I was told you should never bring the slide back with the front of the slide, because it gets hot.
Why do some guns have serrations on the front of the slide then?
I've done it before with my 92fs after shooting about 300 rounds. It was kind of hot, but I was wearing gloves, so it wasn't really much of an issue. and grabbing the back of the slide feels kind of awkward with how it's designed, atleast for me.

Ostensibly for press checks.

Trade in your 92fs for a 92g and grind the levers level with the slide, or toss $40 to wilson for their low profile decocker.

You now have a 92 with no issues manipulating the slide from the rear.

what? it has nothing to do with the decocker. It's just how the slide is designed.

Pretty sure he's talking about grabbing the slide at the very font, where the curved sections is. Feels really racking a 92 like that

Removing the safety/decocker from the equation makes the 92 series a lot more friendly to traditional slide manipulation.

I'm talking about grabbing the slide where the front serrations are.

my problem has nothing to do with the safety/decocker. It's just the lack of area to grab compared to other guns, like a 1911 for example. The sort of bell shape of the slide makes it where there's not that big of a surface to grab.

becuz fudds who think they're smarter than JMB wanted to "improve" the design.

Yes, forward serrations on a slide are for doing press checks, to make sure the pistol is loaded, Before shooting.
As for racking the slide, Police teach the hand over technique, due to the loss of fine motor skills in combat.
