra lense is exactly what the US Army did on their PVS-1/2/3 series of passive night vision scopes. They had a radiation absorbing ring and lense at the rear of the scope in case of damage to the NV Tube. For the most part US built Gen-1/2 is fairly free from radiation issues but also has the issue of being like all of it's type and being the size of the goddamn earth. I have a PVS-1 and PVS-2 and once you mount them on an AR it feels like one good hit and you'll snap the carrying handle off the receiver.

I have no excuse for lack of cigs, but I'll be damned if I deface my Mitchell cover with any scrawlings of sharpie

While we're on the subject, what could I do with a PASGT? I'm trying to give the helmets a bit of 'flavor', if you will. Any recommendations for items in the band/ other common changes? I think I'll put some SWD goggles around it

Not even close to the truth. Some Gen.0 units (both US and Soviet) can give off x-rays, but only while being run on a ridiculously high voltage (which will burn out the unit very quickly anyway).

The notion that Russian Gen.0/1 units produce x-rays under normal operation is a meme supposedly started by NVG manufacturers here in the US when cheap slav units were flooding into the US in the early 2000s.

>>
>>28326967
Yes there is, in a manner of speaking. Gen4 was the term used to describe some prototype tubeless NODs in the early 2000s. These never really went anywhere, but the term was co-opted to describe digital night vision technology which is also tubeless, though the technology is not remotely related.

Someday I want to get a pair of 1PN63 or the PNV-57E. The 63 just has a certain charm to it and I've heard fairly good things about it and I've seen folks helmet mount the 57E and it appears to be fairly usable.
>>
>>28323043
I already own it. Now I want a 2nd pvs14 for bino vision, or thermal.

Trying to get a local SWAT TL to put a class together on NV use, not just shooting but patrolling, movement, driving etc. but the biggest obstacle is finding people who both have NV and are willing to train with it.
>>
>>28327288
1PN63 is okay, the unit sits on a giant frame that gets strapped to your face, though. If you don't set the frame up correctly or you get claustrophobic easily, you're not going to have a good time.

The PNV-57E is, IMO, the best NVG unit the Soviets devised. They're simple and easy to use while sporting beautiful image quality.

Performance-wise the PNV-57E and the 1PN63 are very similar.

and dont give me any bullshit about home invasions, I leave the bathroom light on at night, plus there's the power light on my computer that burns with the intensity of a thousand suns. Also i have this handy dandy flashlight that has a strobelight mode, and i'd have no time to but on some NVGs anyway
>inb4 what a scrub; he doesn't even sleep with his NVGs on
all that being said if the good ones weren't so fucktardedly expensive I might be willing to splurge a bit for a pair. Or maybe a FLIR optic for shits 'n' gigs

what do you guys think of this one? http://www.opticsplanet.com/armasight-opmod-pvs-14-gen-3-alpha-night-vision-monocular.html
>>
>>28327275
I use the armasight vega as my entry level night patrol tool for coyote shooting and such, I spend a lot of time in the woods at night hiking with friends, I picked up a gen1+ to start with so I would be better informed when I had the money to buy a proper gen3+ that didn't need the ir flood all the time, that being said even the us military makes wide use of IR floods on their rifles from their PEQ when doing operations these days being that most recent conflicts involve engagements with groups that don't have any NODs at all.
>>
>>28327423
Most well reviewed PVS-14 from good companies should be fine, just make sure it is autogated which that one appears to be, you may also want to make sure it comes bundled with a head mount or helmet mount if you want one, that being said wolf is about to start selling the PN-21K in the US which is the russian equivalent taking the same battery and having mostly the same features but has a metal body and could potentially be priced cheaper, most people that have had a chance to try them early and SHOT show and such have compared them favorably with the PVS-14, here is an article on all of the new Wolf optics being brought in.

>>
>>
>>28323043
So... what's a decent NVG goggle? How about sight? Along with a PEQ 15, how much does that run?
>>
>>28331880
PVS-14 monocular is 3k-4k depending on who you get it from and what mounts it is bundled with, peq-15 will run about 1.3k but they will only sell you the version with the gimped ir iluminator but other than that the visible and non visible lasers are the same as milspec if I remember right.
>>
>>28323043
I'm in college and don't even have enough money for a decent rifle, let alone a scope to mount on it, let alone a scope for it that's night vision.
