Does /k/ sleep with a loaded gun nearby? How does /k/ keep their home defense guns near?

I keep the Model 88 in pic-related unloaded, with 5 shells on the butt sleeve. When I'm awake, it sits next to wherever I'm focusing my activities (right next to my desk while gaming for instance). And when I'm asleep, I put it a few feet away from me in a nook behind the dresser next to me, so I can reach it in a second or two. I don't keep it loaded on the extremely unlikely, off-chance I fuck with it while I'm half-asleep or if someone brings a guest and they touch the trigger, the shotgun drops from its current position, etc. Would keep an AK with a loaded mag nearby if I had one, but this is the best option available.

You're not gonna touch it in your sleep, and keep it away from children and you will have literally no problems.

Have fun getting anally raped by Jamal when you can't load your shotgun fast enough.
>>
>>28282581
This, where do you live OP. You sound like a good bootycall.

Seriously though shotgun loaded 5+1 with slugs and buckshot, pistols on both sides of the bed so I don't have to reach over the wife/vice versa.

Also, you'd better be at the end of a hallway and have hard to access windows.

Basically this. It's great to want to keep your firearm safe, but you're taking a bigger risk by keeping it unloaded.

It will be difficult to try and load that gun in a panic, with a angry dindu coming towards you.
It's easier to just flick the safety off and engage the target accordingly.
>>
I'm not retarded enough to keep a loaded gun in my house. There is ammo in the night stand with a speed loader n a mag. I also don't own a shotgun because im not white trash. I happen to own this thing called a door so intruders can't make it into my house. I also don't live within the city limits of the ghetto so there hasn't been a BnE in my neighborhood in years as far as I know.

I keep my 500 against the wall right between my bed and nightstand. She's within arm's reach at all times.

I do not keep it loaded. I have a shell tray stuck to the side of it loaded with slugs.

>LEL ENJOY BEING RAPED B-CUZ UNLOADED

There's a reason I practice combat reloads all the time. I can get a shell into the open chamber without having to look at it. I'll be fine.
>>
>>28282504
OP why not keep your guns loaded but with no round in the chamber... like a shotgun with the tube full, so you need to cycle it? There's no way your going to pump your shotgun and finger it in your sleep unless you're an ambien god. Same thing for handguns or rifles, I think it's called 'condition 3', chamber empty, full mag.

It's good to train for that, and it's important. But why intentionally add another thing to do during stress?
Why intentionally make it more difficult, and potentially slower?
I don't understand why train to manually load under pressure, when you could train to be ready to fire immediately. To each his own and all that, but still

I have my dad's old 3916 like pic related in my bedframe for now. Nothing really all that special, single stack 9mm. Better suited for CC to be honest.

Left my Grandad's Winchester 1897 with my Mom and little brother, which in hindsight probably wasn't the best idea, but neither of them have ever fired a handgun. Was gonna leave them his Makarov, but she didn't like it.

Only other funs are my Grandad's Mauser and .30-30 Lever gun.

I get that everyone wants to be effective and efficient during a home breakin, but holy fucking shit some of you are outright delusional or obsessive, or else you're so anal about being the "most" prepared you lose all context of reality
>>
>>28293066
just because you dont have any situations or ordeals in your life doesnt mean others are delusional. if somebody who knows what theyre doing wants to get to you, they can do even if you sleep with a gun under your pillow. all they gotta know is where you sleep. unless you live in a mansion, your door is broken in, they run to your room, and unload on you in less than 4 seconds. not even enough time for you to process the noise that just woke you up.
this is why you need a dog as a first line of defense, to give you enough time.
this is more advice for people who screw people over and have something coming to them.

>if somebody who knows what theyre doing wants to get to you, they can do even if you sleep with a gun under your pillow
That's exactly what I'm talking about. The actual chance of someone with serious intent and skill to kill you choosing to attack you is negligible. You might as well carry a gun in case of shark attacks at that point.
The likelihood of Jamal and Tyrone budtong into your house at 4 a.m., while statistically small, is at least appreciable and being realistically prepared for such is commendable, but this tinfoil hat "Dat dere CIA is gunna brake in an sassinate me less I git mah Mossberg loaded fast enuff!" is the kind of stupid, overzealoys bullshit that makes the firearm community look backwards
>>
>>28293184
Well having a gun loaded with an empty chamber is reasonable for home defense, I do it with my shotgun and AR but not with my pistols because I carry all day and just want to have one habit with them which is round in the chamber, the only reasonable way to carry a gun.
>>

I keep my magazine out of my glock and both in the nightstand. I have a big fucking dog though, so I figure he'd buy me more than enough time.

For some reason, having my dog makes me even more comfortable than my gun. He's alerted me to a drunk mexibro in my yard at night, and also to raccoons.

I'll never understand dogs' 6th sense about shit moving around. He can be cold asleep, but never misses a thing. Meanwhile the cat can be going completely bonkers, and he won't move an inch. But if a plate settles in the sink, he perks up.

He's also the reason I won't use a shotgun for home defense though. Don't want to hit him. Kinda lame since a rifle would do, but I don't want to kill a neighbor... Thus my glock at my bedstand.

In addition to
>>28283732
>>28290943

Because most handguns without safeties are double-action in one form or another, with heavier, longer triggers that are less likely to be accidentally fired, and many have some additional form of trigger or grip safety.

Most rifles and shotguns are essentially like single-action handguns, with light trigger pulls and no automatic safeties, so they need a manual safety just like a cocked and locked 1911 does.

Also, rifle safeties tend to be bigger and in easier to reach places, so flicking them off is less of an issue, you're not adding complexity to a holster draw as you might be with a handgun safety, and you don't have the issue of accidentally engaging a safety while racking the slide like you do with certain handguns.
