good first gun?
>>
is that the 870?
>>

yessir
>>
>>28065387
Yup. They're a damn good firearm. But you should also get a .22lr rifle. They're great for target practice.
>>
>>28065387
shotguns are only good if you have a place to use em at

if all you have access to is your standard indoor firing range they are really fucking boring and painful
>>
>>28065451
Even if so. It's a great first firearm and by the time it gets boring he will have decided if he wants another gun or not.
>>
I heard on this board that the new 870s have had a lot of quality control issues is this true?
>>
>>28065387
I'd steer clear of newer Remington stuff but if you can find a pre Cerberus 870 go for it. Only thing about the 870 that's bad is the rivited on ejector. If that gets fucked you either have to find a demilled receiver chunk with it and have a smith replace it or buy a new 870.
>>
>>28065462
Plus they are very jack of all trades, but as all jacks of all trades masters of none.

It's a solid well made firearm for a fair price it lets you defend your home well enough, get birds well enough, get deer well enough, keep pests away well enough. I suggest getting one that eats 3".
>>
>>28065492
How can I tell if it's pre-Cerberus, and where can I find one? I assume the large retailers will only stock the new ones.
>>
>>28065476
yes
modern Remington tend to rust and are rough compared to pre 2007 guns
some have unfinished chambers making shells hard to extract

most of the issues are correctable but its unacceptable that rem lets em leave the factory in that condition

Once the addiction starts it never stops.

Don't get me wrong the newer production stuff is decent but the quality is a former shadow of what it once was. The finish on newer stuff has that habit of surface rusting easily. Your best bet on finding a pre cerb is to get a wingmaster or a police trade in. Shouldn't be too hard to find one in local shops or gun shows.
>>
>>28065387
My first rifle and a rifle I thing anyone getting into firearms should get first.
>>
>>28065775
bit pricey innit?
>>
>>28065775
Ammo and a cleaning kit.
>>
>>28065795
There are tons of surplus rifles in the commonwealth countries so price is quite low compared to modern full size cartridge guns.
Still not mosin cheap mind you.
>>
>>28065775
2 hard 2 find bullets for that masterpiece, go with a mosin

A serbian company makes .303 quite cheap, I asked my local to import some boxes and every since then have had no issues with ammo supply.

it's non-corrosive and modern made too, unlike the spam cans we all know and love.

Again, costs more than spam can ammo but not by much.

Just bought a chilean Mauser for my first gun today, pretty excited

Finally hasguns and it feels good
>>
>>28065387
I bought one for dove hunting. It works. It shoots. It can hit things you point at. And it's cheap.
>>
One that goes bang

OP has bitchtits.

Explain?
>>
>>28065413
Got ammo?
For a new shooter, consider a 9mm carbine instead of a .22
>>
>>28067270
He's just a little fat fuck.
>>
I was thinking of just getting a 9mm pistol for my first gun.
>>
>>28067326
no
stop
22 is widespread and only increasing in availability
last gunshow I went to the 22 kikes (all mobility scooter-tier women) didn't sell a single brick of their overpriced marked up shit
>>28065387
Ruger 10/22, not a takedown
threads are unnecessary, but if you want to spend an extra $100 a model 11121 will work
Go to a local range at least four times and go through at least 1000 rounds modifying.

In general you start with a barebones platform and add only what you need to address legitimate shortcomings. Whenever you add something, reevaluate everything you have added.

When you do go to modify, you'll probably want a weaver rail, an POS tasco 3-9x40, el cheapo scope rings, and a cheap bipod. All told it should run you about $100 shipped.

Not in the dominion of Canada Mein Fruende
>Canadian Tire sells .303
>>
Savage .17hmr would be a good first gun. Like a .22 but way more fun

I've been wanting to get a 10/22 as my first gun. I've also heard Appleseed events are a good place to get training.

There's this gunsmith who's selling 10/22s with all the stuff recommended by Appleseed. See pic

Is this a fair deal?
