Was the Stuka legitimately the best dive-bomber of the war? Or was just it a memeplane because of "MUH SCRY SIREN"?
>>28302185
I mean yeah it was the best dive bomber but thats not saying much so yeah it was just a meme plane.
>>28302185
Nah, im pretty sure if a B-29 pilot was komikazing that would of been the best dive bomber.
>>28302185
No, this was.
>>28302185
The dauntless come pretty close, but it lack the automatic dive recovery on the stuka.
>>28302185
In all honesty stuka was one of the worst.
It was fragile, slow, short ranged, and didn't have that large of a payload.
However it was the first of the dive bombers into combat, and made a reputation for itself early.
SBD, D4Y, Barracuda, and SB2C are all better aircraft than the Stuka. A36 and F4U were just as good at bombing but were formidable fighters as well.
Hard to say which was the best.
Easy to point out that the Il2 is the most over rated, though.

Just the memes of Jericho.
>>28302215
That's a meme.
>>28302259
Meme
>>28302331
All meme planes
>>28302372
Yeah, Il-2 is memeiest meme.
>>28302372
Il2 wan't overrated as much as Stuka. Il2 was good at it's job, but the Soviets didn't have the air cover to make them as effective as they could have been.
>>28302331
Nice memes.

> taking nazi kill claims at face value.
one of those ship kills is worth more than all the imaginary kills of those stuka pilots.
>>28302486
Rudel was a faggot until the day that he died.
It was decisive in the beginning.
>>28302642
He worked at iHop tho
When I was a kid and played soccer with my dad, he used to shout "STUKA DIIIIIVE!!!" and make the screeching noise whenever he would kick the ball past me.
Why does one of my comfiest childhood memories revolve around a german dive bomber.

Kind of, but that's like being the world's smartest retard.
>>28302486
Weren't most of his kills once they switched from dive-bombing to 37mm guns?
>>28302185
I dunno why the siren is so synonymous with the stuka. It was discontinued pretty quickly. The stuka spent way more time in service without the siren than with it.
>>28302526
Your reminder that Rudel had a battleship kill to his name. A slavshit battleship, but still.
>>28306326
Most of them were mistakes. Close air support in general was vastly over-rated in WW2.
At Kursk, IL2's claimed to have killed more tanks than the Germans had. There are occasions of German attackers also doing that.
The thing is, air-to-ground weapons were pretty inaccurate. So for instance, Rudel might dive on a T34, drop a bomb, see a big cloud of smoke and think "I got him." But 2-3 minutes later the T34 drives away fine.
