Glock 42 problem

I was just gifted a Glock 42 and the slide lock is almost impossibly difficult to release.
I can barely get it to release with both thumbs and it's nearly impossible to sling shot.
Some forums say it can be due to not having a cartridge in the magazine, but I can't test this because I haven't purchased any 380 ammo yet, and didn't feel like making a special trip.
I've never had this problem with any of my other Glocks or handguns.
Do these guns just have a rough break in period or do I need to purchase an after market slide release?

Glock Armorer here. Sounds like someone put it back together wrong. Find a Glock certified armorer. It should not be that hard.

I don't really understand this point. Like, when the slide is locked back you cannot physically pull the slide back any further to release the slidelock?

This is completely different than how the G19 and G26 slide racks though. You can freely slide those without a cartilage in the magazine.

if you have an empty mag inserted in a semiauto, the follower should push against the slidestop and prevent the slide from closing until you drop the magazine or you physically pull the slidestop down.

When I bought my 42 it was impossible to get back together. The guide rod has a piece of metal on it that was slightly bent. Called Glock and they sent me new parts no questions asked.
I just give them a call.
