Post lever guns. Pic related.
>>
Is the average lever action reliable as a bolt action rifle?

Not typically. But anything is possible.

I love the look and design of leverfuns, on top of the historical relevance.
Sadly I don't own any. So what would be babbu's first Levergun? Something that can be acquired for a decent price, fires a common and manageable round (no 45), etc?
Shotguns are alright too as long as they're not in some nonsense bore size

I've heard good things about the Rossi M92, and it's available in .357/.38.

Its not really inherently less reliable (like say revolver vs semi auto) since they're both manual actions with bolts moving forward and backward.

I always thought about buying two exact lever rifles, one in .22lr and one is a proper caliber.

Spend money on boxes of cheap .22 and get good enough to shoot from the hip like the rifle man, then switch to the real rifle and blast away like a pro.

Would this work as well as I hope I wonder? also what would be the best rifle? I was thinking of something Marlin or Henry

I'm talking about sight and target acquisition.

From 30 yards away pointing and .357 and a .22 will have the same results accuracy wise.

Obviously followup shots will have to be adjusted between rifles.

I would think that's a little trick with a lever gun as far as consistency would go. Wish I would have tried it when I still had my 1894 AND 39A

Do leverguns come in any other suitable hunting caliber other than 45-70? Small game stuff. Something that could take down a large bird or a rabbit at 100-300m and leave something to eat.
I have a serious boner over these things and i'd love to get one suitable for hunting as well. t.yuropoor

do you even shoot?

take your pick friendo, levers come in many pistol and rifle calibers.though hunting rabbits at 300 yards is an interesting proposition. Especially with fuddy-five sebbunity

That isn't a realistic expectation, as those are really small animals to be shooting at that range. Any flatter shooting caliber will do a significant amount of damage and any caliber that won't do a significant amount of damage will be very hard to hit the target with. .357 magnum, .44 magnum, and .30-30 will both work for hunting other things though, and .22 lr and .22 magnum for hunting rabbits at shorter distances than 100+ yards.
