A few weeks ago I got a m1 grand and I haven't taken it out to shoot and I planned to do that today. The local range i plan on going to doesn't allow rifles that shoot bullets larger than .300 winchester. Is a 30 - 06 larger than a .300?
.300 Win Mag is more powerful than .30-06, so it should be alright. I'd call ahead and confirm that your Garand is okay first, however.

.300 Win Mag and .30-06. The Magnum is on the left. You'll be fine.

Because a lot of milsurp Garand ammo has steel jackets that spark when hitting the range backstop. If it's rifle velocity, that spark might fly back far enough to ignite unburned powder on the range floor and cause at least some shut-down while they hit spots with a fire extinguisher.

The 30-06 is the most common hunting cartridge on the planet. I wouldn't worry.
Both are 30 caliber....

I never understood this. My local indoor range allows anything up to, but not including .50BMG and I was able to shoot surplus steel core 7.62x54r there. It sparked like crazy whenever it hit the end but no one ever cared.
