K/ommandos!

I'm seriously debating onna PTR 308 with the paddle release. I had the chance to play with one recently and fell in love with it.

Do you have any thoughts or opinions on it?

Inb4 heavy and bulky. I'm a big guy.

Do you mean the PTR91 or the Century C308?

PTR 91.

I'm artarded but I've heard plenty of horror stories on the Century based guns. I had the pleasure of disassembling a C51 to find shit welds and a ground bolt face. mismatch rollers too.

Enjoy a semen demon.

To each their own, I guess. If PTR did a HK91 clone, I'd be much more interested in that. I'd also probably get their one in 7.62x39 or even an MP5 clone if they made it, but a G3 clone is just meh.

>>
>>28263277

>>
>>28263487

What makes the G3 a shitty design? Compared to an AR 308 or a Veypr 308?

G3 pattern seems fairly simple to maintain and strip. The trigger pack looked fairly easy to work with too. About all youd need is spare rollers.

To my plebian ass it looked like a decent tradeoff.

Then again I'm used to slavshit like the SKS and Nugget.
>>
>>28263391

Atlantic Firearms has a bunch of HK pattern rifles.

I've seen one of the MP5 in 9mm. Very expensive. Was around 1100$ I think. They do have the HK pattern in 7.62x39 too.
>>
>>28263549
It's okay for a service rifle, but as a sporting rifle it's totally shit. The roller delayed operation has sharp recoil that makes follow up shots difficult, it flings brass really far, it mangles your brass, it also shoots .308 which isn't cheap.

I mean, it's not a terrible awful useless design, but using a cheaper less powerful cartridge would make it a better design for the average Joe.
>>
>>28263277
This may be the best GWG pic ever
>>
>>28263727

I don't reload. So brass condition I don't mind of.

I can afford 308(I have a GI 1911 and 45 is even pricy at times.

Now I've seen poly furniture for them as well as wood. The one that I fired didn't seem all too terrible.

Just reloading and cocking it felt awkward because I'm used to the SKS.

If its reasonably accurate to 500m I think its good.
>>
>>28263956
It's a clunky awkward rifle, but I guess since you're used to shooting shit, you like shit.
>>
>>28263737

>>
>>28263961

Well..I'm a poorfag. As much as I like the AR the 308s are way out of my budget right now.
>>
>>28263956
I used a G3 pattern rifle while doing my national service. As it was said before, it works well in the field and is easy to take care of. Was fairly pleasant to shoot, but the only think I had to compare it to back then was a Mosin.
Since then I'd say I would prefer a FAL if I went for a rifle of that era both as a fun boomstick and service rifle.

I bought one and the fucking thing sucked. It wouldn't strip rounds out of any mag and just smashed the fuck out of them (pic related). The front sight was canted, the welded-on rail was crooked, the thing was a fucking mess. It was the PTR91 A3R, Atlantics version.

Good looking gun, it was just a massive turd. Sold it and graduated to a SCAR and have a real battle rifle now.

Other than the stiff as shit in winter spring on the charging handle,it felt pretty natural. Reloading with the push button didn't feel natural however.

For the money, yes. A real HK91 is usually in SCAR-tier pricing these days (and for that money the SCAR is a much better, modern rifle), and they're all at least 20 years old now.

>>28264748

It is definitely manageable. I couldn't even feel it through my heavy parka. If you're a hungry skellington under 150# it might push you around a bit at first, but I think you could master it rather easily.

Not too sure I like Century Firearms.

I had to disassemble a C53. Mismatched rollers, ground down bolt face, shit tier welds, and a barrel trunnion that was more crooked than the UKs teeth.

Not a single part had a serial number that matched either. Bolt was different than carrier etc. And Cabas wanted over 800$ for the worthless pos.

This was supposedly a new firearm from Century. Not used.

The welds were rusted. Crooked barrel tube. Sights canted. The magazine well wouldn't accept any of the mags it came with.

I could go on with this abortion. And I think I will. I hadn't even worked for Cabelas. I asked them what they would take. I told them I'd offer 200$ for it because I'd have to ship it to an HK gunsmith to have it repaired. That C53 was very unsafe to shoot.

After that the Cabelas in Buda TX stopped carrying C53s.

If you aren't confident in Century, then buy a FMP G3S or a real HK91.

Hence why the PTR looks like something I can use and abuse and when funds come I can get the 91. Its why I started the topic so we could discuss it. I figured it'd be a decent entry into an HK platform without breaking the bank too badly(because lets be honest, Century sucks)

Now that PTR has made their paddle standard, they are now the obvious choice for a G3 clone. They just came out with their Gi version with it and the F with the bull barrel is coming soon. It isn't 2005 anymore, PTRs are the best choice.

M1A enthusiasts that pour money into their build will skullfuck you if you touch the upper handguard. It's just not a weapon that's easily or cheaply accurized.

The EBR stocks are frankly unnecessary. Personally I don't think the collapsing stock and rails are enough to warrant the weight.

Battlefield is a range in NV with numerous machineguns. They deal with a ridiculous round count every week, you can read the guy's writeup on weapon maintenance and durability here:
https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/677135_High_round_count_AR_M4_s__over_100_000_rounds__and_how_they_have_handled_on_our_range.html

tldr AR bolts and gas tubes need to be replaced, AK's crack near the rail mount, piston ARs are shit, SCARs are bulletproof.

Interesting reads. Thanks for the lesson on the M1A seems like a pure range queen or safe bitch. Not something I would want in the field.

Scar is out of price range at the moment. But I'll definitely look into one down the road.

I would assume that the AR would out last an AK mostly due to the stampings. However what about the VZ08? Its a solid milled block but then again I imagine it's going to suffer in the long run anyways and die from whatever an SKS dies from at very high round counts.

I'd expect most guns to show problems at those round counts anyway. Its pretty much the entire reason why as much as id love an SVT I probably won't get one.

Are you retarded? She has like no experience with that rifle and she handled it very well on her first run with it. That should give credence the idea that if a lightweight ar toting pansy or a no guns babby wants to handle a hk pattern 308 he should be able to manage. People make it sound like its such an unwieldy large heavy recoiling rifle, newbs probably see themselves like the poor fucks who tested that .577 tyrannosaur round on youtube. Stop scaring the kids.

If you have the option to get a PTR 91 there's no reason not to. Hell if I would've known the glory that is the PTR when I was first getting into scurry asslat gunz I would've passed on my AR completely

Well you seem to like it,what made you like it more than the AR?

The one I rented at a range was pretty good(if a beater and used to shit. Very difficult to get the charging handle open and bolt pulled back). Anything I should know about it?
