Alright /k/ommados, Canuck looking to buy my first gun need some advice.
I'll be receiving my Non-Restricted license in the mail within the coming weeks.
I've got about a thousand saved up. Also I really dislike the SKS rifles so please don't suggest that.
I'm into WWI and WWII era rifles, I originally wanted to buy an M1 Garand
however the prices here are pretty steep (1500- 2000$) and I also heard there can be some timing issues if you don't fire M2 ball ammunition.
My second choice was the Mosin Nagant cause it's pretty cheap and seems to be a relatively good rifle for the price.
The cons would be that the trigger is apparently garbage and the bolt can have some issues sticking with rapid fire.
Third and want I'm leaning towards buying would be a Swiss 1911 Schmidt Rubin Carbine.
It has a match grade trigger free floating barrel and despite it being bolt action the straight pull mechanism seems like you can fire it pretty rapidly.
But I'm kind of reluctant cause Ian from forgotten weapons who I consider pretty knowledgeable says he really doesn't like k31's.
So being that none of the local gun shops where I live sell surplus rifles I'll be ordering online here's what I'll end up paying.
Mosin Nagant 91-30 Hex receiver + 240 rounds non- corrosive 7.62x54R FMJ
560$ (tax+shipping included)

Swiss 1911 Schmidt Rubin Carbine + 240 rounds non-corrosive surplus 7.5x55 Swiss FMJ
670$ (tax+shipping included)

Given your criteria and price range I definitely think an SKS would be best for you.

K31 is boss tier. Ian is a shill

Those prices are pretty insane though.
You can get a K31 here for like 350 USD (489 CAD) also for 7.5x55 you wont be able to find corrosive so you dont have to state its corrosive.
>>
>>28275116
Sounds like you want a mosin and you want people to say you're not dumb.

1) You like WW1+2 era rifles. Not a bad thing

2) Your other shit is factoids that don't seem to explain what else you want. (Swiss 1911 can fire pretty rapidly. So what? Is that something you care about?)

3) What type of action do you want? Do you have a calibre preferences? Is it for target shooting or hunting? WE NEED MORE FACTS ABOUT YOUR WANTS MAN.

4) Get a lee enfield. But then you have to decide if you want to get an original .303 with 1.50$ ammunition or get an indian rebarrel in that cheaper round.
>>
>>28275232
I wasn't aware of that, good thing to know.
>>
>>28275116
Also, get an account with Canadian Gun Nutz and join the Equipment Exchange forum and trawl for deals.
>>
>>28275234
Mostly target shooting, capable of rapid fire with ammo cost being relatively low. Also could serve as my Innawoods rifle if it comes to that.

>capable of rapid fire

So a WW1 or WW2 ear semi automatic that is cheap to feed. SKS or Mosin it is then.

Unless you downgrade your wants to a low power calibre WW replica gun, like the suomi in 9mm.

PS Check Tradeex Military rifles

https://www.tradeexcanada.com/produits/64

They're not bad, but they did screw me on shipping once when they sent me the wrong item and wouldn't pay the return fees to get the right product.

SVT-40. Cheap ammo, full size cartridge, relatively inexpensive for your price range ($350-400 depending where you look), and will get you the jealousy of American /k/ommandos.
>>
>>28275116
Just go get an svt40.
>>

I considered the SVT 40 when I discovered it recently, but honestly I know nothing about the rifle.

Used mosins on Canadian Gun Nuts and other sites can go as low as 150$.

Meaning you're paying 310$ for 240 rounds of ammo.

Unless matching serial numbers actually means something to you.

Of you're not completely retarded they're amazingly accurate for such a old gun and for how light they are, people say they're hard to take apart, which they are the first couple times, but the people saying that are probably autists that got mad the first time and never tried again, personally I find cleaning them fun cause there's many parts that needs to be cleaned, especially the gas system. So yea get a valmet.
>>
>>28275398
I don't know buying guns from civils is pretty shady in Canadia, a lot of scammers.

Wanted to get a Garand from someone untill I realized most people are just reposting old pictures of Gunbroker trying to scam people
>>
>>28275394
it a semi auto 7.62x54r russian ww2 rifle with detachable magazines, its basically an sks that shoots giant mosin bullets instead of ak bullets, also the fact that it is old and from ww2, and has detachable mags
>>
>>28275430
While true technically, functionally it's a rifle to be loaded with clips
>>
>>28275424
I doubt that would be an issue, I work as a Locksmith and I have to take apart, repair and reassemble complicated mechanical shit all the time.

Since It's a slav gun must be pretty reliable in cold temperatures? That's one thing i forgot to mention is pretty crucial to me.

When in doubt crank it to 1.7. Otherwise yes svts are extremely reliable, only times I've have mine jam were when the gas setting was at 1.1 or something and when using after market mags
