The Bolsheviks used a desperate and starving populace to achieve power. After they had even some semblance of control over a region, they quickly turned on minority groups that they held contempt for. My great-grandfather had to leave his home because he was told that he wasn't welcome on the land that he toiled over for all of his life. And he was better off for it. Know why? Because the Soviet Union and the Communist Party actually managed to surpass the Czar in the cruelty and indifference that they showed the Slavic People.
That is why I do not get why slavaboos are so obsessed over the USSR. Yeah, their small arms where good, so what? It was still an oppressive police state that failed for a good reason.

I think Kalashnikov was honest and humble about what he did. He took existing concepts and components, modified them, and then put them into one weapon. He never tried to act like he was the best gunsmith ever or profit of his work. All he wanted was the pension he was entitled to for his military service.
Now the Soviet Government was a different story: They're the reason why Kalashnikov was decorated, promoted, hailed, etc. They took his creation and sold it around the world, made claims about his ingenuity, and all that other stuff.
Deep down he was a simple man that saw the flaws of the weapons his nation's army was issued (And the havoc and losses it caused) and created something to try to prevent it from happening again.
